Delivering Some Stuff Over

Ryan found that he was unable to sit still after Violet hung up on him earlier that morning.

He has been working on the night shift and was tired from work. Initially, Ryan was planning to head back to his apartment to rest. Unexpectedly, Ryan heard from his sister that Violet had agreed to go out on a date with him.

Since Violet won't talk to him nicely, Ryan decided to head back to his mother's place and found out what was going on.

He figured that it was better for him to talk to his mother face-to-face instead of speaking to her on the phone.

When he got home, he found out that he was supposed to go on a date with Violet tomorrow as he had a day off. However, Violet said that she won't be able to go to this date as she already promised her grandfather that she was going to visit the old man.

Ryan let out a breath in relief, knowing that Violet had done something to stop their date.

At the same time, Ryan was feeling guilty for the way he was talking to her earlier.

He should realize that they were on the same boat. They both did not want this arrange marriage. Therefore, he should not be too hard on Violet.

"That's right..."

His mother's voice snapped him out of his trance. Ryan looked up to see that his mother was looking at him with a faint smile on her face.

"Ryan, I don't suppose you have any plan today?" Audrey put down the teacup in her hand as she looked at her son.

Ryan heaved a sigh as he leaned on the sofa behind him. "I'm planning to stay at home and rest. What else should I do?"

A few minutes later, Ryan realized that he has been giving his mother the wrong answer. He should not tell his mother that he was free.

He sat up again and looked at his mother suspiciously. "No, I mean, I do have a plan. I—"

"It's good that you don't have a plan," Audrey spoke before her son could come up with an excuse. A faint smile curled on her lips, as she already guessed what her son was going to do just now. She was his mother. How can she not know what Ryan was going to do?

"I have something for you to do," Audrey said.

"Mom, I—"

"What is it? Didn't you say that you don't have a plan?" Audrey raised a brow.

Ryan heaved a sigh in resignation. He realized that he had lowered his guard around his mother the moment he knew that he did not have to go out with Violet. His mother was planning something.

"I bought something earlier and I hoped that you can help me to deliver it for me," Audrey said.

"What is it?"

"I heard that Violet was very close to her maternal grandfather."

Ryan already knew that he did not like what his mother was going to ask him to do the moment he heard Violet's name.

"I was thinking that you should go over and send a few souvenirs to him."

"Mom... Don't you think that is inappropriate?"

"What's inappropriate about delivering some stuff over?"

"It's not good to go over when I was not invited, right?" Ryan was quick to come up with an excuse.

"I only need you to deliver some stuff. You don't need to be invited for that."

The corner of Ryan's lips began to twitch. He opened his mouth, wanting to come up with a new excuse. However, he realized that he would not be able to win in arguing with his mother.

Audrey stood up when her son did not say anything. "You can go and rest now. Just come out in the evening and help me to deliver some stuff."

Ryan watched as his mother leave while rubbing his forehead. He thought that it was good enough that he managed to skip going on a date with Violet. Who knew that his mother would make him to do something like this.

...

It was almost dinner and the girls were in the kitchen preparing some final touches on their dishes when their grandfather showed up in the kitchen, carrying a fancy paper bag in his hand. "Guess who came to visit you, Violet?"

Violet frowned as she was not expecting anyone to visit her. "Who?"

"Your friend," Grandpa said. "Ah, I forgot what he said his name was. But I found him roaming outside. He told me that he was looking for you. Look! He bought me a souvenir too. Such a gentleman."

The old man placed the bag on the kitchen counter. He told the housekeeper to help him bring some refreshment into the living room. Then, he left to meet the guest after reminding Violet not to let her guest wait for a long time.

The girls exchange their glance. Both were worry that their grandpa has invited a stranger into his house. After all, there weren't a lot of people who knew of their trip to grandpa's place.

"Maybe Evan came looking for you," Sarah suggested.

"No. I don't think so. Evan wouldn't pull something like this." The frown on Violet's face deepened. She took out her phone, but other than Ryan's phone call that she had ignored earlier, there was no one else looking for her.

"Why don't you go with Grandpa and check who it was?" Sarah fished into her apron and handed her cousin her phone. "Take this. Just in case you need to call for the cop. Or scream your lungs out and I'll come to help. Don't worry about me. I'll be out there once I finish everything else," she motioned towards the dishes on the kitchen top.

"Alright then." Violet nodded. She thanked her cousin and walked to the living room.

She walked towards the living room and gasped when she saw a familiar figure sitting comfortably on the sofa, chatting with her Grandpa.

"You!" She gasped. Her eyes widened. "What are you doing here?"
