Chapter 1 - Prologue

The beginning of my story is simple: I am the son of Adam and Alice Maxwell. They met in New York; my mother had left Brazil, her homeland, to study medicine and ended up being mugged in an alley after getting lost. When she went to the police, she was attended by none other than Adam Maxwell. Convenient? Perhaps.

They met, and blah, blah, blah. Honestly, thinking about it is not at all stimulating; in fact, it's a bit nauseating. Yes, I'm a bit nauseous just thinking about it now.

Back to the subject, three years later and BOOM, I was born. Arthur Maxwell, a child with brown skin and black hair. We lived happily until I was 4 years old.

Two months before my birthday, in the year 2008, my father died in an alleged fight involving Spider-Man and a villain.

We were devastated, cried for days, and suffered for weeks. We received some financial assistance from the state and a guy named Peter Parker. Nonetheless, my mother had to start working overtime, and I began to isolate myself from everyone.

I was never a popular kid; I always had two or three friends, but after what happened, I didn't let anyone get too close. Looking back now, I was just a boy afraid of losing someone else.

My gloomy personality persisted until halfway through my 6 years when I met Gwen Stacy, a girl with blonde hair, a headband, and blue eyes. What set her apart from other kids at the time was her eyes, which reflected the pain of loss, just like mine.

We became best friends quickly; we were practically inseparable. We confide in each other about our doubts and fears.

Because of us, our parents met. A woman who lost her husband and a man who lost his wife. The result? Three years later, and BOOM, they started dating, which made things a bit awkward between me and Gwen. Since a year later, and BO- Ok... ok, I'll stop. A year later, we started "dating" (we didn't exactly know what to do). Crazy, right?

At the time, we were very afraid to tell our parents. Did I mention that her dad was also a cop? No, I don't think I did. I must have forgotten to mention that he was 6'2" and that his arm was ten times the size of mine. Not at all intimidating. I didn't even have to change my underwear after the conversation.

At eleven years old, I finally started to come out of my shell. After all, now I had a girlfriend (Now we knew what it meant... the birds and bees talk was complicated), a caring mother, and an intimidating yet soft-hearted father. Yes, I started calling George dad.

Everything was going well until the bullying started. I mean, I was a perfect target: skinny, walked most of the time with my head down, and stumbled over my words. Gwen defended me most of the time, but we didn't always walk together, and it was in those moments that the bullying went beyond just nicknames or insults.

I still remember the day I came home with black eyes and a bloody lip. I had never seen my mother so angry and my father indignant like that. Even though they went to talk to the director, there was no resolution. George Stacy held a low position and Alice was a naturalized citizen.

But with this whole situation I understood something very basic: the world is not fair. People who do evil often go unpunished because they have more influence and not even the police can touch them.

When I came to this understanding, I knew that this problem had to be solved by myself. I couldn't continue to be protected and dependent on others. I had to defend myself, I had to react, I had to free myself!

At that time, I didn't know that, at that exact moment, the moment I decided to fight back, my story changed. It was there that I started to become an anomaly.
