71 Chapter 70: Xavier Lockhart's Wife

After entering the car, Joseph Lockhart then coldly said, "Relax. I won't stoop so low and kidnap you. I won't stoop to that level."

Then, the car sped off to their destination.

"Well, I'm glad that the Lockhart family still keeps their morals."

"You!" Joseph Lockhart was fuming upon hearing her remarks.

The atmosphere inside the car got tensed but Zarah was not fazed by it.

"Oftentimes, rich families have the poorest morals in the world. All they cared about are their interests and don't care about what is morally and ethically accepted. Am I right, Mr. Lockhart?"

Joseph Lockhart could not refute this as it was the truth.

"Don't worry, Miss Jansen. Our family will not go behind the backs of our enemies. We fight them straight on."

"Are you implying that I'm the enemy of the Lockhart family now?"

"I didn't say that," he did not deny nor confirm it.

"You didn't deny it either." Zarah heaved a sigh.

"I've entered your car to know what you wanted to talk about. You may say it to me right away. You don't have to delay."

Faced by her straightforwardness, Joseph Lockhart gave Zarah a second look.

Zarah wanted to make things clear right away. She was no push-over.

"Well then. Since Miss Jansen said so, I want you to leave Xavier. Just name your price. The Lockhart family will not hesitate to give it to you."

After hearing the same demands the second time, Zarah could not hide her disappointment.

She shook her head in disapproval and said, "I do think you can do better than this, Mr. Lockhart."

"What do you mean?" he asked with a frown.

"You see. It's Xavier who came to me. It's not the other way around. I did not seduce him. It's safe to say that he seduced me instead."

Zarah thought that she would apologize later on to Xavier for using his name like this.

She shifted her sitting position and continued, "I love Xavier and I do not care about what he has on his name. Leaving him would break his heart. I do not like to inflict pain between us just because your family disapproves of us. I believe that my husband and I are capable enough to support ourselves without the Lockhart family's support."

"What did you say?"

As expected, Joseph Lockhart caught on pretty quickly.

"You heard it right, Mr. Lockhart. Or shall I say, Uncle Joseph?"

"Imbecile!" Joseph Lockhart raised his hand and was about to hit Zarah when she said, "For the sake of my husband's feelings, I do not want to be disrespectful to you. However, do not think that I will also let you physically abuse or bully me, Mr. Lockhart."

Zarah said and threw his hand off harshly in the air.

She was not afraid of what this man would do to her. She would fight him back.

"One more thing, Mr. Lockhart. This is not Sterlington City. So, I'll expect you to behave," she gently reminded him.

Upon hearing what she said, Joseph Lockhart's gaze turned cold.

"Are you threatening me?"

"I dare not, Mr. Lockhart. Even Xavier was very careful to not attract attention when he arrives," Zarah denied and continued reminding him.

Zarah was well-aware of what was happening around her especially those that she cared about the most. And so, she should not be underestimated. She might look fragile on the outside but she had a strong build inside.

Joseph Lockhart had just fallen to her deceiving facade. Yes, she resembled a beautiful flower but her variety was the wild one. Pretty yet lethal.

Joseph Lockhart looked at Zarah the third time again.

"Who the hell are you?!"

Zarah smiled meaningfully and then shamelessly announced, "I am Xavier Lockhart's legal wife, Zarah Lockhart."

Zarah didn't know where this sudden surge of confidence came from. Nevertheless, she liked it.

"Stop the car!" Joseph Lockhart roared which caused his driver to step on the brakes immediately.

The cars behind them blared their horns as they almost cause a road accident.

"Hey! Are you out of your mind?!"

"What the actual f*ck is wrong with you!"

The drivers yelled at them.

The driver started the car again and looked for a safer place to pull over.

The car came to a stop and Zarah did not waste time and got out of the car.

"Thank you for the ride, Mr. Lockhart," Zarah said before shutting the car door.

"Are you okay, Master Joseph?"

"Let's go to that brat's office!"

"Right away, Master Joseph."

Joseph snorted in disapproval after he gave everything that had happened a thought.

Now that these two got married behind their back, it was already too late for them to separate.

The Lockhart family looked at marriage as a sacred ceremony and it should not be broken. The topic of divorce was taboo for them.

He thought that he should inform the Chairman about this matter.

This development caused him a great headache. He closed his eyes and pinched the space between his brows.

Meanwhile, Zarah did not mind what Joseph Lockhart would think of her after this conversation.

She looked around her and thought that she was not far from the company and so she decided to walk back.

However, she did not expect to bump into someone she did not want to meet along the way.

A car pulled over beside her and the driver rolled down the car window to reveal herself.

"Can we talk?"

Natalie said in a still arrogant tone. However, at first glance, she seemed to be in a stressful situation based on the eyebags around her eyes.

"I'm busy, Miss Stevens," Zarah declined her invitation immediately.

"Zarah Jansen! Get in the car while I'm still being nice!" Natalie angrily told her.

"I am not aware that this is now the definition of being nice, Miss Stevens. Stop wasting my time. I'm going to be late."

Zarah was about to turn around and leave when she saw the car door open and shut behind her.

"It will be quick."

Zarah frowned upon seeing this side of Natalie.

'What's wrong with her?', she asked herself.

"Okay. Follow me."

There was no way that she would let Natalie dictate the place. She was already aware of Natalie's bullying tendency.

"Lead the way. I'll follow you behind." Natalie said and entered the car. She slowly drove the car and followed Zarah

Zarah entered a popular coffee shop near the SG company building.

She was greeted by the staff and she went to the counter to take her order.

She saw Natalie following behind her.

"What do you want to have?"

"No thanks," Natalie said and looked for a vacant table to sit at.

This coffee shop was famous and so it was buzzing with patrons.

After taking and paying for her order, she grabbed her hot expresso and went to where Natalie was sitting.

As she sat down, Zarah spoke first, "What do you want to talk about?"

"I'm pregnant." Zarah raised her brows after hearing this news.

She was not that surprised as it was inevitable.

"I do not know why you're telling me this, Miss Stevens." Zarah sighed deeply.

She had no idea why Natalie would tell her that she was pregnant when this was none of her concern.

"Do you want me to congratulate you? Congratulations!" Zarah said calmly while she tried to drink her coffee.

"Josh does not want the baby."

Bang!

Zarah was surprised to hear this. However, this should be not her problem. The matter should be between them. They did not ask her for help when they made this baby.

And then now, she was suddenly telling her about this? What could she possibly do?

"Miss Stevens, I think this should be none of my concern," Zarah said passively.

What she said angered Natalie.

"How is it not related to you when you're the reason why he does not want this baby?!"

As she thought that this woman was pregnant, she knew that stress should be avoided or it would not be good for the baby.

"Calm down. I don't want to be blamed should something bad happen to you here."

Zarah looked at Natalie's haggard face and she finally understood what caused this.

She heaved a sigh of relief when Natalie listened to her.

"You must be laughing now, right? Josh hates me and the baby. You should be happy that I'm in this state."

Zarah chuckled as she thought of what Natalie said. She then decided to correct her thoughts, "Miss Stevens, I am not someone who would laugh at other's misfortunes. I'm not like that."

She sipped her coffee and continued, "As I have mentioned, this should be not my concern. What is your purpose for approaching me then? Josh and I are over. I have given her back to you."

"You didn't! He's no longer the Josh who loved me before!"

Natalie blamed Zarah for the great change that happened to Josh. However, Zarah's question hit her.

Why did she look for Zarah? Perhaps because she was pushed to the edge as of the moment. She was pushed into a desperate position.

"Miss Stevens, what are you implying? That I made him hate you? That I steal his love for you? When I dated Josh, he was broken because of what you've done. I helped him pick up the shards and put them back with my love. I thought the time that we dated was enough to fix him. But it wasn't enough. He instead changed me to be like you. So don't you dare point your fingers at me. It's your fault why he's like that."

Zarah thought that perhaps Josh had regretted what he had done. He did not cherish her while she was around. And now that she was gone, it was then that he realized her worth in his life.

There was no use in crying over spilled milk. She no longer loves Josh. And besides, she's a married woman now.

"Go and talk to him. Should he not want the child, though I'm not yet a mother, I think you should keep the baby. The baby's innocent."

She should be indifferent regarding this matter. However, now that an innocent life was involved, her opinion changed. She thought the child should be given the choice to live since it was already there.

She also didn't want this baby to be like her.

She could tell that Natalie wanted to keep the baby or else she would not be desperate to talk to her. Should she be forced into the same situation, she would keep the baby and let go of the father.

Many single mothers were able to survive this ordeal and managed to raise their child/ren well. So, why could she not do the same thing?

Natalie on the other hand wanted to keep the baby. However, her grandmother did not want her to keep the baby.

She was also against the idea of having Josh as their grandson-in-law. Nevertheless, they still thought that the Irving family's status was inferior to their family.

Old Madam Holland, the matriarch of the family wanted her granddaughter to go back to New Lagoon City and marry the man she had chosen for her granddaughter.

Should she insist on keeping the baby, she would be removed from her grandmother's will.

This was the first time that Zarah saw her in this state.

And for some reason, she felt sympathy for her. She did pray for karma to hit the couple. However, she never imagined it to be this way.

"If you're afraid that I will steal Josh from you, don't fret as it will never happen."

She then flexed the wedding ring on her finger to Natalie.

"You're married?"

Natalie found the news very surprising. However, she thought that Zarah was making this up. She thought that it was impossible. It was only more than a month since they broke up and she didn't hear that she was dating someone else.

"Nice try, Zarah," Natalie said in disdain.

Zarah chuckled after she saw Natalie's reaction. She could tell that the latter did not believe her.

"Are you expecting me to drown myself in despair after the breakup and not move on?"

"I'm lucky to find the man who knew my worth and loves me the most. Now, if you'll excuse me. My husband's waiting."

Natalie's face turned cold as she watched Zarah's leaving back.

She indeed did not expect this sudden turn of events.

However, she heaved a sigh of relief after being reassured that Josh and Zarah no longer had the chance to get back together.

If she could not have Josh, then no one else could. However, she became curious about Zarah's husband.

Zarah chuckled as she thought that Natalie should be calling her "Auntie" now that she was married to Xavier.
