44 Good Mood

In the morning, Yuan Shun opened his eyes. He found Shi Yen curled against him, hugging his body with an arm and leg wrapped around him tightly. She breathed deeply; her expression opened wide, vulnerable, and trust for him.

Yuan Shun flushed, not expecting her to be the cuddling type.

He reached out to rake a hand through the threads of her dark hair, feeling the texture of her beautiful mane. She was in his arms as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

He felt Shi Yen shift awake, rubbing her eyes, lifting her head to face him.

Yuan Shun grinned at her sheepishly. She blushed, burying her face in his chest. She hid her expression, and Yuan Shun chuckled, squeezing her tight. "You're very adorable," he said to her with the deep tone of the morning.

Shi Yen then reached out to kiss him, fast and deep. She invaded his mouth, plunging her tongue through until he growled deep in his throat. "What was that for?" he panted slightly.

"To quiet you," she whispered hoarsely.

"Why?"

Shi Yen pursed her mouth, and her face turned red. "I'm not used to anyone speaking to me like this…you're very…passionate."

Yuan Shun smiled. He then kissed her tenderly on her head. "I'm going to spoil you, my darling."

Shi Yen looked at him with a sad, unexplainable expression. And it made him wonder if she was afraid?

Yuan Shun pecked her lips gently, and Shi Yen gave herself to him. She toppled over him, responding to the kiss, taking over. Her tongue curled over his, moaning his name as he gripped her hips.

The sun had peaked and cast through the room brightly when Shi Yen stopped to ask, "What time is it?"

"It's almost lunch," Yuan Shun said with a grin.

Shi Yen's eyes widened, and she detached herself from him.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

Shi Yen thought about it for a moment. "Nothing…For a moment, I felt like we'd get in trouble if caught, and then I reminded myself that we're adults."

Yuan Shun laughed. "Is it because you grew up with strict parents?" And then he realized that he had touched a forbidden subject.

But Shi Yen chuckled and said, "Yes. I did. My father spent years trying to scare off Fang Qi from being my friend." She then paused, pondering over the memory. "They were strict, but they didn't suffocate me. My parents only wanted what was best for me, and I always appreciated how much they loved me."

Yuan Shun reached out to take her hand, running small circles over her palm with his thumb.

Shi Yen sucked in a breath, giving out a small grin. "I haven't talked about them in such a long time…thank you."

Yuan Shun gave out a sad smile. "I'm here...if you ever want to talk about them again."

Shi Yen pounced at him, hugging him tightly. "Let's wash up and meet with the others."

Yuan Shun took her face in his hands, kissing her lips, not wanting to leave the bed. "I will see you downstairs."

Reluctantly, he stirred out of the covers, heading over to his room to wash up and change. He then went down the stairs to meet with everyone else who was eating in the kitchen.

Fang Qi then looked at him, grinning ear to ear.

Yuan Shun rolled his eyes, taking a seat at the table by Fang Qi. He caught a glimpse of Shi Yen, fully-dresses, eating at the end with Yuan Xinyi and Shi Ailin.

Fang Qi then pointed at him, and whispered, "I went to wake you this morning. You weren't there, and your bed was so clean." He winked.

Yuan Shun glared at him, and it was the end of the conversation.

"Yen. You look like you're in a good mood," Shi Ailin said.

"How can you tell?" Yuan Xinyi questioned. "Her face is always serious—no offence, Yen."

Shi Yen smiled. "None taken."

"Anyways," Shi Ailin continued. "We're going to the beach. Do you want to come?"

Shi Yen nodded. "Of course. I'll go change." She then stood up and left.

Shi Ailin then announced to the others that she and Yuan Xinyi were going to head to the beach. Luo Tian, Luo Wanting, and Fang Qi all stood up, heading over to the screen doors. "We're going too."

Fang Qi turned when he noticed that Yuan Shun remained seated. "Are you coming?"

"I'm going to wait for Yen. We'll meet you there."

Fang Qi then shot him a knowing grin, which caused Shi Ailin's eyes to widen. Was Yuan Shun dating her sister?

She gaped at Yuan Xinyi, who mirrored her expression. They both smiled, leaving Yuan Shun behind.

At the beach, Fang Qi put on sunscreen, and then he laid down on his front. "Xinyi," he called out. "Can you put some on my back?"

Yuan Xinyi crossed her arms. "Why would I want to do that?"

Fang Qi was taken aback. "Are you still mad at me? I don't even know what I did."

"Yes, because you're an idiot that never sees anything wrong when it comes to you."

Fang Qi narrowed his eyes. "Fine, then," he responded with irritation. "Ai, can you help me?"

Shi Ailin gaped. "I—"

"I'll do it," Yuan Xinyi changed her mind.

Fang Qi then shot her a smug grin and Yuan Xinyi spat a curse before she sat behind him, rubbing sunscreen onto the skin of his back.

Yuan Shun and Shi Yen had come down to the beach with their swimwear, holding hands. Both of them always looked so formidable and defiant—but together, they were so powerful and regal. It made Shi Ailin shiver.

She then grinned as she watched them enter the water. But then it seemed that they had challenged each other to a swim race, because they ran until they were knee-deep in the ocean, and they splashed across with their arms fanning the water.

Shi Ailin laughed at them, digging her hand into the sand, running it through her fingers.
