110 Pink Macarons and Purpose (1/3)

Loma mistakenly thought she could make herself feel useful while Alaric was gone by baking some pink macarons to take to Wren when she visited later. She knew how much he liked sweets, and she thought the cookies might serve as a small distraction while Rowan slept off the effects of his magic.

Instead she'd spent the entire morning in front of the oven, ruining batch after batch until she was beginning to think she should just set the kitchen on fire and watch it burn.

After years of practice, she was pretty damn good at burying her painful emotions, but things were different now. It wasn't just about her sickness anymore. Loma felt like the entire world was falling apart, and all she could do was watch while others tried to fix it.

Every time she threw a tray of ruined macarons in the trash, the same thought surfaced over and over…why couldn't she help fix things, too?
