6 Chronicle VI: Appearance

I woke up in my bed without the slightest idea of what happened last night. All I remember is that that thing similar to me was chasing us, I crashed into a ravine, and that I was falling slowly... After that everything went black.

Holy shit, am I dead?!

I got up right away, but I got tangled in my sheets and fell facedown on the floor.

Yep, pretty alive.

That hurt.

After talking a bit with Zarathos about what happened, I went down to the kitchen to have breakfast.

There were my little brother, Rex, and my mother, Iris. I said good morning, patted Rex's head, and started eating.

I felt uncomfortable for a few moments. As if a sense of hatred and danger were nailed in me... A demon in broad daylight? It can't be... a lesser demon? A succubus? What the hell was causing this?!

I glanced around surreptitiously, and saw Rex staring at me angrily.

Ah, it was him.

Wait, did I forget something? Why is he looking at me like that?

- Um, Rex, buddy, is something wrong?

He didn't say anything to me, just kept chewing with the same expression.

I'm honestly fighting a lot not to laugh with that face.

I heard Iris sigh.

- Daniel, I heard noises in your room last night. You didn't sneak around again, did you? You don't know how worried your father and I were. You left Rex alone at school when you were supposed to pick him up!

Shit, I forgot.

Make up something, quick!

- Oh, uh, sorry, is that I... I was in the church helping the Father.

I hope she didn't ask what I was doing there, because if I had to explain to her that I have a demon spirit inside me that transforms me into a guilty soul-devouring, demon-hunter fire skeleton, she would definitely send me to an asylum. That, or she would pass out.

Or call an exorcist if he decided to believe me. The Johnsons are a religious family.

DonΒ΄t ask donΒ΄t ask donΒ΄t-

- Aw, are you helping him with the problems he has? That's very sweet of you, Kadane!

- Yeeeeeah...

Damn, it worked.

And it's still embarrassing that she uses my middle name.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luckily, after apologizing to Rex and promising to buy him ice cream to make up for my inattention, we headed to high school.

As the little boy's school was on the way, he accompanied me.

When we arrived, I made him promise that he wasn't going to get in any trouble. I don't want him to end up like me.

Luckily he understood, but before entering he gave me a big hug.

- Well, time to go, buddy ...You give really strong hugs... Agh, my bones!- I exaggerated.

We both laugh. Some people looked at us with warm smiles.

As this world is rotten, some people pick on Rex just because of his skin color, associating him with me, who is the adopted of the family.

But he solved it easily: shutting them up with his fists.

I think I'm a bad influence.

Anyway, after a sermon, I told him to leave the blows to me, and to ignore the others. As long as he had these kinds of problems, he could go with Iris and Carl, and as a last resort, with me.

Since then, I always accompany him to the entrance of the school.

One of her teachers came over, greeting us both and gesturing for Rex to go to class.

- How are things lately?- I asked.

- Since the last fight, none of those kids messed with him again. He and his friends are no longer bothered...

I smiled. Having people that love you by your side is a beautiful feeling.

- Daniel- I looked at her-. You are a great brother and a good person. I hope you know.

I stood still watching her go.

I am?

I remembered the things that I had done so far with the curse that I have.

Honestly, no.

I don't think so.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I finally made it to high school.

Since I take Rex to school, I am always late. It's not like it matters either, I will probably get another scolding, a threat of expulsion if I keep going like this, etc. One more for the 47 that go in the year.

New record here I come.

Aaaand again the glances and whispers of the others behind me as soon as I enter.

Having a reputation as a school delinquent is not good for you.

I honestly hate these kinds of people. Hypocritical, self-righteous, they believe they can judge others just because they did something that attracted attention.

All I did was defend myself. They messed with me. What were they waiting for? That I did not defend myself?

I'm not someone you can step over and terrorize.

But of course, who would listen to the guilty, who is actually innocent?

Sometimes people have no choice but to do what is necessary.

I just ignored them and went on my way to class.

Wait.

What's this? I feel an aura... An evil one.

- π‘«π’†π’Žπ’π’π’Šπ’„ 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆… 𝒀𝒐𝒖 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 π’˜π’‰π’†π’ π’…π’†π’Žπ’π’π’” 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 π’šπ’π’–.

Right in my classroom?

Yeah, no pressure.

I opened the door slowly. I don't want to fight when innocent people are involved.

And there was the one who gave off that presence. A guy with red hair and green eyes...

And a terrifyingly huge evil aura.

HeΒ΄s dangerous.

- Ah, so that you are finally honoring us with your presence, Mr. Johnson - I heard the professor say- You and I will talk after school... Now have a seat.

I sat down, but at any moment did I take my eye off that guy. However, he was smiling, looking back at me smugly.

Son of a...

I really donΒ΄t like him.

- Ok class, I don't usually do this, but I'll make an exception. Let me introduce you to a new colleague who will be joining our school since today.

And with a gesture, he pointed at him.

- Please welcome Aaron Crane.
