Chapter 3: The Room Incident

After checking in we walked through the glass double door. We were greeted by a large courtyard. The path was much finer than the one out at the entrance. Smaller stones and smaller wood chips.

In the center of the courtyard sat a large fountain. It reached up at least ten meters and it propelled a jet of water that streamed down the platforms on the water pipe.

The fountain base was shaped like a large circle with small concrete walls at the edge. The fountain's diameter I'd say was around twenty meters.

Around the outside of the concrete wall was a bush that ran around the whole fountain. It was green and lively.

I looked around to understand the surroundings better. Besides the building we just exited, there were seven others. All unique in color and shape.

''Alright guys, the hotel is the orange building which should be…..'' He trailed off trying to figure out where it is. Typical Richard.

I tug at his rose-colored shirt trying to show him that the orange building was to our left.

Yet Richard paid no mind to me. His finger slowly from left to right. We waited around two minutes before he slumped his shoulders and gave up.

Oh shut. I completely forgot that he is color blind. He seemed so sad. I placed my left hand on his back to try to comfort him as a mother comforts her child.

''Sorry, Jakob.'' Spoke Richard in a small voice.

''It's fine big guy.'' I said in a soft voice.

I lead the pack of four tired teens to the hotel to our left. The girls run to the elevator, it's surprising they still have energy after today. I don't understand women, that's probably why I am single.

Richard and Michael quickly headed to the second elevator. As they entered, the football chat from earlier continued with more passion than ever.

I guess it's just me and the stairs. Stairs and me. Sounds like a 90's song that I wouldn't know. Well better start walking if I want to get to my room.

The stairs were to the right of the elevator. They were carpeted with the same scarlet carpet as the main lobby. The lights on the walls were fancy looking and placed pretty close together. They did not light the area too well.

The texture felt brand new under my foot. There were about 13 steps in between each floor. I forgot how many floors there were total but I need to get to floor seven. Might as well walk since I don't get too much exercise.

Each step was getting heavier and heavier. The muffled sound of my foot rubbing off the carpet slowly disappeared into nothingness.

Soon the only sounds that could be heard were my breathing and the shuffling of my clothes. No, wait. There was another. A familiar sound coming from far behind me. It was like the dripping sound of the water hitting the carpet.

The atmosphere changed dramatically, it got cold. Really cold. The drip-drop got closer and closer. My feet were stuck in place and my knees were trembling. Am I going to die here?

Fight or flight kicked in, my instincts have gone haywire therefore I will need to make a decision. Fight whatever is chasing me or run away and try to get to my room.

The dripping noise was just around the corner but thankfully my mind had been made up. A jolt ran through my body which was enough to get me sprinting up the stairs. Step by step, stair by stair. It felt like it went on forever. One, two, three, one, two, three.

Only two more floors remained. Two more floors to my safety. But no matter how fast I ran, the dripping didn't stop. It echoed right behind me. It haunted me, it ringed in my ears and bounced off the walls.

The lights were flickering and the wallpaper on the walls started to rot. The stair changed color from their bright scarlet to a deep purple.

What is that thing? Why is it doing this? It can't do this. How can it go against the laws of nature?

Questions flooded my mind but if I lost focus my legs would freeze up and I would be caught. Caught like a rat in a room full of poison.

Just one more floor. The carpet was just disappearing like a rose going through abscission.

The wood concrete below the carpet was cracking below my feet. It could collapse at any moment.

But none of that matters now, I have reached the floor of my room. The number for the room is 704 which means it is relatively close to the top of the stairs.

All I need to do is just to get in there and lock the door. Everything will be ok.

I set my foot upon the floor of safety. The corridor's seemed to stretch endlessly with doors that were all closed. I swiftly ran to the left where my room was located and scrambled for my key.

Thankfully I hadn't dropped it on my way up. That would have resulted in my death or something of the sort. I pulled it out and unlocked the door on the first try.

Right as I enter the room I spot something running at high velocity from my left. It was a deformed humanoid looking individual. His eyes were gouged out and blood was streaming down his face.

All the blood in my head just rushed to my feet. Fear had completely taken over me. I felt like I was truly about to die.

I step inside and lock the door. I push the little bedside cabinet against the thick wooden door. I further pushed the drawer which was facing the bed against the drawer. Now my life depended all on those two pieces of furniture.

Loud footsteps got closer and closer. Each step like a bulldozer. As they neared they stopped for about five minutes.

''Thank the fucking lord it stopped,'' I say to myself.

But not even a second passes before loud banging could be heard from behind the door. If it was a little bit stronger it could break the door right out of its hinges.

The banging continued for about fifteen minutes. Bang, bang, bang. One, two, three, one, two, three. Over and over and over. Just bang, bang, bang. I could feel myself slowly losing it. If it wouldn't stop something could happen to me.

Out of nowhere, the banging stopped. Loud laughter echoed from beyond the door. The loud bulldozer like footsteps reemerged and ran off in the other direction.

I seemed to be safe. For now.
