33 Chapter 33

[Third Person's PoV]

"Yo, old man, we need to talk," Futarou said as soon as he saw the news of Kai Mizuho's death.

"Sure, what is it?" Isanari asked in confusion.

Futarou just looked at Raiha and didn't say anything. Isanari immediately understood and got up to go towards the kitchen, while Raiha sat watching TV with the others nearby, relaxing.

As they were alone, Isanari repeated his question, but in a more serious manner, knowing if Raiha couldn't be present, it had to be something serious.

"Someone went after Raiha today," Futarou coldly answered.

"What?" Isanari growled in anger. "Explain everything that happened."

Futarou sighed as he started explaining everything. When he got to the part about letting the perpetrator go for a couple of gates, Isanari grabbed him by the shirt, looking at him angrily and disappointed.

"You let that bastard go and risked your little sister's life for a couple of gates?" he whispered angrily, not wanting to attract Raiha's attention.

Futarou looked at his father coldly, grabbing his wrist. "Who do you think I am? Of course I didn't. I just used that situation to my advantage. You already saw the results of what I did to that bastard."

"I have?" Isanari asked in a much calmer tone, slowly releasing Futarou.

Futarou just pointed towards the TV. "You just saw it on the news as soon as I came in."

"That was your doing?" Isanari asked incredulously.

Futarou scoffed. "That bastard went after my little sister. Like hell I was going to let him live."

"I see," he muttered. "And how are you feeling? You know, since this is the first time you... you know," he asked, making a swiping motion to his neck with his thumb.

Futarou shrugged. "I don't feel that bad about it. Like I said, he was going after my little sister. He was human trash. I didn't even see him as human, honestly."

Isanari sighed, closing his eyes and nodding his head. "So if everything is taken care of, why are you telling me? You could have just not said anything, and we would have moved on with our lives. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful you told me, but still, why?"

"I want to do something to prevent something like this from happening again. I plan to take you both to the spirit world and get you both spirits that will be able to protect you when I'm not around."

"Wouldn't it be too dangerous for us to go?" Isanari asked suspiciously.

Futarou shook his head. "Puck is very strong. With him around, it would be almost impossible for you guys to be hurt. And if Puck isn't enough insurance, there's also Tohru."

Isanari put on a pondering expression. "Very well. If it's for Raiha's safety, I'm willing to go."

Futarou nodded.

"But let's go tomorrow. It's already turning dark, Raiha is tired from school, I'm tired from work, and I'm sure with everything that just happened, you must be tired as well. So let's go when we're well-rested," Isanari suggested.

Futarou nodded in understanding. Isanari patted Futarou's back and went back to the living room, while Futarou did the same.

The next day...

Futarou came out of the shower wearing shorts with damp hair and a towel on his head after he finished his daily quest.

As he came out, he heard someone knocking on the door.

Confused, as he wasn't expecting visitors, Futarou went and opened the door. Outside were two police officers showing their badges. "Is this the Uesugi residence?"

"Yeah...?" Futarou asked suspiciously.

They nodded as they then asked, "So, are you Futarou Uesugi?"

Futarou nodded.

"You are under investigation for the involvement in Kai Mizuho's death. Please cooperate and follow us to the station where you will be asked a couple of questions."

"Sure, but are you sure you want to do that while I'm dressed like this? I also need to inform my father, so there's that if you guys don't mind waiting for a few seconds."

"Very well, we'll wait. Just don't try to escape, as that would be seen as an admission of guilt, and you would probably be prosecuted for it."

Futarou rolled his eyes. "Relax, I'm just going to get changed. I have nothing to hide."

After a few minutes, he came out dressed, with Puck on his head, who was looking at them in dissatisfaction.

"Well, then let's go," Futarou sighed without worry.

The two officers looked at each other for a few seconds before leading Futarou to their vehicles, where they drove off towards the station. Futarou just sat in the vehicle, looking out the window with a bored expression.

When they arrived, they escorted Futarou to an investigation room. It was just a regular plain grey room with a table, four chairs, and a crystal ball.

Before he went in, they showed Futarou the handcuffs. "These are needed for you to put on. It will disable your abilities."

Futarou just looked at them coldly, sending a shiver down their spines. "Here, I'm showing you my cooperation," he said in an equally cold voice.

Futarou then sat down and appraised the man, who had black hair and eyes and a no-nonsense type of expression, as he took a seat in front of him.

[Name: Shinichi Uso]

[Rank: D]

[Ability: Lie detector]

[Info: Due to the dangers of the dungeon and not believing he had enough strength, Shinichi Uso took on the job as a police officer as he believed that would be where his abilities would flourish.]

[Name: Lie detector]

[Rank: C]

[Description: Is able to tell when someone is telling the truth or lying.]

"Put your hand on the crystal ball. It will be able to tell whether you are telling the truth or lying. When it flashes green, that means you have told the truth, and when it flashes red, that means it's a lie," Shinichi commanded.

'Is there really a need for all of this insurance?' Futarou thought with a sigh.

"I like big booty Latinas," Futarou said, causing the light to turn green.

"Would you look at that, it does detect when I'm telling the truth."

Puck smacked the top of his head, telling him to get serious.

"Sorry, sorry," Futarou said, causing the light to turn red.

"Enough playing around. This is a serious matter," Shinichi said coldly.

Futarou just sighed. "Fine, let's just get this over with. I have things to do." The crystal ball glowed green at that, causing Futarou to give the officer a 'See' look.

"Did you kill Kai Mizuho?"

"No."

Green Light.

"Did you have contact with Kai Mizuho before his passing?"

"If you count beating the shit out of him contact, then yes."

Green Light.

"Did Kai Mizuho threaten you with your little sister?"

"Yes."

Green Light.

"Is that the reason your fight with him started?"

"Yes."

Green Light.

"Did you want to kill Kai Mizuho?"

"Yes."

Green Light.

"So did you do it?"

"No."

Green Light.

"Did one of your summons do it?"

"No."

Green Light.

"Did you influence him in any shape, way, or form to take his own life?"

"No."

Green Light.

"Did you truly decide to drop the matter for a couple of A and S rank dungeons?"

"Yes."

Green Light.

Futarou turned towards the one-way mirror, where officers and some viewers were looking inside. "Don't think I can't detect you watching, Tsunade. Just because he's dead doesn't mean our deal is over."

"Don't get sidetracked. I'm still asking the questions."

"Sorry."

Red light.

"Oops."

Red light.

"Are you happy that he is dead?"

"Ecstatic."

Green Light.

"Did you pay someone that would be able to influence him?"

"What kind of stupid question is that? I come from a poor family. Do you really think I would waste good money on trash like that? Plus, he was under your protection. You probably know about his death more than I do."

Blank.

"Answer the question."

"Ughh, No, I didn't pay someone to kill him."

Green Light.

"Do you have any idea why he would kill himself?"

"Yes."

Green Light.

"Oh... what is it?"

"He felt humiliated by the way I fought him, so he killed himself to save himself from the humiliation."

Green Light.

"Didn't the News mention a suicide note or something? If you want answers, study that," Futarou grumbled.

"It was mentioned that you patted his cheeks before leaving. Did you do anything while doing so?" "No."

Red light.

Futarou was confused seeing the red light. "Oh right, I did do something…"

Green Light.

"And what is it? What did you do?"

"I told him to stay away from my sister."

Green Light.

"Did you do ANYTHING else?"

"Nope."

Green Light.

Shinichi sighed before rubbing his chin. "Well then, I guess it really was a suicide. It's still fishy, but he was telling the truth. I didn't detect him lying during the important questions," he muttered before standing up and getting Futarou out of the cuffs.

"You are free to go. That would be all for the questioning. Sorry for the trouble, kid, but this is a really important matter. You can leave now."

"Who's going to take me home?"

"What?"

"You went to my house in the middle of the morning, got me in a car, and drove me here. Do you really think I want to walk all the way back on foot?" Futarou scoffed. "Just like how I was escorted here, I want to be escorted back."

"We're not a taxi service, kid. Just go home."

"Then you better pay for one."

A tic mark appeared on Shinichi's head hearing this.

Tsunade entered the room. "Don't worry, I'll take him home."

"She says that, but I bet she's going to secretly take me to her sex dungeon, which is something I really don't want."

Red light.

Futarou quickly took away his hand and got up. As he walked away, he turned back towards the officer and mouthed, "If I go missing, you know where to find me."

As they walked out, Tsunade sighed and apologized. "Sorry you had to go through that, but I needed to make sure. If you did do it, that would have meant you would have gone back on our deal. But since you didn't, that means I'll follow through on my end.

I don't think I'll be able to get you an S-rank Gate. Those are too valuable and spawn rarely, so I might not be able to get you one. Instead, I'll do this: I'll throw in an extra 2 A-rank Gate for the one S-rank," Tsunade proposed.

"As long as I get to go into dungeons, I'm fine with it," Futarou said as he got inside her car. After he gave her directions, they set off.

As they drove, Futarou looked out the window with a bored expression. After a few seconds, his eyes flashed red before returning to normal, causing him to smirk.

After dropping him off, Tsunade said, "I'll call you when I have everything ready. Be sure to pick up."

Futarou nodded and watched her leave.

"How did you do it?" Puck asked.

Futarou just smirked and started explaining, "I hypnotized myself into believing that I didn't do it using the reflection of the car window. The condition to undo it was to watch the reflection of eyes for more than 30 seconds."

"I've got to say, I'm very impressed," Puck nodded.

Futarou continued smirking as he went back inside so they could get ready to visit the spirit world.
