Chapter 629 [ Great Gruen Volcano - IV ]

"I don't think that jumping onto a rock in the middle of the lava lake, was a good idea" - Shea said while looking around with a frown, after all, she couldn't make out anything in the distance, except lava.

"All other roads ended in dead ends" - Cloud replied with a frown.

"Ugh, right" - muttered Shea while frowning - "But how do we get out of here, if this is supposedly the only clear path?"

"Maybe we have to use gravity magic?" - Tio said as he cocked his head to one side.

"Hmm, it's possible" - muttered Cloud while looking at Yue, who quickly nodded. She without a second thought began to channel her mana and move the rock carefully, only to notice that as she began to perform this, a huge amount of fire beasts seemed to have been attracted - "Cloud."

"I'll handle it, you just concentrate on moving this rock enough so it can move forward smoothly" - Cloud calmly replied as he reached out his hand and pulled out his Railgun.

"Cloud, I don't think it's a good idea for you to use that in here" - Shea said with concern.

"Relax, I've got this little one at medium range, it won't hit the walls of the volcano" - Cloud answered honestly as he watched the first wave of enemy being a huge group of firebats.

He quickly pulled the trigger of his weapon, firing a powerful elemental laser that destroyed at least half of the enemies, though it didn't end there because Cloud moved his weapon, creating a beautiful and destructive arc of energy that followed the trajectory of the weapon, causing even more damage to the beasts.

"I didn't know you could do that" - said Tio with surprise.

"I can only when the power is at mid-range or lower" - Cloud replied as he continued to take out the bats before they could get within dangerous distance.

"Cloud, I hear more of those things coming!" - Shea exclaimed as she stretched out her long rabbit ears - "From the south!"

Cloud looked in the direction where Shea pointed, and noticed a huge black cloud slowly approaching in his direction.

"Do I take care of them?" - Tio asked as she cocked her head to one side.

"Sure" - nodded Cloud as he turned his attention back to the few remaining beasts from the annihilation he had caused.

Tio smiled slightly as she held out one of her hands - "Let's see how much they can resist this magic.... Michaelstrom!"

As the words left the black-haired woman's mouth, the volcano seemed to fall into a deep silence.

Cloud looked with interest in the direction of the black cloud that seemed to have stopped, only to notice how it seemed to disappear in a matter of a second - "What kind of magic was that?"

"Oh, it's a maximum rank wind element magic, [Maelstrom]" - Tio replied as she shrugged - "Basically, I use my mana as a catalyst to create a ground zero covered in sharp winds that destroy everything inside, though this magic uses more mana depending on the size of the ground zero."

"Interesting" - Cloud muttered before putting away his weapon because he noticed that the enemies had disappeared - "I guess we passed this test."

"I don't think it's that simple" - said Tio while frowning.

"Cloud, looked in that direction!" - Shizuku exclaimed as she pointed towards one of the volcano walls.

Cloud looked in the direction where his companion was pointing, and noticed there was a secret passageway leading to the staircase to the next floor - "You've got to be kidding me..."

"The path was being blocked by a heat-induced illusion" - Yue muttered neutrally as she tried to control the rock to move towards the edge, but for some strange reason, it didn't seem to accept her commands - "Cloud."

"I know, I can't use gravity magic either, or rather, gravity magic doesn't seem to be affecting this rock, it's like it's being controlled by another force" - Cloud replied with a cold face as he watched the right path slowly move away - "tio, do you think you can get us there?"

"I don't think so, the rock is starting to pick up speed and by the time it takes one, it's possible it will have lost the rest" - Tio replied with a frown.

"Kya!" - Shizuku exclaimed as she clung to Cloud with all her might because as Tio had said, the rock had started to speed up.

"I guess we'll just have to go on this way" - Cloud said as he clicked his tongue - "I just hope it's not a fucking dead end."

The girls said nothing, though this was because the heat was proving particularly insufferable.

"I don't think it's a dead end, in fact, I think it's something much worse" - Shizuku said with a pale face as she noticed them entering what seemed to be a long tunnel.

Shea raised her ears and her face also paled because she could hear of the falling liquid - "Cloud".

Cloud didn't answer, he just watched as the tunnel seemed like it would soon come to an end, and now they could all hear the sound of lava falling.

"Lava waterfall" - Shizuku muttered as she looked around - "I think this is as far as we've come".

"Don't be so pessimistic, remember we have gravity magic" - Shea said as she tried to calm the girl down.

Cloud kept his silence as he watched the tunnel end, leaving a huge cavern in sight.

"Get ready!" - Cloud exclaimed as the girls looked at each other, launching themselves directly at the blond.

Cloud was silent as his eyebrow twitched slightly because this wasn't the time for this shit.

The group shot out of the tunnel as they fell uncontrollably.

Shizuku screamed at the top of her lungs as Shea showed a worried expression because even though she had tried to calm her new companion down, she knew that gravity magic hadn't worked before, so maybe it was possible it wouldn't work now.

"[Zero Point]!" - Yue muttered as she used up much of her mana.

Cloud remained calm as he noticed how the rock hovered in the air, though his ears could pick up as Yue and Shea let out a sigh of relief.

The blond quickly looked around, and noticed how the deep cave, appeared to be a huge sea of lava with a few rock pillars surrounding what appeared to be a huge platform of hardened magma.

"Cloud, to the right you can see another platform that connects to some stairs" - said Tio as she pointed towards the place she had seen.

Cloud looked in that direction, and noticed this detail, so he quickly looked around to see if he could find another staircase.

"I think we took a shortcut" - Tio added while looking around. She quickly spread her wings and grabbed Shizuku, then flew in the direction where the stairs were.

Cloud kept alert because if this was the end of the maze, then it was obvious that there should be a guardian here, and from his experiences, these were the most annoying creatures that could exist.

The minutes continued to tick by as Tio continued to lead the others to the staircase platform, but Cloud was still vigilant because the guardian still did not appear.

"Cloud," Yue said as she pointed to the center, straight to the place where the hardened magma platform was. Above it, there was some kind of liquid lava dome - "I think we have to get to that place so we can end this."

Cloud didn't answer, he kept his eyes on the magma lake because his instincts told him that something was watching him.

"Cloud?" - Shea asked as she looked at the blond boy.

"Be careful," Cloud muttered as he noticed how at the end of the platform, there was some sort of lever. He frowned when he saw this because he was sure it was some sort of trap, or at least the signal to start this test.

"I guess we have to finish the job now" - Tio said while frowning because just like Cloud, she could feel how something was watching them, but what was worrisome was not that they were being spied on, but that it was more than one creature.

Cloud shook his head and walked over to the lever and activated it, only to see a strange bridge appear between the rock pillars, creating a path to the lava dome. The blond quickly glanced at his companions, especially Shizuku before stepping onto the bridge and making sure it was safe.

After running a few tests, he nodded in the direction of the girls, though just to be safe, he told Tio to protect Shizuku if anything happened to the bridge, after all, she was the normal girl in their monster group.

Shizuku was a little embarrassed about this, but at the same time this gave her the will to be able to grow up.

The group slowly advanced across the bridges until they reached the last pillar before the lava dome.

"Watch out!" - Cloud exclaimed when he noticed how the bridge that had led them there, fell into the lava, only for after a few seconds, the pillar to start shaking - "Here it comes!"
