Chapter 16

Seemingly what happened earlier at the bus top was posted on media.

"Put Director Clover on call," Bryant said, trying to sound calm.

Knowing what Bryant was about to do, Peter thought of persuading him. "I don't think it is in the hands of Director Clover and it wouldn't be a good idea if you do this, Sir. There is a huge amount of money invested in this movie and the upper hands would be upset if you decline this." His lips pursed.

Peter raised a gaze at the back figure of the young man before saying again. "It would cause a great loss and they believed you are the one that would make this a big hit. But if you insisted and if Sir Smith happened to know this. It will only cause a big problem."

Bryant turned his head slowly over his shoulder and his cold and deadly eyes met with Peter's.

Peter almost trembled in his spot but he held his ground and thought not to get frightened leave the young man. He should be used to this already but he noticed his heart always trembled at every little narcissistic thought.

With furrowed eyebrows, Bryant said softly. "You talk a lot." He clicked his tongue in regret. "Why did I hire you as my secretary in the first place when you are not helpful to me in any way instead you make things seem difficult for me?"

Peter bowed apologetically. "I'm sorry Sir. I will try to be helpful to me if there is a way to be helpful."

Upon hearing Peter's last sentence, Bryant felt more upset and the slight headache earlier worsened as a soft snort escaped his nostril and his eyebrows creased tightly.

Bryant doesn't know what to do with Peter and why was he keeping the young man who stood behind him like a sloth?

When Peter noticed a burst on the corner of Bryant's thin lips, he became anxious and curious at the same time as his voice trembled. "W-what happened to your lips? Did you get yourself beaten up again?"

Bryant heaved out a frustrated sigh as he gestured a dismissive wave in the air. "Get lost." Bryant said wearily.

"What?" Peter muttered as if he misheard Bryant.

"Get lost."

"Yes Sir." Peter bowed slightly.

Peter knew Bryant wasn't ready to say anything about his bursting lips since he always had this face in the past years. He adjusted his eyeglasses first before vacating the office alone to Bryant.

Bryant Smith a thirty-years old young man and the president of Smithfield Estate Ltd company he operates in. However, there was still another career behind his business mind and he never wanted it since it deprived him of privacy and freedom.

Bryant was also a workaholic young man and he loves the life that way. Something to keep him busy always and not fame without freedom and privacy, he doesn't want that.

Is it worth sacrificing your freedom and privacy to people who claim to be your fans but it is only a few who appreciate it?

......

At the other wall, in the kitchen of the restaurant. Kaylee didn't take a break from murmuring to herself.

"What did he think of himself? How could he be this cold? He should at least lend some help, right? What a heartless person." Kaylee lamented softly to herself while washing the dishes angrily.

Whenever she thinks about the incident some hours ago at the bus stop, she feels the blood in her veins boiling.

Reminiscing the unblemished handsome face of the young man, a scoff escaped Kaylee's lips.

"He is not even handsome nor a gentleman, I wonder what those young ladies saw in his ugly face for them to go crazy. He just looks like a dog's poop." Kaylee cursed as she was fuming inwardly.

Within her, she knew the young man was damn handsome and her eyes hadn't fallen on such a handsome young man like that before but she wouldn't admit that.

Kaylee broke out of her dazedness when she heard the soft familiar voice. She looked up and blinked blankly at Mary.

"What are you mumbling about?" Mary questioned.

Kaylee chuckled softly before answering. "Nothing."

Mary didn't buy her words. Seemingly, Mary just arrived some seconds ago and heard Kaylee lamenting angrily to herself.

She leaned closer to Kaylee. "Really? I noticed you complaining and cursing to yourself alone. Did anyone offend you?"

Kaylee tilted her head a bit. "Actually...something happened earlier." Her lips pursed.

She found it difficult to open up about the incident that happened earlier as she felt embarrassed about it and since she wasn't close to Mary. However, to be free from these things troubling her she had to say it out.

"You know right? In a romance movie or story, when a young lady strips, the young man close by was supposed to catch the young lady in his arms."

"Yes," Mary answered with a nod in agreement and somewhat puzzled.

"But it was the other way round. Could you imagine that this young man saw the lady falling towards him but he let her fall to the ground? How could he?" Kaylee said trying to keep her upsetting mind calm so as not to leak in her voice.

Mary raised an eyebrow, trying to comprehend what Kaylee narrated to her and finally, she understood Kaylee.

Mary tilted her head a little while asking carefully. "You mean, you were about to fall and you were falling against a young man in the street but he didn't save you instead he let you fall to the ground right?"

"Yes, that was it," Kaylee answered with a nod subconsciously.

It was a second later that Kaylee realized that she had finally admitted to being the young lady. She blinked blankly and denied it again. "No, I'm not the one. I happened to watch what happened between them. So tell me, what do you think of that young man?"

Mary squinted her eyes a little in a brief thought, trying to gather the best description of the young man like Kaylee narrated.

"Uhh.. things like that only happen in movies and they merely happened in reality. As for what I think about the young man, I think he might be scared of women or probably he is a narcissist."

Kaylee hurriedly nodded. "Bingo. That's the right word, a narcissist." A slight frown settled on her face again.

"By the way, why are you so upset about it when you are not the lady?" Mary questioned skeptically.

It seemed she was caught on her lies, yet Kaylee denied it again. "The scene was upsetting." She shrugged.

"What a pitiful lady," Mary muttered.

"Do you think she is pitiful?" Kaylee questioned, playing along.

Mary nodded. "Uhm. I think she is not pretty enough for him to let her into his arms. She must be ugly or something might be wrong with her appearance. No guy would let an ugly and unappealing girl close to them rather than let them in their arms." Mary shook her head pitifully.

When Kaylee heard Mary, her jaw couldn't help but drop down instantly in disbelief and emotionally hurt a little.

"How could you say she is ugly?" She frowned. " You haven't seen her before! Moreover, you can't just judge the young lady like that. It was the young man whose ugly."

Mary seemed to be on a shift and decided to meet Kaylee but she ended up being a little confused about the young lady's narration.

Mary couldn't understand why Kaylee was getting upset on someone else behalf, although she shrugged over it before the burning furnace would reached her.

It took a short time for the startled and stunned expression on Mary's face to straighten.

Mary chuckled slightly in humor. "I think I have to leave right now. My shift is over now."

Kaylee knew she had gone far with this to Mary as if she was the one who let her fall. Realizing, Mary wanted to leave soon because of her, Kaylee couldn't help but put on a lovely smile.

When Mary left the kitchen, Kaylee took a deep breath to get rid of the incident that happened in the morning and tried to forget about the narcissist young man as well.
