80 Finding Her

Racing through the darkness under the redwoods, heart thundering in my chest, all I'm focused on is finding Vanessa. If I find her, I know I can protect her. But until that moment, I can't be sure what will happen. 

I don't know how many of them there are who came after her or who they even are exactly. Based on the note Matvey received, I'm guessing cartel, but there are so many possible enemies at this point, it's hard to say. Every second she's out here is a risk.

This was so stupid of me. I shouldn't have left her. I should have told Matvey to go fuck himself with the damn contract. Club Redwood can burn for all I care. The place is a nightmare.

When I finally track down the shrill ringing of my phone, the instant flood of relief is short-lived. It's not with Vanessa. It's on the ground. My first thought is that someone grabbed her once it started ringing, and she dropped it, and the thought makes my heart plummet.
