1 Chapter 1: The Accident

Soul is the very core of a person. It is the life force that gives life and identity to the human body. Soul exists inside the physical body and extends itself outside in the form of aura. The aura is a shade of different colors that symbolizes the feeling or mood of a person. If the person is feeling happy, the dominant color of their aura is yellow, and it changes depending on the person's feelings isn't it cool?

They say that everyone was born with their own unique prints in their souls, and these prints dictates your destiny, your future and your fate. Some also say that we are the ones making these prints and we are the only ones capable of changing and making our future. For me? I would rather think that I am in control of my own life than knowing that I am just following a script created by my soul. But to be honest? I don't really know; soul is a very complex thing and a very powerful one – much powerful than our minds. My mind might not be as powerful as our souls, but my eyes are powerful enough to see a portion of it, in the form of aura.

Seeing aura is a cool thing, but you know what 's not cool? Not being able to control it. It's cute, it's colorful, it's like seeing rainbows on everyone that follows them around as if there was a pot of gold inside them. But it is so distracting. It is hard to focus when you see everyone is glowing like Christmas lights especially when you are trying to pay attention in class, watching tv or simply just walking across the street. It also feels like I am invading everyone's privacy. Because of this ability, I do not have many friends and I do not interact with people very much. Other than being distracting it also reminds me of my past.

My name is Nicholas, Nick for short. I am 18 years old today, December 9, 2019. I am writing this down as a memory of my late father, 9 years after he passed away, 9 years after that incident.

When I was young, I had a troubled childhood. We were poor, my mother has mental problems and was locked in a mental hospital. My father was an alcoholic and has no job. Well, my father had a job before, but he was caught stealing money, so he got fired and spent 6 months in jail. After he was sentenced, nobody hired him again because of his criminal records. Despite of unfortunate things that had happened we were still lucky to have Uncle Ben -- my uncle in my mother's side. He would always visit me and take me to park or restaurants. For me, my uncle is my guardian angel. However, on the night before my 9th birthday, my guardian angel was not there to save me.

On the night of December 8, 2010, it was almost midnight, my uncle arranged a birthday celebration for me from the city where he lives. My dad and I was on the road to his place. We were in the car that Uncle Ben gave us, my dad was driving, and I am sitting at the passenger's seat. Everything was dark and quiet, the only thing I can hear was the static noise on the radio and my dad randomly telling me how excited he was. Before we reach the city, we have to climb a mountain that separates the city from our town. As we were climbing up the road, I was looking at the window. All I see was the never-ending road and the woods below us. As I was looking, I remember the legend about that forest, they said that a fairy lives there and fulfills wishes but there were also rumors that the fairy herself was actually death and that every wish she fulfills comes with a great sacrifice.

After moments of silence my dad suddenly broke the silence, "You know how much I love you right?". He squeezed my hand and patted my head, "I might not be the perfect father but I'll make sure that you'll have a perfect life, and I'll do everything it takes to make up for all of my failures as your father". The sincerity in his eyes made me do nothing but smile. I was surprised, we never really talked a lot and that was the first time I heard him say that. "You know what, life is just a never-ending adventure of finding happiness", he said. "And I hope you find yours", he added before he focused his attention on driving. I smiled back at him and said, "I will, dad".

After a few minutes, I fell asleep. I had a dream that I was in a house. I have never been to that house before, but I feel like it is home. As I was walking up the stairs, I saw all these portraits hanged on the wall. Photographs of people I do not know. As I was stepping my foot slowly from the stairs, I hear different voices coming from the pictures. I feel like they are asking me to take them with me. However, before I could touch one, I saw someone hurriedly walking to a room. It was a young beautiful woman in her early twenties writing something in a book. I followed her as she went on the room, her face was filled with joy and I can feel the whole room radiates with it. But suddenly I feel like something is not right. The whole room suddenly changed; it was now a broken room in an abandoned house. The woman was gone, and the room feels dead. The room might look abandoned, but the book was still there. I walked towards the book. As I walked closer to it, I realized it was not just a simple book. It was a diary.

Before I could open the diary, I woke up from a loud noise. It was a from a car in front of us. "Dad, what's happening?", I said nervously. "I-I think that car is losing its control and so are ours. We need to leave the car, Now!" before we could leave I suddenly felt frozen, my dad was shouting at me but I cannot hear anything, the headlights of the car is blinding, it almost feel like it was calling for me, and I feel completely relaxed. I can feel my dad's arms wrapped in me, it shook me back to reality but it was too late. The last thing I heard was my dad's voice saying, "I love you" and that was the last time I heard that from him.
