Spheretesia, a Wanderlust Fantasy

The world just started to produce mana and the magic era begins... at least that's what suppose to happen. Normally it takes time for humans to adapt and develop mana, but before they can even discover it, monsters that are already familiar with mana appear out of nowhere and start to overrun the human population. Follow our protagonist as he does his best to survive against the monsters that invade his homeworld. But is this world really where the journey begins? --------------------------- I just wanted to mention that this is the first light novel that I’ve ever worked on and I’m also just doing this for fun, so I apologize in advance if it isn’t up to par. I also drew the cover myself because I wasn’t sure which pictures were okay to use and I didn’t want to bother with it. So yea, sorry about the amateur drawing (・.・;) In any case, feel free to give feedback and thank you for reading.

Chapter 5: Class

Rin drags the 5 bokin bodies inside the house. When he went inside he saw the bodies of a family of 3: a father, a mother, and a teen boy. Their bodies were left in a bedroom and they were eaten by the bokins.

Their guts spilled out of their stomach and they were missing some limbs. The smell was not pleasant either. Rin vomits at the grotesque sight.

The goblin and the bokins got their neck pierced so Rin didn't get to see their guts and other organs spilling out like Christmas presents. This family of 3 already had their organs out for a while now too so the smell was already thick in the air.

Rin steps out of the room to calm himself. The human bodies were in a bedroom so Ren can just shut the door to block the smell. After a couple of minutes, he decides to check on the system.

[Quest complete: Awaken thy class!]

[Please choose a class: ]

[Warrior: specialize in weaponry]

[Rogue: stealthy and dexterous]

[Mage: wielder of the magic arts]

[Shindra: absorb skills through cores]

-----------------------------------------

The first 3 classes are pretty basic. They are common classes found in many fantasy genres. The [Warrior] specializes in close-quarter combat, the [Rogue] uses stealth and unconventional means, and the [Mage] uses magic. On the other hand, the [Shindra] class is something Rin has never heard of.

'From what I can understand the class will allow me to obtain skills through some kind of core. The only core that I know of is the core of a golem, assuming that I can apply game logic here. But maybe… all monsters have a core?'

Rin walks toward the mage bokin. With the knife in hand, he carefully cuts the center of the body and finds the heart. He dissects more around the heart and eventually finds a marble to the left of the heart.

The sight was mystical as the light-blue color marble floats beside the heart and lung. It somehow stays afloat without anything to support it in place. Rin picks up the marble and assumes that this is the core that he is looking for. It was no longer floating as it rest on Rin's hand.

Rin dissects the other 4 bokins. All of them had a core and they were all located in the same area. The 4 bokins with the spear had cores the size of a nail plate whereas the mage bokin's core is half a size bigger.

Rin has made his decision. He is going to choose the [Shindra] class. He feels that this class has a lot of potential and is also versatile, assuming that all monsters have cores. He looks at the system and says in his head 'I choose the [Shindra] class!'

-----------------------------------------

[Class Shindra is chosen. Are you sure?]

[yes] [no]

-----------------------------------------

'Yes'

[Congratulations! You have obtained class: Shindra!]

A warm sensation surrounds Rin's body. He can feel his body getting lighter and his muscles getting tighter. His body is changing at a quick rate. The warm sensation subsides after a minute. He pulls up the status page.

'A whopping 15 stats just from getting a class! I'm already 40% stronger than I was before just from body strength alone. As for the class, I'm starting to understand how it functions based on the skills but what are skill points used for?'

After pondering for a second, Rin decides to use one of his new abilities [Inspect Mana Core]. With one core in hand, he closes his eyes and focuses on the mana inside his core.

Yes, Rin also has his own mana core. He doesn't know when this core was formed, he just learned about it when he obtained his abilities just now. It seems that the system will bestow the knowledge of how to use abilities obtained from the system and in the process Rin learned that he inhabits a core in the center of his chest.

Rin doesn't know how the system measures mana but he has been trying to manipulate the 1 point of mana that he had. He slowly guides the mana toward his right hand which is holding a mana core belonging to a spear-wielding bokin.

Over time as he gets familiar with this mana weaving, the mana also travels faster until eventually it reaches Rin's hand and transfers into the magic core. The process took about 10 minutes.

Rin's mana spreads inside the mana core and attempts to cover it, similar to how a drop of blood enters a cup of water and mixes with it. This process will allow Rin to scan the core through his own mana, thus allowing the system to bring up information for Rin.

[Mana Core: bokin]

Skills:

[Spear Mastery]

Cost: 4 bokin cores or 4 skill points

[Web Foot level 1]

Swim 10% faster

Cost: 2 Bokin cores or 2 skill points

[Amphibian Lungs]

Cost: 3 bokin cores or 3 skill points

Note: 3 bokin cores can be absorbed for 1 skill point

-----------------------------------------

Rin looks at his mana points and sees that it is at 2. He spent 1 mana just now so it seems that he gains 1 mana every 5 minutes or so. He immediately cast [Inspect Mana Core] on the rest of the cores.

The time for Rin to cast the skill shortens the more he uses it. The last core took him 7 minutes but he feels that he can still shorten that timer. It wasn't too difficult to get used to mana manipulation, he just needs more practice.

All of the spear-wielding bokins had the same skills. It was only the mage bokin that was different.

-----------------------------------------

[Mana Core: bokin (mage)]

Skills:

[Web Foot level 1]

No longer hampered by muddy terrain. Move 10% faster in muddy terrain and swim 10% faster

Cost: 2 Bokin cores or 2 skill points

[Amphibian Lungs]

Can breathe underwater

Cost: 3 bokin cores or 3 skill points

[Water Magic level 1]

Create and manipulate water

Cost: 3 bokin cores or 3 skill points

Note: 3 bokin cores can be absorbed for 1 skill point

-----------------------------------------

Rin places his right hand on his chin.

'Darn, there's a cost to learn skills. I guess it would have been overpowered if I could learn them for free. But I wonder why [Spear Mastery] costs so much? [Water Magic] seems more useful in my opinion and it's cheaper… I can only make guesses so I'll just forget it for now since I don't have the points to experiment.'

Rin's eyebrow twitched when he saw that 3 bokin cores can only be turned into 1 skill point. It seems that using the mana cores of the same species is much cheaper than using skill points.

'The system is so stingy… but I guess that just goes to show how weak the bokins are. For now, I want to get [Water Magic] and [Web Foot]. I want to steal the bokin's tactic and use the muddy terrain to my advantage. I don't have enough for both skills so I'll get [Water Magic] first and then find more bokins for [Web Foot].'

Rin holds the mage bokin core in one hand and 3 bokin cores in the other. The 3 bokin cores are the necessary cost to get the skill from the mage core so he will use 4 cores in total.

With Rin's own mana inside the cores, they have become a part of the system. All Rin has to do is think and select which skill he wants and whether he wants to pay with cores or skill points. Next, Rin only has to absorb the mana like a vacuum and the system will pick only the required data to absorb. This is how he activates his [Skill Plunder].

'Water Magic, Water Magic, Water Magic, I want Water Magic!!'

Because Rin is still new to this process, it took him a little while to absorb the 4 monster cores. After 10 minutes, he finally receives his first monster skill.
