55 Shoah Ultramax: A Droid Bug’s Moment

[Infra-red sensors online]

[Alert: Signal Jamming Frequency active]

[Sweeping area for bugs]

[Detection: Five on all five walls, auditory and visual data frequency detected]

The droid sprung to life at the slightest movement. Minute light rays peeped through and activated the visual sensors on its tiny leg clamped inconspicuously on the side slit of the medical device, mimicking the circuit structure of the device.

Within the droid, millions of atomites interlocked and packed densely with each other, sent a rush of algorithms, bit sized streams of code back and forth each other, working as a unit.

[Recording biometric sensors]

Each atomite played one of its interchangeable six core functions. The six core functions are sensory, signal processing, data storage, biosensory matching, movement, artificial intelligence decision making.

Sensory atomites received sounds and images via converted wave and electrical frequencies, acting as eyes and ears.

Signal processing atomites matched frequency patterns of sensory atomites determined by the atomites in charge of bio sensory matching, like nerves and the brain's structural function.

"Hmmm… hummmm…"

[Voice Identification: Perkuna Garan]

[Species: Perunian]

[Tagged Alert: Space Pirate]

[Voice to Transcription]

After the completed biosensory matching, the data storage atomites packed the bytes of data into its microscopic circuitry as memory. As long as they had space, the recording continued.

[Free Data Space: 6 Trillion]

At the core of all of them, are the atomites in charge of artificial intelligence decision making. They acted like a tiny brain, responding to threats, instructing the others how to carry out the droid's core mission, transmitting data, or ordering another atomite to change its functions.

Movement atomites are essentially the shapeshifting component of the droid, and its limbs to move away from danger. Like camouflaging the leg as a part of the medical device.

Like a spider, the droid extended its slim tentacles into any nook and cranny of the device. However, it couldn't because of the way the device was sealed.

The movement atomites also detected changes in direction, using the space station central gravitation force to project the telemetric coordinates using degrees. Their information sent to the 'brain' of the atomites created a physical layout.

"Hey Garan, mind if you look at the guard in the sick bay?"

[Voice Identification: Unknown]

[Voice Tag: Unknown 1]

[Species: Likely Velesian]

Each species possessed a unique tone, resonance, rate of speaking, accent, pitch and even the tiniest inflection, which helped the atomites to identify with 90% accuracy. The signal processing atomites tagged anything less than 90% as an unknown.

[Garan] "What happened to him?"

[Unknown 1] "Scuffle again in 9Q."

[Garan] "Tough area with all those volatile Satesians."

[Unknown 1] "heh… so you know. We're overflowing with them."

Garan's movement triggered a series of algorithms to trace the vectors around once he started walking. It would provide the layout later.

[Background: Forcefield pitch. Door pitch with astronium timbre]

[Garan] "alright, just curl up."

[Unknown 2] "the pain I go for you guys…"

[Garan] "What's so urgent?"

[Unknown 2] "heh… another load of prisoners are coming in."

[Garan] "And? "

[Unknown 2] "Along with the cyborg freaks, I saw Zhiva and the rest—"

[Garan] "So they're moving us?"

[Unknown 2] "Not you but…"

The droid sensed the gush of light from the sensory atomites and immediately switched the mode to record visually.

[Face biometric scanning]

[Species: Perunian]

The tiny recording sensors slowly swept the room for the layout as Garan brought the medical device down to scan the Perunian guard's face. Both were unaware of the droid recording them.

"Just pretend to continue scanning me all over," the guard said with his finger pointing to his abdomen.

"Why not me?" Garan lowered his voice.

"You're of use. None of the medical staff stay here for long," the guard replied. "But the rest of the gang, they're on the ship out."

"To where?"

"Just pretend to help me up… I'll take you to my control station," the guard said as the droid continued secretly recording the surroundings of the room as much as it could before the focus went back onto the body of the guard.

"You're going to show me?"

"I left my terminal on, so they won't suspect anything, plus I rerouted to hide the tracks if they are monitoring," the guard answered.

The droid went back into Garan's pocket.

[Garan] "Stop leaning on me!"

[Unknown 2] "Gotta pretend you are helping me."

[Garan] "If you pretend too much, they'll send you back to the quarters."

[Unknown 2] "A limp then?"

[Garan] "Yeah, I'll just tell them you hurt your leg muscle."

[Unknown 2] "What if they want to see…"

[Garan] "Want me to help kneecapping you?"

[Unknown 2] "HELL OWCH…"

[Background: Forcefield pitch. Door pitch with astronium timbre]

"Bah, another dang injury again… how many times have you got yourself injured? Damn fucking weak Perunians…"

[Unknown 2] "Nope, they just think all of us are weaklings. Usual shit."

[Unknown 2] "A limp then. My controls are there."

The droid stretched out its tiny leg and moved it up the clothing until the atomites sensed the light. A leg peeped out of the pocket, only to pop up against the side of a table.

The droid's sensory atomites noticed the reflection on the window with two figures looking at a screen.

[Unknown 2] "Yeah, but on this transport ship."

[Garan] "Hmmm… can't you switch names around?"

[Unknown 2] "Uh no. Commander's orders from the top."

[Garan] "Top?"

[Garan] "Always thought they were on our side."

[Unknown 2] "Factional switch the moment the General died."

[Garan] "How bad?"

[Unknown 2] "Look at the damn location and you'll know."

[Garan] "Hmm… uh."

The interlocking clamps between the atomites released as its 'brain' instructed all to transform the droid into a long snake-like shape, which stretched out, feeling for the clamp site on the skin on the finger.
