Both Peter and Gwen appeared on top of a building overlooking the repair shop at the corner of the street.

"Wait, I wanted to try something," Gwen said, stopping Peter from advancing.

Peter looked at her curiously and gave her the go-ahead.

Gwen closed her eyes and started focusing her senses. It took her a few minutes, but images started to appear in her mind—images of people all appearing as if she was looking at them with thermal vision.

She was able to detect Peter's heat signature right next to her, as well as the heat signatures of people walking below them and briefly some of those in their cars before they quickly disappeared.

Gwen then focused her attention solely on the repair shop. She turned towards Peter. "The thing I was trying to do worked, but I wasn't able to detect anyone inside the shop."

Peter nodded. "He's probably underground then. We have to sneak in and take a closer look."

Peter and Gwen jumped from the building where they stood and turned invisible mid-air.

As they landed, Peter said, "Alright, do your thing."

Although Peter couldn't see it, Gwen nodded and approached the keyhole of the shop.

From Gwen's fingertip, white ice slowly formed. As it formed, Gwen inserted the ice into the keyhole, causing it to take the shape needed to open the door.

Gwen twisted her finger, and the door made a *click* before slowly widening. Peter and Gwen silently sneaked their way in.

In front of them was a front desk with tools and cogs scattered about, along with a radio in the corner and a cash register to the side. Behind the desk, a closed door had a sign that read: Workshop.

Various types of machines were hanging around in display, like watches, radios, and household items, giving it the aesthetic of a regular old repair shop.

"Now that we're closer, want to try again?" Peter whispered.

Gwen didn't respond as she closed her eyes and focused on detecting anything emitting heat.

"Under us," she whispered in a low tone. "I can detect someone moving around."

Peter nodded. "Now we just have to find the entrance. Activate Aria X-Ray."

There wasn't anything out of the ordinary in the room.

"Maybe it's in the workshop behind the desk," Gwen suggested. Peter nodded in agreement, and they both jumped over the desk and tried the door.

With a simple turn, the door opened, revealing a regular mechanic workshop with small tools and broken gadgets on a table. There were pieces of metal, bolts, and screws scattered everywhere.

Seeing no one around, Peter once again activated the X-ray. Aria outlined a hidden door by their feet.

Although invisible, Peter and Gwen looked towards each other slightly as they slowly and softly opened the hidden door.

As it opened, Peter and Gwen jumped down, their spider-sense flaring, warning them of the approaching danger.

Peter and Gwen deactivated their invisibility and leaped to the side, narrowly dodging lasers that came their way.

They looked towards their attacker and saw an old man. He had wild white hair signifying his age, wrinkled skin, a large bushy mustache that hid his upper lip, and metal goggles with a purple glint.

"If it ain't the spider couple, you've found me too quickly," he snarled, pointing a gun in their direction.

"Come on, old man, isn't it past your bedtime to be playing with toys at this hour?" Peter said with a smirk.

"This is perfect!" the old man blurted out suddenly, as if he had just gained an idea. "If I defeat both of you, I'll show everyone how great my creations are. There will be hundreds lined up, and I'll be rich."

Gwen let out a fake sigh, placing a hand on her hip and looking reproachfully at the tinkerer. "Grandpa, are you off your medications again?"

The Tinkerer pointed his gun towards them and started shooting lasers, causing them to dodge.

"Make all the jokes you want; I'll be the one having the last laugh. Hahahahah!" He laughed maniacally as he followed them with the laser gun, shooting.

As they dodged all the laser bullets, Peter shot a web at the gun and yanked it out of the old man's hands. "Okay, grandpa, that's enough reminiscing about the war. Tell us a different story."

The Tinkerer placed a small speaker beside him, causing it to emit a sound that affected only spiders. "Then listen to this!"

Peter and Gwen paused, holding their ears. "I forgot about that part," Peter grunted.

"No fair, old man; you're using your hearing aids to your advantage," Gwen grunted.

The old man took out a flamethrower, but before he could activate it Peter shot an electric web disabling the speakers, Gwen leaped over and snatched the Flamethrower from his hands before shooting a cold web towards him, ice started to spread around the webs making the hold on him tighter.

"God damn it! Curse you, Ghost-Spider and Spider-Man!" Tinkerer yelled as he fell to the floor, unable to move due to the webs.

The Tinkerer started throwing curses towards Peter and Gwen. Peter shot a web towards the old man's mouth, causing him to emit loud muffled mumbles and grunts.

"Careful, gramps, I don't want you throwing your hips out because you're struggling too hard now," Peter said as he picked him up and put him on his shoulders.

Gwen then gathered all the weapons and gadgets and placed them over her shoulders before winking towards the Tinkerer. "Sorry, these babies are being confiscated."

The Tinkerer thrashed and screamed in desperation and hate as he glared towards Gwen.

Peter and Gwen then jumped out of the underground workshop and exited the shop.

Gwen and Peter decided to separate for a bit. She went back to the lab to store everything while Peter went toward the police station.

The old man was letting out muffled screams and cries as Peter swung with him on his shoulders.

People below them saw this scene and slowly pulled out their phones; some recorded it, and some...

"This is 911, what's your emergency?" the operator responded.

"Yeah, hello, um, I think I just saw Spider-Man kidnap an old man and swing away."

"Excuse me? Can you repeat that again?" the 911 operator asked in disbelief.

As Peter landed in front of the police station, two officers dressed in blue stared weirdly as Spider-Man carried a tied-up old man on his shoulder.

"Good morning, officers," Peter casually greeted them as if they were old friends.

"It's the middle of the night, Spider-Man, what are you doing?" one of them asked bravely.

"It's past 11:59, which means it's morning," Peter answered as he walked towards them with a slight skip in his steps.

The partner of the other guy intervened, "We're not talking about that! We're talking about the crying old man on your shoulders!"

"Ah, him! I forgot about him for a second," Peter said as he put him on the floor. "Well, guys, meet the Tinkerer!"

"You're talking about the underground weapons dealer that goes by that name?" one of the officers asked.

"Bingo, but no prize. He recently made weapons to go against us, so we had to find him. Here you go."

Before they had a chance to say anything, Peter saluted them. "Keep up the good work, officers," and charged up a jump before joining up with Gwen.

A few minutes later…

"Sigh, now for the hard part of the night," Peter said.

Gwen let out a sigh of her own before nodding in agreement. "Cleaning the streets of all these weapons that are out there."

And that's exactly how they spent the rest of the night until the sun started to rise.
