Mundus

In a realm where demons and devils reside, a bloody rivalry was coming to an end. Two figures stood in the middle of what seemed to be a river that ended at a cliff. The river was surrounded by natural pillars made of something akin to marble.

Suddenly, the two figures blurred as they dashed towards each other. Blood was spilled into the river below before they came to a stop opposite of their previous positions.

One of the figures, a tall man with slicked-back silver hair and a blue coat stumbled forward and dropped the sword in his hand. The sword had a skull on the tip of the handle with a spike emerging from the top. A red amulet also fell from his neck, which he quickly snatched up.

Pain and exhaustion riddled the man's expression as he turned around to face his adversary.

What met his eyes was a spitting image of himself except for a red coat and messier hairstyle.

"No one can have this Dante. It's mine, it belongs to a son of Sparda!" The man exclaimed through pained breaths while clutching the amulet to his chest. He drew a katana from his side while taking steps back towards the cliff.

The previously mentioned Dante gritted his teeth and dashed towards the man, however, he was met with a katana pointed to his throat.

"Leave me and go, if you don't want to be trapped in the demon world. I'm staying, this place was our father's home."

As he finished speaking, the man leaned back and fell off the cliff.

Dante reached for his hand only to be cut by the mans katana.

"Vergil..." Dante said under his breath as he watched his twin brother disappear into the void below.

Dante leaned his head back and a sigh left his lips. He stared at the marble-like ceiling that was at least a hundred feet tall.

Suddenly, the world around him began to shake, causing him to lose his footing.

Dante quickly regained his balance, at least for a moment until the ground beneath him crumbled.

He looked back as the cliff fell and saw the sword that Vergil dropped falling after him. Dante stepped on one of the pieces of rubble that were near him and launched himself through the air, dodging several more pieces of rubble until he reached the sword. This was his father's sword, and he did not want the wrong demon or human getting their hands on it. After grabbing the sword, Dante realized that there was no longer any rubble around him, resulting in his fall down to the same void as his brother.

Dante awoke to find himself in water, but as he picked himself up, he realized he was actually standing on the surface, reverberating as he stood up.

As he looked around, Dante saw an uncountable number of what seemed to be ruins all around him while the water extended as far as the eye could see.

"Well, well, well..." Suddenly, a low and threatening voice entered Dante's ears causing him to draw His sword from his back.

"Who are you?" Dante called out as he looked around to try and spot the owner of the voice.

"I am Mundus, the ruler of the underworld, and you..." Three bright lights in the shape of a triangle appeared in a burst before Dante. "...Are in my domain... Tell me, how did the offspring of that traitor, Sparda find themselves in the depths of the demon world?... No matter, I will not question a gift that has fallen in my hands." The voice that proclaimed the name Mundus replied.

"Where is my brother? I wouldn't want him to be killed by anyone but me." Dante said in a taunting voice.

"I grow tired of your questions! It seems that you do not understand the peril you have found yourself in." Mundus exclaimed in an aggressive tone as he used some invisible force to restrict Dante and lift him from the water. As Dante was brought closer to Mundus, he looked down and saw his unconscious twin brother appear from the water below.

Vergil was brought closer while the other half of the perfect amulet floated beside him. He was covered in several injuries with his clothes not being in much better condition, "Truly, I must thank you both. You delivered the only thing I needed to destroy that retched spell used by your father: the Perfect Amulet. I will rule the human world, as it was always meant to be." Mundus spoke as if he could already imagine his triumph.

As he finished speaking, Dante felt a tug on his neck before he watched his own amulet being taken away. He attempted to break free from Mundus' grip, but to no avail. His injuries from his fight with Vergil had yet to heal.

"Why don't you stop talking and come down to fight me like a man." Dante suddenly spoke with a hint of mockery after accepting that he was not breaking free.

"I will not continue to be provoked by a child. Now... As much as I would enjoy having you two watch as your world is destroyed, I have no use for either of you. As a token of appreciation for the glorious gift, I will let you keep your weapons, for where you are headed is a dangerous place. I will be watching... so try to entertain me." Mundus said with pity as a portal opened beneath Dante and Vergil.

"Now... Farewell, Children of Sparda." Mundus spoke mockingly as he let out a thunderous laugh.

"*sigh* Damnit..." Dante said under his breath as he watched the portal get closer.

Vergil disappeared into the portal and Dante was not far behind.

I will be posting more chapters soon. I wanted to go ahead and post this one so I’ll stop procrastinating so much. Let me know what you think.
