1 "I'll never leave you bunny, promise," (Chapter 1)

Unedited

"I'll never leave you bunny, promise." I don't know what hurt worse. The fact that he broke his promise or the fact he never meant it. Either way I don't care. He made his choice. He'll live with it.

As I watch each lifeless drop fall on the window and roll slowly down. Repeating over and over again. A wave of relief floods through my body. It feels as if forgot why I was even agitated in the first place.

"Mason I know how you feel about your father, but this will be good for you," my mother says. Okay now I remember why I was agitated. My mother always try's to find the good in negative situations. However, my father is the negative situation. Silence. It can either be the most comforting or awkward thing.

"He doesn't care mom," I say in an emotionless tone. No matter how sad it is to say. My father didn't care and he still doesn't. Unfortunately, my mother continues to make excuses for his reasoning of absence. However, I kept count just so the day that I got to see him I would rub it in his pretty blonde face. Eight years to be exact. Besides me counting down the father-less years. My mom and I were doing great. Until we received the wedding invitation.

I'm not sad or mad that he's getting married. It's simple. I. Don't. Care. And that's why I will continue to acknowledge him as the sperm donor. Some may say I'm being 'dramatic' or even 'selfish'. But truth is I'm still hurting. "It'll be okay," she whispers. For you or me I wanted to say, but it's not her fault that my father is deadbeat ex-husband/father.

"Yea mom," I say. Annoyed with the thought of my father. closing my eyes. I allow the lonely, dark, and depressing black nothingness to invade my thoughts, and put me into a peaceful slumber.

"Macie wait up for me!" He shouts trying to catch up to me. Turning my head over my shoulder to look at him. His presence makes a smile form on my face. As the wind blew through his gorgeous blonde curls. His big round jade green eyes sparkled with the most dazzling stars. The smile he wore reminded me of all the love he was willing to spoil me with.

"No can do loser" I yell over my shoulder running on the warm rust-colored sand, while the waves of the enduring sea swam under my feet. The softest shade of pink swirled with yellow. The sun rested beneath the beautiful swirl. Catching my breath as I come to a sudden stop. Closing my eyes inhaling the fresh smell of saltwater and happiness.

Free is what I felt. "Caught you little bunny!" He exclaims. Scooping me up into his arms. Spinning me around in circles. Laughter reverberated throughout the beach. As our laughter dies down.

He sits down on the sand, while I'm still being held in his arms. Watching the sun kiss the moon goodbye. Intertwining our hands. He squeezes my hand. I squeeze back." I love you bunny" he says kissing the top of my head. " I love you too daddy, "I say squeezing the hand of the man that was once known as my father.

"Mace" a distant voice calls disturbing my peaceful sleep. "Mace" the voice calls again sounding oddly familiar. Slowly opening my eyes. Bright blue eyes are studying my cold green ones. "Mom?" I question my voice sounding more rough than I would have figured.

"Yes love" she says. "I'm going to miss you "I say. Rubbing the drool from my mouth. "Mace it's only 2 weeks and I'll be back for the wedding " she says wrapping her arms around me. Inhaling her sweet flowery scent. "I wish we could visit nana and pops in Georgia instead" I say pouting." I know baby but you'll see it won't be so bad,"

She's right. It'll be worse! My mom grabs my hand and gives it a reassuring squeeze. "We're here," She says in a low and peaceful tone. "We're here," I repeat shakily . She doesn't say anything just nods. "I'll unload the bags from the trunk," She says.

Okay, Mason, this is not the end of the world. Just the end of your world . Okay okay, fix yourself. Deep breaths in and out. Okay, I'm ready. I think. It'll be okay. Be ok.
