Chapter 34: Tyrant Xavier

Xavier get in his car and did not wait for either Chris or Rupert to drive the car for him.

He was very worried for Zarah. 'How could she be so foolish to not see that it was a trap?'

*vroom!* The sound of the engine made as he hit the pedal of his Lamborghini hard.

He grabbed his phone and called the Police Commissioner.

"If you can't do your job properly, I will no longer give my support to you Commissioner Wagner."

The man on the other line was in his thirties. Nevertheless, he became the youngest police commissioner appointed in the country.

However, many had opposed his appointments because they believed he lacked experience.

He needed someone who would back him up to stabilize his position and Xavier was willing to lend a hand.

He accepted Xavier's proposal even though he knew who Xavier was. His reputation would be in danger if others would find out that Xavier once belonged to an international criminal group and had established his group.

He knew that Xavier was a dangerous man yet he needed his help.

Faced with his anger, he had to pacify this man while his assistant was trying to find the reason on the sideline.

"Wait, Master! Could you please tell me what happened?" He said as he tried to calm him down.

"Your underlings are courting death, Jackson. Do you want me to tell you what they've done?" Xavier fiercely said.

Xavier meant business.

"If you cannot control them from being astray, at least keep them in check!" He added furiously.

"Got it, Master. I'll go to the station to reprimand them."

"Reprimand? Do you think I'll be happy with it?" Xavier coldly said.

Commissioner Wagner's handsome face turned pale while he was fiercely cursing the people involved in this mess inside his heart for angering this devil incarnate.

He once witnessed Xavier's coldness and lust for blood. He did not want to be one of the unlucky people to experience it. If Xavier was not the devil incarnate, then, who was he?

"Okay, Master. I'll put them under suspension while they're under investigation." He said hoping that this could calm him down.

This was the least that he could do. He had to follow the protocol to not jeopardize his position.

"Is that the best that you can do?" Xavier asked while holding back his anger.

"Yes, Master."

"Then, what took you so long to do it? Jackson, let me warn you, should they touch even a single hair of hers, you better prepare for a cover-up report."

Xavier won't back down.

"Yes, Master!"

Commissioner Wagner and his secretary printed and released the suspension order as soon as possible.

He would also personally deliver the letter to them together with his officers to execute the order.

Meanwhile, Zarah was brought inside the detention cell. These sc*mbags had no intention to let her see Detective McGuire which pissed her off.

She patiently waited inside and waited on their next actions.

However, she wondered what was delaying them. She was excited about what they were going to do with her.

Call her a creep but the thought alone gave her chills.

She had no idea that the police station was in a mess after they received the email from the office of the commissioner.

Zarah waited for ten minutes before the detention officer opened the cell for her.

"Today's your lucky day, Miss."

"Are you with Zed?" She asked him.

"No, I'm not with him but I'm working with someone else." The detention officer answered which made Zarah curious.

"Then, do you know where Zed is now?" She asked him.

"Detective McGuire and the two other colleagues are being rescued as we speak."

He then led her to the hallway and she became curious when the officers were looking at her weirdly.

Just then, Commissioner Wagner showed up in front of them. The next second, he kneeled on the ground, and elegantly spoke which shocked everyone.

"I'm very sorry for what my people had done to you, Miss. It's I who failed to discipline them. Please forgive me." Zarah thought that she didn't recognize this person therefore his gesture was unnecessary.

If he was the one who released her, then, she should thank him, right?

"May I know who you are?"

"You can call me Jackson, Miss." He softly spoke which shocked everyone. He never let anyone call him by his first name.

Then, they turned pale as they thought of something. They had illegally detained the woman that the Commissioner fancied.

Wait, what?

As soon as Zarah was saved, Nikolai received a call from the Station Chief.

"What?!"

He thought that he now had her cornered. 'Since when did she know the commissioner?' He asked him.

"Should I answer your question, Mr. Stevens?" He asked him back and this angered Nikolai even more.

Nikolai was furious! He could not accept the fact that Zarah dodged it.

"This will be my last cooperation with you, Mr. Stevens. I am included in the investigation, too." The Chief told him.

"That's none of my business, idiot!" Nikolai then ended the call in frustration.

Commissioner Wagner then escorted Zarah into the parking lot.

"You're not going to abduct me, are you?" She asked as she honestly did not trust him even if she knew who he was.

Commissioner Wagner on the other hand shook his head as he finally understood why Xavier would threaten him like that. Aside from her beautiful face, her reactions were quite cute.

If she was available, he would surely sign up as one of her suitors and take a chance for her heart.

"No, I'm not going to abduct, you. I feared that before I could even think about it, I have already lost my head." He said and Zarah was speechless because of how serious and scared he was.

Who would do such a thing to him?

Who dared to threaten the commissioner?

Her questions were answered after she saw Rupert standing beside the familiar black Bentley.

She turned her head and asked him, "Did Xavier send you to free me?"

"Yes." Commissioner Wagner nodded his head and Zarah was surprised to learn the truth.

"Why?"

"I'm afraid only Master can answer you that, Miss. Anyways, I'll take my leave as I still have other matters to settle." He said and politely excused himself and his secretary approached him.

He entered his car before Zarah did.

"Should we go back to the office, Sir?"

He gave Zarah one final glance before he answered, "Yes."

Rupert then approached Zarah and greeted her, "Good evening, Zarah. Master's waiting inside. Let me warn you, he's not in a good mood."

"Thank you, Rupert."

Rupert then opened the door and Zarah got inside the back.

Well, she regretted instantly as Xavier was sitting in the back and he was gloomy.

However, Zarah's attention was caught by the cast on his arm, and she immediately got worried.

"What happened to your arm?"

Just then, Rupert also entered the car and told her what happened.

"Master was overseeing in the street when he bumped into a post." He said. It was pretty hilarious.

"Then, how was the post?" She asked Rupert while secretly glancing at Xavier.

"The post fell. Good thing the car was remodeled according to Master's safety that he only got that injury."

Did that actually happen? Part of it was the truth.

Rupert wanted to tell Zarah more but Xavier's sharp glares from the back stopped him.

"You seem to love telling my misfortune to others, Rupert. Do you still value your life?" Faced with Xavier's ruthless question, he could only gulp and blame his mouth for spouting nonsense.

"Please forgive me, Master. I'll not do it again." He said in fear.

Zarah felt that she should pacify the situation and so she grabbed his uninjured hand and squeezed them.

She didn't know why she did it, though.

Though Xavier was surprised, he decided to not show it to his face.

He wanted to teach Zarah a lesson.

"If you're doing that so I will let you off, just drop it." He said coldly but Zarah was no longer intimidated by this side of him.

"No. I just want to thank you for what you've done today."

"Don't be so full of yourself!" He clicked his tongue and continued, "I'm doing this because of my father. Do you want him to die in worry?"

Zarah was stunned to hear his excuse.

She should be glad that Xavier was doing his part of the deal. But why did she feel sad?

'Did you think that he will come to save you for another reason?' Zarah asked herself and she was saddened as she could not find any answer other than for Isaiah.

She let go of his hand and tucked it on the side.

"Of course," Zarah said and she tried to make a smile, "I understand. I'll go and apologize to Old Man."

She thought that her reckless action had reached Isaiah and made him worry.

She had to go home to check on Isaiah first before checking Detective McGuire at the hospital.

"He's fine. I made sure that no one tells him about this so he won't worry."

"Okay. Then, can I go to where Zed and his companions are?"

She also thought that Xavier should at least stay at the hospital after being in a car accident.

Though Xavier hated this, he still allowed her to see them.

He would rather make her calm her worries now. He didn't want her to have another sleepless night.

"Okay. But first, let's eat," he said, and like on cue, Zarah's stomach growled in hunger and she shyly agreed.

Rupert finally knew where they were heading and so he started the car and sped off.

While they were on the road, Xavier finally calmed down.

He suddenly pulled her closer and gave her a tight hug which surprised Zarah. Zarah wanted to push him away but he tightened the hug to the point that she was almost suffocating.

She then recalled his injury and so she decided to not struggle as she did not want him to get hurt.

"Don't do it again. I don't know what I'll do if something had happened to you." He said and Zarah could feel the genuine worry he had for her.

The message sent warmth all over her body and she wanted to hug him back.

Zarah's eyes widened as she was surprised by how her body reacted.

After hearing no response from her, Xavier repeated, "Don't do it again, okay?"

Zarah heaved a huge sigh before she answered, "I promise to not do it again but you have to release me first. You're suffocating me."

She meant it literally as she almost could not breathe.

Xavier realized what he did and so he let go of her immediately and uttered an apology.

Zarah accepted it and she also apologized for making everyone worry.

They finally pulled over in front of the restaurant where they had that takeout last time.

She thought that their food was delicious and so she thought she could have a good dinner.

After they were done, they left the restaurant and went to St. George Hospital.

Zarah learned that Detective McGuire sustained serious injuries and was still in the operating room as the receptionist told her.

"What did they do to him?"

Just then, Detective McGuire's wife arrived at the hospital to see her husband.

She was five months pregnant and was crying when she arrived.

Zarah was surprised as he never shared this with her. She had no idea that he was a family man and had a pregnant wife.

Zarah felt guilty. She wanted to approach her but Xavier grabbed her arm and shook his head.

She didn't come alone. She had a female companion. He feared that approaching them and letting them know their connection to what happened to him would anger the wife and physically hurt Zarah.

After giving it a thought, Zarah thought that this would harm the mother and the baby, too. So she decided to obey him.

"Don't worry about him. I've arranged for the best team to watch over his recovery should he survive this. I know you're tired. Let's go."

"No. I'll wait here and make sure that Zed will come out from that room alive." Then she thought about Xavier. He should be exhausted from work and from the accident he had.

"Are you sure that you're fine?" She had already asked him this question for the nth time. Then she continued, "You should head back first so you could rest. I'll be fine here."

"Yes, I'm fine," he answered her first question and continued, "No. I won't leave this place without you."

In the end, they waited until the operation was over.

After the doctor approached the wife who was crying, Zarah thought that the operation was a success.

However, when they approached the doctor, he said that the operation was a success.

"Now that the operation is over, let's head back now," Xavier told her.

They waited for ten hours in the hospital and he thought that she should be exhausted by now.

Zarah nodded and they headed to the exit of the hospital.

Just then, she saw a middle-aged woman coming out of the elevator, and when the woman recognized her, she did not hesitate to give Zarah a big slap on the face.

It happened so fast that Zarah was caught off-guard. She closed her eyes on reflex and waited for her hand to land on her face.

However, it did not happen as Xavier grabbed the woman's hand and stopped it mid-air.

Xavier, next time drive slowly or you will get yourself killed even before you can confess your feelings to Zarah.

As for Commissioner Wagner, don't lose hope. You'll find your own Zarah. Just be patient.
