Souls of the Damned

Many aeons ago, in a land filled with riches and abundance, where peace reigned unhindered by anything, lived a kind called A'Khina. The realm was painted with lush greenery, its meadows were filled with blooming colours, and its sun was just warm enough so everything could grow and thrive. Seasons changed, and a new ruler rose, determined to bring change into the realm and show her people that there was so much that they hadn't seen or experienced. She broke the sacred law that had kept her kind safe for such a long time and allowed for the very first entry into their realm to one other kind. One man from a realm filled with abundance brought with him sparkling stones and precious metals, which began to ornate the Queen's Palace and the homes of the A'khina. The man was a merchant, one of the lowest of his guild, and his name was N'gatarkan. Time passed, and the man was allowed entry once every season to bring in his precious stones in exchange for grains and food. He slowly began to earn their trust, and with each visit, he found out more about the realm, and the more found he began coveting the power that made that realm so special. Many seasons passed, and he began planning and scheming an uprise and taking the power that he wanted for himself, and with it, the demise of an entire kind began, and he became the first of his kind. Aeons passed once more, and peace reigned in the realm until one day, the power he had coveted for himself, others wanted it just like he did. And a silent war began between what they called the First One and the powerful entities that desired to wield that power. To save his people and himself, he returned to his roots and bargained his precious life and the power he held in exchange for the safety of his kind, the sithrians. Until one day, when a girl was born unlike any other of her kind, with her white hair and sparkling emerald green eyes that held the promise of change but also led to her kind's demise once more. Just As Crazy!

Rom sat on the edge of the bed and looked at his sister and the mountain of a man Dak was and couldn't help but wonder what would happen once his sister woke and found out that Sylus was gone. He could only imagine the grief and pain she would go through and how Dak would have to deal with a woman who had given her heart to someone else.

A soft knock on the door broke the silence, making Rom turn his attention to the door while Rhya appeared in the room with a bright smile.

" I'm here to check on Maya!" Rhya said softly while stopping next to the bed and carefully looking at her bandages, once in a while glancing at Rom.

" How long will it take for her to wake up?!" Rom absently asked while getting up from the bed and looking around the luxurious room.

"It could be days or a week! Her wounds are severe, and they were meant to kill! I'm surprised she is still alive!" Rhya replied while going around the bed and arranging Maya's pillow.

" I'm in the chamber across the corridor; if you need anything, come and fetch me!" she informed while walking out of the room.

" I'll stay with her for now; you can go !' Rom huffed while making his way to the bed and sitting on it.

Dak chuckled " You should speak with the King first before you do anything else. He is already displeased with you, and I don't think that holding details from him would do you any good!" he smirked while pulling a chair and plopped himself in it.

"Where can if find him?" Rom asked, stepping outside the chamber and looking left and right to see which way to go.

" He is probably doing the same as me, keeping vigil over his beloved in one of the chambers in this corridor!" he informed, looking over his shoulder to Rom, not bothering to get up to show him the way.

Rom scoffed and walked out of the room, wandering through the corridors, hoping to find someone to point him in the right direction or maybe Ian himself.

He wondered what had happened to the Queen, thinking that maybe she had lost the child and fallen ill.

He shook his head at his thoughts; he knew their kind wouldn't succumb that easily to that kind of illness; despite their gentle and kind nature, they were more potent than any other being in the realm.

" Who are you?" the voice of a young man echoed in the back of his head, making him turn around to see who it was.

When his eye fell on the young man with platinum blonde hair and blue eyes, Rom narrowed his eyes, trying to understand who the young man in front of him was.

Rom cleared his throat " Rom! I'm looking for the king?" he curtly replied while taking a step closer, so he could look better.

The young man looked down at his feet " What do you want with him?" he probed for more answers while lifting his head to look at him.

" I need to speak with him about my findings?" he vaguely replied, avoiding looking at the young man while his eyes travelled everywhere in the corridor, looking for anything that might indicate where he could be.

" He is with my mother!" the young man curtly replied while pointing behind Rom.

" Your mother? The Queen?" he asked in disbelief, trying to confirm whether he heard right or not

The young man nodded and took a step closer to Rom, opening the palm of his hand, and a sword made of fire appeared in his hand " I've heard about you; you already tried to kill her once! Why should I let you breathe the same air as she does!" he calmly stated while raising his sword and cutting a strand of Rom's hair.

Rom gulped. Now, he had met their kind before, but none of them could do anything like that; they were strong, and they could manipulate the elements to their will, but there was something different about the young man sitting in front of him. The glint of wickedness and madness in his eyes told him that he was more dangerous than any of his kind, and he felt that whatever happened on the castle grounds, he was the cause.

The sound of the door opening broke the staring contest between the two men, making them turn their attention that way.

" Azra put your sword down!" Ian's voice boomed in the corridor, making Azra extinguish his fire sword and walk past Rom glaring at him.

" Shouldn't you be with your sister?" Ian questioned while walking past Azra, stopping next to Rom.

" I need to speak with you first!" he said while pushing his thumb in his strap belt.

" What is it?" he curiously asked while raking his hand through his hair, thinking that the man in front of him brought trouble wherever he went and that whatever he had to say wasn't good.

" The woman that the witch possessed doesn't know how to break the bond, but her teacher might know! He lives in the northern territories, in a village called Gaerwen, where Dak comes from." Rom cut the story short, thinking he could go over the details later when they could have a proper conversation.

" Hmm...that is not helping! The journey to the northern territories will take too long, and now thanks to you, we lost our last safe haven. The witch won't waste any more time before she sends more puppets to end us!" he reasoned while rubbing the back of his head, trying to find a solution since the forest wasn't safe for any of them anymore. Still, he didn't want to run away; he had had enough of hiding and running away. Seth was right; it was time for them to fight back and take the fight to the witch.

" I need to go back to my hut and get some herbs that I need. I will give you a list of what kind and how. much to bring!" Ian said in a sullen tone while looking at the ground, hoping that Iris would wake up soon since he felt his heartbreak over and over every time he looked at her.

Rom nervously chuckled and cleared his throat; now he was in deep trouble since he had burned the hut down with Sylus in it, and by now, it would be just a pile of burned wood.

" The hut was burned down!" he stated in a serious tone, avoiding saying that it was him that set fire to it. He could feel cold sweat trickling down his back at the thought of what he would do to him if he found out that he did it.
