44 The Highest Score

Since Yami had a small frame, Ma Song didn't see him among his trainees. They went toward the third floor of the building and into another training room.

"We have arrived!" Ma Song stated after they fully entered the room and was standing at the entrance.

Yami was amazed at the vast room; there were three virtual combat rooms inside and a place where you could watch the ongoing battles.

"Our first training will be against the Raiders inside those rooms," Ma Song explained and heard gasps from the trainees around. "Don't be afraid. Our base mana generates the Raiders to accumulate the points you'll earn."

"Senior, a battle on the first day?"

"This is unexpected, Senior!"

The trainees complained and cried at the situation they were not prepared for. Yami was stunned, but it didn't surprise him since he expected some actions on the first training day.

"Ha! Those kittens are so scared of automated Raiders," a prideful voice was heard from behind, followed by a group of laughter.

Yami glanced at them and saw three men with arrogant faces while they looked at the other worried trainees. He shrugged it off since he had no time for that kind of kid and wanted to focus on the training.

"These rooms have abundant mana, which means you won't run out of personal mana and get hurt. So fight to your heart's desire," Ma Song gave a thumbs up and led the trainees to the waiting area.

"Today, you'll be fighting a beginner-level raider you're all familiar with. Although, the size has been changed to a more undersized for training purposes."

Yami glanced at the virtual rooms where the soul beast Nivi replica appeared. 'It'll be easy,' he thought with a smirk.

"That Raider doesn't possess greater offense, but higher in defense due to its scale. Each trainee will fight the Raider within five minutes, and the sooner you beat it, the higher score you can get," Ma Song explained and ensured that his words were clear. "Now, let's begin and aim for a higher score!"

Everyone cheered with enthusiasm.

Ma Song took out a piece of paper with the list of the Marksman and Assassin trainee candidates and called them alphabetically to fight against the Soul Beast Nivi.

Yami sat at the highest part of the bleachers to watch the other trainees and analyze their skills. After all, he needed to fight against them at the ranking tournament and win to gain more points.

Some trainees used a gun to fire bullets at a given distance to kill the Nivi. Some were using a dagger or sword to pierce through the thick scale.

'Most had scored more than a minute,' Yami thought while looking at the timer in each room. Most trainees killed the Soul Beast around two to three minutes.

'I'll make it less than a minute,' Yami thought when the crowd exclaimed in awe. He looked at the center room and saw one of the arrogant kids with a gun finished the Soul Beast at 59 seconds, which was the highest score then.

"Woah, you are so strong, Gang!" one of his friends exclaimed.

Gang scoffed with fixed his hair arrogantly before returning back to his seats. The other trainees flocked around him for insights and tips on how to kill the Soul Beast faster.

Yami looked at him with a deadpan expression. He was not amazed at the score, even if its the highest one. For him, it was still longer.

"Yin Ying!" Ma Song called and looked straight at Yami with raised eyebrows. "You are finally here."

"I am," Yami smiled and waved at Ma Song before he entered one of the virtual rooms and activated his stringer in his right hand. He only used one since he didn't want them to know all his cards since he would still compete with them later.

'Should I end this instantly or hide my skills?' Yami thought before a Soul Beast Nivi appeared before him and roared as if it were real.

"Whatever, I'll just see what I can do with this thing," Yami muttered. He wasn't nervous and launched an attack when the timer started counting. Yami also wanted to see his capabilities without using the soul ring's power and the points he would gain.

Yami jumped toward the Soul Beast's head and went through its body with his stringers slicing the scales. He ended at the back and looked back at his result.

The crowd was silent that you could hear the sound of a pin drop. Yami went out of the room and looked at the timer on the side. His eyes bulged at what he had seen.

"Three seconds! That's our new highest score!" Ma Song exclaimed in shock and looked at Yami with surprise.

"Eh, do it again! There must be something wrong with the timer!" Gang stated and crossed his arms. He didn't like the idea that someone was more substantial than him.

Yami stared at Gang with a blank expression. He didn't want to prove himself again since he had already gathered too much attention to himself.

"Our timer is perfectly functional," Ma Song stated. He didn't like how they became suspicious of the timer just because someone got a higher score than them. "There are several Combatants with less than ten-second score before."

Yami tapped Ma Song's shoulder to stop the situation from escalating. "I'll do it again if they wanted me to."

"Ying," Ma Song looked at Yami for a few seconds before nodding and notifying the working agents for Yami to refight the same Soul Beast.

Yami glared at Gang before he entered the virtual room again. He wanted to prove his skills and shorten the kill this time.

'I hope this will bring me positive results,' Yami thought before he dashed toward the Soul Beast with all his strength and sliced its body in half.

The cheers of amazement and disbelief echoed inside the training room.

"0.6 seconds! We have a new high score!" Ma Song said with pride as he announced Yami's score.
