33 Chapter 33

[Third Person's PoV]

After Aunt May roused Peter from his nap and they had lunch, he headed back to his room to complete the remaining homework he hadn't finished at school.

Once he finished, he hurried downstairs and announced, "I'm off to study with Gwen!"

"Do you really need to study?" inquired Aunt May, raising a brow.

Peter nodded. "You can never be too prepared. So, yes, we do... Well, I'll catch you later, Aunt May. Love you," he said, making his way out of the house.

Aunt May shook her head affectionately. "Don't stay out too late, young man!"

Without saying a word, Peter flashed a thumbs-up in her direction before heading out.

...

Swinging swiftly across the city of New York, both Peter and Gwen communicated through their headsets.

"So, what's on the agenda today, Arnny?" Peter asked while navigating the city skyline.

"There's an out-of-control bus a few streets away from your location. It's moving at high speed and unable to stop. Here's the location and its current path," Arnny responded, displaying a map indicating the bus's route.

"Let's get to it," Gwen urged, propelling herself ahead. Arriving at the scene, they witnessed the bus careening through traffic, narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles.

Both Gwen and Peter landed atop the bus, making their way towards the roof's edge where the doors were located. Hanging upside-down, they observed the frantic chaos within.

Peter peered through the windshield, noticing the driver in a state of panic, gripping the steering wheel desperately. Peter knocked on the door, prompting the driver to momentarily glance towards the sound before immediately returning focus to the road ahead.

As the driver pressed a button, the doors of the bus swung open, prompting Gwen to inquire, "What seems to be the problem?"

Without taking his eyes off the road, the driver continued slamming on the brakes, "It's the brakes! They're stuck, and I can't stop the bus!"

"Don't worry, we're here to help. Stay calm and close the door once we're out," Peter reassured the driver in a composed tone.

The driver simply nodded in response. Peter and Gwen leaped off the bus, planning their next move.

"What's the plan? Should we web the wheels?" Gwen inquired.

"No, that might cause the bus to flip or lose control, endangering the passengers," Peter explained. "We'll use our webs to anchor the bus to the buildings, slowing it down. Once it's sufficiently slowed, then we'll web the wheels."

Both Peter and Gwen swung alongside the bus, firing their webs at multiple buildings, attaching them to the bus. The webbing gradually slowed the bus until it became entangled in a web cocoon, causing it to halt despite the wheels still turning.

Working together, Peter and Gwen carefully webbed the bus's wheels, bringing it to a complete stop. Gwen then approached the bus door and knocked, signaling for the driver to open it.

As the driver opened the bus door, he collapsed back into his seat, visibly relieved to be alive, panting heavily from the adrenaline rush and the narrow escape from danger.

Gwen leaned inside the bus, advising everyone present, "It's safer if you all exit the bus and wait for the police to arrive and resolve the issue."

With tears in his eyes, the driver turned to Gwen, expressing his gratitude, "Thank you, thank you so much."

Embarrassed, Gwen rubbed the back of her head. "Don't worry about it. Just doing what we can to help."

One by one, the passengers disembarked, expressing their heartfelt thanks to the heroic spider duo, each person teary-eyed with relief.

Observing everyone safely off the bus, Gwen and Peter nodded to them before swinging away. "What's next?" Gwen inquired.

"In a construction site a few blocks away, there are people dangling precariously and need immediate help," Arnny informed them.

Without hesitation, both Gwen and Peter raced and swung at full speed towards the construction site. Arriving at the scene, they spotted four construction workers hanging by a thin thread that was on the verge of snapping.

As the thread gave way, the workers started hurtling downwards, screaming and flailing their arms in a desperate attempt to grab onto something. The other workers on the ground looked on in horror, paralyzed by the impending disaster.

Gwen shouted, "Throw me!"

Reacting instantly, Peter shot two webs over his shoulders, launching Gwen higher into the air while he surrounded himself with electricity and sprinted up the building. The workers, still plunging towards the ground, were running out of time.

At the workers' height, Peter leaped and caught the other two, securing them. Gwen landed forcefully, causing the ground to crack beneath her, holding the other two workers.

Meanwhile, Peter skidded to a stop after catching the other pair, visibly relieved but ready for the next challenge. Before he could check on the workers, Gwen urgently called out, "Spider-Man, quickly, look towards the other workers' direction!"

Peter swiftly turned, only to witness a massive steel beam hurtling towards the workers. The workers watching the beam fall could only look up in horror. Without a second thought, Peter encased himself in lightning, sprinting at superhuman speed towards the impending danger.

BOOOM!

Dust was kicked up due to the weight of the steel beam and the force it picked up while falling. After a few seconds the dust cleared revealing all the construction workers sitting on their butts with a terrified expression and Spider-Man holding the steel beam above his head.

The ground where Peter was standing was caved in, and while holding the beam Peter looked towards the workers and asked "You guys alright?"

They quickly nodded, one of them asking in a shaky voice, "How did you do that?"

"I eat all my vegetables," Peter quipped jokingly.

Hearing his response, the guy who asked chuckled awkwardly.

"Could you guys move away so I can put this down? It's not heavy, but I'd rather not become a statue," Peter added.

"Right, sorry," they all said, scurrying out of the way as Peter carefully lowered the steel beam.

As he dropped it, Gwen approached him, asking, "Are you alright?"

"Yeah, unfortunately, we can't stick around too long. I hear we could get written up for not wearing our hard hats," Peter replied.

Gwen playfully smacked Peter's shoulder. "If you're cracking jokes, you're good."

As they were about to swing away, Peter turned to them and said, "Remember the safety procedures next time, and leave the dangling part to the spider heroes."

With that, both Peter and Gwen swung away, performing more rescues and superhero acts around the city until late afternoon...
