Chapter 5: That Jerk named Kevin

"What?!" Vlad ran after him and held his hands. "Wait up!" He yanked Vlad's hands off.

"Don't touch me, you damn vampire." Kevin snarled. "It's disgusting." And finally Vlad snapped.

He jumped over Kevin who was quite bigger and muscular.

"You damn spider, get off me." Kevin struggled as Vlad pulled his hair, almost ripping them off.

"How dare you insult me! You're dead meat!" Vlad raged, pulling his hair even harder.

They both ended up in the principal's office.

"What do you too have to say for yourself?" Principal Conan said, looking at Vlad who was still as neat as a cat and Kevin who was the complete opposite.

Principal Conan was a fairy, he looked like he had lived for over a decade. Although he was old, everyone in the school respected him as he was one of the best.

"He just suddenly jumped on me and started pulling my hair like some crazy lunatic, Principal Conan." Kevin reported.

"Well maybe you shouldn't go around calling people disgusting." Vlad said back. They both crossed their arms looking away from each other. Principal Conan sighed.

"What an asshole." Vlad thought.

"Vlad, I understand you must be having a tough time after what happened. But you should know better than hurting your savior." Principal Conan said.

"What do you mean?" Vlad asked, confused.

"It was Kevin here who rescued you. Without him, who knows what would have happened to you." Principal Conan said.

"Really?" Vlad turned to look at Kevin who was looking straight at the principal.

"He rescued me? This jerk did?" Vlad was confused. "Why did he rescue me if he hated me so much? Or does he and the real Vlad have a bad history?" Vlad thought.

"Vlad, you should apologize to Kevin, since you attacked first." Principal Conan instructed.

"I'm sorry." Vlad apologized. "But don't go around hating on other people for no reason." Vlad stood up.

"I'll be taking my leave now." Vlad said. He left the office leaving Principal Conan and Kevin.

Candy was just outside the office waiting for Vlad.

"Are you alright?" Candy asked, worried. "I'm fine." Vlad replied.

"What was that about? I asked you to talk to him, not to start a fight." Candy fumed.

"I'm sorry Candy, but he was being a total jerk." Vlad said. Candy sighed. "The principal just said something about Kevin rescuing me. I wonder what that was about?"

"That's what you were supposed to find out. Let's go back to the dorm. You'll ask him tomorrow in class." Candy said.

"We're in the same class?"

"Yes. Kevin hasn't always been fond of vampires, even though he's half vampire himself." Candy recalled.

"He's half vampire? Then why is he-"

"He's also half demon. The relationship between vampires and demons isn't the best. Demons think of vampires as lowly bloodsucking creatures. But vampires think they are superior. It's just a bunch of different problems between those two." Candy explained as they walked back to the dorm.

"I see." Vlad said.

"Let's grab lunch before heading back." Candy suggested.

"You're right, I'm starving!" Vlad exclaimed.

Back in the principal's office.

"Kevin please take care of him, he doesn't have many friends and we don't want history to repeat itself." Principal Conan said worriedly. Kevin didn't like the idea of looking after Vlad but he couldn't bring himself to deny principal Conan's request.

"I'll do what I can." Kevin sighed.

"Oh." Principal Conan brought out a paper slip. "You stay in the same dorm with Vlad right? Give this to him." He said handing the paper slip to Kevin.

Kevin left the office.

Later in the evening, Vlad and Candy were back in the dorm room.

"Today was such a mess." Vlad said, falling on the bed.

"And whose fault was that?" Candy replied, raising his eyebrow. "But there's always a next time!" Candy said with a big smile.

"You're so positive Candy." Vlad muttered as he tore a lollipop wrap and put it in his mouth. They heard a knock on their door.

"Who could that be?" Candy and Vlad looked at each other before Vlad stood up to get the door.

As Vlad opened the door, the lollipop in his mouth fell down.

"Wh- What are you doing here?" He stuttered as Kevin, whom he almost ripped off all his hair just this afternoon was right in front of him. Of course Kevin had the same uninterested look on his face.

"Principal Conan asked me to hand this to you." Kevin said, extending his hand which the paper was in. Vlad took it confused as to what it was.

"What is this?" Vlad asked, taking the paper from Kevin.

"Don't ask me." Kevin said aggressively.

"As grumpy as ever." Vlad rolled his eyes. "This isn't the time to be picking fights." Vlad thought.

A smile crawled up Vlad's face. "Wait here." Vlad said, turning around to grab something from his bed, and he was back.

"Here." He grabbed Kevin's firm, toned hand and placed a chocolate bar in it.

"What is this?" Kevin asked, confused.

"You're an asshole, but I feel kinda bad for your hair and scalp." Vlad said with a smile.

"You little-" Before Kevin could finish his sentence. "Thank you for delivering this, goodnight." Vlad said and shut the door. Leaving Kevin furious. "That damn spider." He cursed before leaving.

Vlad went over to Candy's side of the room where candy was reading a book.

"What is this?" Vlad asked curiously as he showed Candy the blank paper. Candy looked up at the paper.

"Oh that's your class schedule." Candy said.

"Class schedule? But it's blank." Vlad was confused. Candy took the paper from Vlad's hand.

"What did I tell you? You just have to do a little magic." Candy said as he swipes his hand on the paper. Finally the black inked words appeared on the paper.

"Ohhh!" Vlad exclaimed. "As expected, you're amazing."

"What can I say, I'm the greatest researcher out there.." Candy boasted, making Vlad laugh.

"But that damn Kevin. Why couldn't he just tell me that. What a jerk." Vlad ranted. "I'll make sure he spills every little detail to me. Just wait and see Candy!" Vlad pledged, but there was no response, he looked to his side to see Candy who was already fast asleep.

"What type of superpower is that?" He sighed, taking a blanket and placing it over Candy.

"I should get some sleep also." Vlad said, walking to his bed. He stumbled upon a bag, revealing an ancient box with a ruby stone on top and a key.

"I forgot about this." He said, picking up the box and the key.

"I'll ask Candy about this tomorrow." He placed the two items on the table just in front of his bed.

"Oh that right." Vlad said as he started looking through his luggage. He brought out the potion Zelda gave to him for his memory.

"This might be the easiest way to learn what happened, but I still don't fully trust Zelda and it would feel like I was prying into the real Vlad's life. I can't do that just because some book said we're the same person. Zelda didn't give me much information and it didn't seem like she wanted me to know about the incident, but she went ahead to make a potion to give me back the memories she clearly didn't want to talk about. Suspicious." Vlad thought to himself as he analyzed the glimmering potion.

He tucked the potion back into his luggage.

"It'll be my last resort." Vlad sighed. He finally got on his bed and slept the night away.
