Chapter 1 Lost Memory

In a small room that looked very antique styled.

"Um! Why does my head hurt?" A youth complained slightly as he gently sat up from the bed he laid on. He raised an arm up and rubbed his aching head that was still pounding slightly.

He turned his head left and right to examine his surroundings. However, everything came out blurry as his vision was a bit clouded due to the dizziness he was feeling.

His eyelids twitched slightly as he looked forward and waved his hands. Despite his blurry vision, he could still faintly make out a few things.

As his vision cleared up, he was finally put at ease once again to see that he was in the old, familiar room he was used to.

The room was small and plain. There were no luxurious designs or special materials. Hell, there was only a table, a bed, and a couple of other things within the room.

It was the classic look of a small apartment that could only be found in the slums.

However, although this room was plain, it was comfortable to him who had been living here for the past three weeks.

The sight of the medieval, ancient antique apartment was soothing to the soul. There wasn't much he could actually set his eyes on except the window.

"Oh! Ning'er is gone!" He exclaimed lightly as he nodded his head in understanding. His brain still ached as little as he staggered from the bed to get on his feet.

Looking outside the window, he sighed deeply as the rain poured down in torrents and the occasional flash of thunder brought about a bit of light to the dark and gloomy room.

The thunder flashed only for a second, but that was more than enough to show a glimpse of the youth's face that was shrouded in the darkness.

From his short, dark hair to his fair yet pale skin, his dark purple eyes stared into the distance as his lips curled upward to form a satisfactory smile. A bit of rain poured on his pale face as he stood near the window gazing at the dark, gloomy sky that was completely covered by the rainstorm.

If one didn't know him, based on his pale complexion and sickly looking body, one would think he was a lecherous young master who liked to indulge himself.

He held on to the windowsill with a firm grip lest something happen to him causing him to fall down.

However, he suddenly sighed as a self depreciating expression appeared on his face.

"Time is almost up, and my condition is getting worse and worse. Now, I can't even go out anymore".

Shaking his head, he looked at the rainstorm that was getting fiercer and fiercer by the minute. It looked like a thunder God was having a rather gloomy day as the rain fell.

There had been constant occasions where rain fell heavily over the past few days. It was so heavy that no one would be able to tell the actual time of the day.

Ru Chan was seemingly astounded by the weather. However, he had bigger things to worry about presently

"System Screen". He said to himself inwardly. A screen suddenly appeared before his eyes.

<< 00:00:13:37 >>

"Only thirteen minutes left, huh?" Ru Chan thought as he stared at the countdown. It took him a while for him to get used to being able to see numbers no one else could see, but he was now used to it.

After all, numerous strange things had been happening to him for a few weeks now, ever since he woke up in this very same room.

When he woke up, he was left without his memories. He remembered clearly that no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remember anything past the day he woke up.

Try as he might, it was a pity that his memories were void. However, he had moved on from that matter rather quickly. This was because the most important issue was his immediate situation.

About three weeks ago, he learned that he was found beaten up and was on the verge of dying. Thereafter, even though his body wasn't in any immediate danger, it didn't mean that he was completely fine either.

His body condition was fragile, maybe as a result of the brutal experience, which he couldn't remember.

He even figured out that that cause of his lost memories was because of such an issue. So every day for the past few weeks, his physical body constitution was in a constant state of slow deterioration.

His physique was so horrible that just standing near the window just like he was doing currently on a rainy day was a risky game.

If his luck was even slightly worse, he could die from catching a common cold.

As for what would happen after the countdown was over, he didn't have a clue. Perhaps, it was this countdown that was the cause, and it signified his time to die.

He inhaled sharply after asking himself that question again for what would be the 80th time in three weeks.

Nevertheless, he didn't have a say in the matter, as it's not like he could change anything even if he wanted to.

Plus, when he thought about it, it wouldn't be a bad thing if he died anyway. Because with his current weak state, surviving in this world was close to impossible.

How could a no name mortal survive in the world of cultivators? It was practically seeking death without having to actually do anything.

Not to mention the War between the humans and demons...

"Heaven help me". He suddenly felt a headache come over him as he massaged his temples. In this world, humans weren't the ruling figures.

At least he could still reason and beg for his life if he encountered a powerful human cultivator, but what about demon cultivators, devil cultivators or those fierce beasts in the dark forest?

What would happen if the city suddenly encountered a Monster tide? In the present era, humankind and the other races were basically at each other's throats.

Wars and battles occurred frequently, with thousands of innocent civilian lives being lost. Those were ordinary people who had normal physiques, much less him, who had a much weaker constitution.

He had no money, no possessions, no strength, and he didn't have any memories of his past to determine as he had any remarkable background to lean on. Even if he did, there was no way they would want someone as useless as him.

The only reason he was still alive was because of the kindhearted person who had saved him and given him a place to live.

If not, he would have died this day three weeks ago. However, even that saving grace wouldn't last too long.

The youth closed the window to prevent the cold from infiltrating the place. If he really died from a common cold, then he wouldn't be able to cry in the afterlife.

After closing the window, he walked towards the stool and table as he sat down. The room was lit by a small lantern that provided a small source of lighting to the shabby looking apartment.

Sighing, he pulled out a small, dark brown book with a worn out cover and slightly torn pages. Flipping the book open, he studied it intensely with a serious gaze as if his whole life depended on it.

To be honest, that deduction wasn't far off.

Reading the book earnestly, a complicated expression appeared on his face after reading for five minutes. The youth tore his gaze away from the book that couldn't really be considered a book and looked more like a slightly larger manual.

On the book cover were the written words, [Basic Qi Gathering Manual]

He carefully covered the book and placed it back in its original position as if protecting a valuable treasure. After all, this book was probably the most expensive object in the entire house and was considered the prized possession of his benefactor.

And for someone in his condition, he could definitely relate.

Closing his eyes, he sat with both his legs crossed as an uncomfortable frown appeared on his face. Just the process of folding his legs ached this much.

However, he endured as he steeled his resolve through gritted teeth.

"Try again!" Inwardly encouraging himself, he steadied his breathing as he began to follow the instructions on the manual. Slowly, a minute passed, followed by another.

Soon, seven whole minutes had passed, but the youth hadn't made even the slightest movement. His heart became anxious once again as his expression became ugly.

After a few more minutes, he sighed deeply and opened his eyes.

"Another failure, my body has no reaction to the natural Qi around me". He said to himself as frustration appeared on his face.

According to the manual, if he couldn't feel the Qi in the atmosphere, the meaning was elementary and could be accurately deduced.

Which was that he had no talent for cultivation. Or to put it in cultivation terms, his innate spirit core was too low and could be considered worthless.

If he was unable to cultivate, then he would, sooner or later, die in this world. Maybe due to some unpleasant natural disaster or catching a cough or disease from someone's sneeze.

His heart was filled with unwillingness. If not for the kind woman who saved him, he would already be dead. However, even that miracle wouldn't last forever, as there was a high chance that his bad days were about to get even worse.

Unlike him, his benefactor could feel the Qi in the air and could already absorb it into her body. This meant that although he was fated to have nothing to do with cultivation, she had a talent for it, not to mention the fact that she already had plans.

Three days from now, she would leave for the sect entrance tests. If she were selected, then what would he do? Who would take care of him? There was no way that she could bring a deadweight such as himself.

"Why! Why am I so weak?" He exclaimed through gritted teeth. He didn't realize while he was venting his frustration that a considerable amount of time had passed while he was trying out his last ditch effort in cultivation.

At that moment, the ground suddenly shook fiercely and the bed and table in the room suddenly moved improper. The quaking threw the male who was about to get back on his feet to the floor.

Seeing that the bed was moving because of the sudden earthquake and was about to move and crush him, his eyes widened, and he quickly rolled to the side without even thinking of his aching body.

BANG!!! The bed tipped over and landed loudly on the floor. Luckily, the male was no longer there as he narrowly managed to escape from further pain. He suddenly clutched his head as he felt the headache increase a couple of notches.

His face turned pale, and he resisted the urge to faint with all his might.

The earthquake shook the mountains and the seas raged fiercely. Powerful Ether beasts and Demon beats who were used to showing their might and arrogance trembled fiercely as they rapidly went into hiding.

In the wilderness, large cracks appeared in the dry soil, causing a thousand meters deep chasms to appear in multiple areas.

Volcanoes, earthquakes, Tsunami's..... Literally Armageddon.

A terrifying aura spread throughout the lands, causing several powerful cultivators in their peaks to frown and look at the sky solemnly.
