Baron Samedi

The sky turned dark, and water began to pour in.

Rain was an act of god for Felipe and Henry, reason? The Men hunting them decided to give up as the dogs lost all perception of a track, except one which separated from the pack.

"Huh." Felipe heard the rain nonstop—it was getting worse by the second.

"…What are we going to do?" Henry asked as he embraced his arms due to how cold everything had become despite the humid, warm temperatures.

'I can't go into hypothermia this way; it will be too embarrassing.' Felipe thought as his lower jaw began to bite on its own.

Felipe didn't say anything to Henry as doing so would be useless, a waste of breath.

"Keep going; if we keep going, our bodies will still be warm… if not, we will die out of coldness," Felipe said as he moved his arms as if they were a jacket and turned around to begin ascending one again.

They circled the mountain; they didn't want to go to the top but surround it at an elevated altitude.

The rain had made things all muddy, and though the mountain was not that muddy, it was still messy nonetheless—easier on their feet. Still, they almost fell every 10 steps, yet they didn't stop and just kept going.

"Fuck." Felipe slipped but cursed and closed his eyes briefly, trying to recuperate his composure.

"Felipe, Felipe!"

"I am okay, let's go."

--

4 hours later.

The rain developed into a thunderstorm. It was already pitch black, and they kept going at a lower speed as Felipe ensured they would not just go down alongside half of a mountainside.

"I am afraid," Henry said as he walked behind Felipe despite their age differences.

"If we don't move… we die… if we stay still, we die, so suck it up," Felipe said as he moved through the dense forest.

"..." Henry kept following as he had no choice; Felipe would leave him behind if he stopped. And it was scarier to be in the complete darkness alone than together. And due to the thunderstorm and because they were under the trees, they could only see their own way when lighting came from the heavens back to the ground.

1 hour passed, and they kept going steadily at their own pace.

There was a lot of wind though the ungodly amount of rain pouring didn't let the howls of wind nor the wood cracks be heard by Felipe or Henry.

They finally reached a part of the mountain with large trees and was relatively flat.

The tree tops don't let light hit the ground, creating an environment where only small plants can survive—giving them a rest from the constant scraping, harsh, and dense vegetation they encountered when they entered the mountains.

The lighting illuminated their path, but Felipe finally decided to rest his back muscles, putting his hands over his knees and letting his body weight be supported by his little arms.

"Felipe, let's rest," Henry said as his body was already giving up; his legs and muscles were hurting, and the fatigue was taking over him.

"…" Felipe looked at the small rivers of water going through the floor where no plants were. He just ignored Henry and caught his breath.

Out of now where he felt how the back of his shirt was gripped by two hands; there was so little delicacy that he felt the nails of the hands almost dig inside him.

Felipe knew it was Henry, none the less he looked back as he felt annoyed with the brat.

"What are you doing?"

"Th…. That… Aahhh!" At the same time, colossal lighting happened and made Henry even more scared.

They have been hearing and seeing thunders all along; aside from giving them a gloomy sensation, there was nothing to them; as a matter of fact, they would yearn for lighting as it would show them their path.

Yet, the lighting that landed nearby illuminated Henry's Face and showed his face of complete terror.

Henry went back multiple steps back as he dragged Felipe by his shirt. He was not able to scream.

Boooooommmmm.

The thunder of the lightning resonated. It was too close.

Felipe looked to the front again, and the slight heat inside his body left him as a wave of fear generated from the back of his neck.

It was no big cat but a child. A child likes them.

Felipe was able to see the silhouette of the kid without the need for lighting and understood very well the fear of Henry.

Pah!

Another lighting happened, this time far away, yet enough to illuminate Felipe's vision range.

The kid. The kid he had killed was in front of him, yet, his face was painted white, resembling a skull.

"Hehe hehe hehe." The kid started laughing madly as the thunder from afar drowned his laughter.

'Fuck fuck fuck.'

Felipe had no idea what was happening, but seeing the person he had just killed a few hours ago standing in the middle of nowhere made all his delicate body hair stand up.

Felipe and Henry would be a fish dish in a closed room if fear could be smelled.

Another lighting happened, this time much closer to them, instantly leading to a thunder strong enough to leave Felipe's ears ringing.

The lightning blinded him for a second which made him close his eyes.

He hoped that the child would be gone when he opened his eyes.

Instead of being of the child leaving, it was now 2 meters away instead of the 15 meters.

"He he he…." The child's voice had an echo and a profundity to it, clearly not the same as the child's that he slayed.

Felipe finally felt the hands clinging to his back release his shirt, Henry has fainted.

"… You…" Felipe filtered that word as so hesitated as his vision again fell to the black pitch of the night. He didn't know where he was, which terrified him even more.

He could feel very lively the waves of fear cruising through his body, making every hair follicle tense up and give him chicken skin.

"He he he he…."

Felipe heard the eerie laughter right in front of his face. Even though his first instinct would be to throw his head back, he didn't and just stayed there, petrified d as his body was experiencing new uncharted limits of fear that he could possibly feel.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM.

Felipe could see his face inches from him with the light of the lighting that felt a few meters away.

In that instant, he felt the entire weight of the child fall over his feet.

'Fuck.'

Aside from the ringing and the partial blindness from the lighting and thunder, there was only a dead body on the ground.

Crack crack.

The tree on which the lighting began to fall fell quickly, not threatening Felipe or Henry.

Felipe was still shell-shocked as he looked around, trying to think of anything, but his mind was blank.

Felipe was able to see the fire coming from the tree that fell. It was an inside fire in the tree.

"Fuck fuck fuck!"

Felipe quickly stood up again as he moved the body from his feet. He could feel Henry's legs, so he tried to push him, but it was impossible.

He decided to go on his own; he didn't care about the possibility of thunder but went right to stomp on the fallen tree, which was still on fire and put his hands over them.

His hands were all in an appalling state; the number of wounds combined with coldness and trembling made them look like a mess.

"Let there be light, let there be light," Felipe said as he prayed for the flames of the trees not to die out.

He didn't understand what had just happened and didn't want to understand what happened. The faster they leave the godforsaken mountain range, the better.

BOOOM!

Once again, the lighting came early close to them, but by now, he was accustomed to it; and even though the risk of being struck by lightning was high, he didn't leave and just kept hating his hands.

After he felt his hands were warm enough, Felipe looked back. He was withholding his breath and could see how the child he had slain previously was no longer on the ground but slowly walking away. Due to how fire light behaved, Felipe could only see very little detail on his back, but it was enough to make him feel fear once again.

"Your Time… Is long." The child said in a profound voice. "Yet, not infinite… he he he."

Felipe didn't fully know what he said but understood enough. But one thing is clear: It was not a child's voice.

"He he he he he." The laughter didn't resemble laughter anymore but just a chant. A weak chant that died out as the child left into the pitch-black forest.

Lmao, I scared myself while writing this. I hope I was able to transmit that sensation.
