1 The Weakest Hunter

Chapter 1

Jarred Rivera is a well-known hunter, not because his hunting abilities are excellent, but rather because he is a rank E hunter, the lowest rank available to hunters.

The "weakest among the weakest" is another moniker for him.

The other hunters will always make fun of him because of who he is, no matter where he goes.

A face that is famished, has a small frame and is lacking in equipment. Even if he passes away right now, you won't be surprised.

Though he smiled and seemed not to notice, deep down he was hurt, not by the ridicule, but by the knowledge that he is frail.

Not only weak but the weakest of the weak.

Even in tier-E dungeons, he constantly receives an injury as he enters the dungeon to hunt.

"Were you injured again, Jarred? Why don't you stop being a hunter? You won't last here, you know. I'm just worried because you're so frail."

The hunter says this while making fun of him and laughing aloud.

The other hunter heard it as well and made fun of him.

"I can't. I need to make some money." he replied, smiling at them.

He then remembered his mother, who had been admitted to the hospital for a medical condition.

The condition that Jarred's mother has is known as Mana Deficiency.

Mana deficiency is an illness caused by the magical stones and hunters around you. Being an ordinary person with no abilities makes it easy to catch this type of illness,

but if identified early enough, you can be healed for a large sum of money.

You'll experience Deep Sleep if the sickness is not treated.

Deep Sleep is the condition of someone who has Mana Deficiency.

Although having this condition is the same as being dead, it is a long sleep from which you will never awaken.

However, with the aid of a machine, it is possible to temporarily extend its life.

There is no evidence that a person with mana deficiency awoke.

Due to the fact that there is currently no known cure, numerous researchers and experts have attempted to examine this sickness and discover a treatment, but have been unsuccessful.

However, he had heard a rumor from the hunters that claimed there was a treatment for this disease. He had heard about a miracle potion.

There is no proof that this potion exists, that it has not appeared on the surface.

He believes there is a cure for his mother and is determined to make it a reality.

"Thank you for your hard work." he said as he bowed and began to walk away from them.

Then it began to rain, and he stopped. He bowed his head, and tears streamed from his eyes.

"Why am I so weak? Why am I so different from others?" he asked himself before crying out loudly, unaware of his surroundings.

After a few minutes, the rain stopped. He then noticed an elderly woman attempting to cross the street.

He wiped away his tears and rushed over to the elderly lady.

"Ma'am, are you all right? Let me help you."

"You're really generous." The elderly lady responded.

He returned her smile after she grinned.

...and then, unexpectedly,

Someone yelled, "Watch out! There's a truck!"

Crash

The truck was already close to Jarred when he noticed it. He shoved the elderly lady away from him, and the truck ran over him.

Baaang!

Thud

"Aahh, it hurts. I don't want to die. Please help me." crying and bleeding horribly.

Tears streamed from his eyes as he realized he was in his final moments.

He remembered his family's faces. He also remembered the anxious, concerned look on his sister's face.

"I don't want to die..."

He didn't want to end his twenty-five years of life. It's unfortunate that even he is aware that in a matter of seconds, his life will end.

"Mom, I'm sorry; Hana, I'm sorry." he cried.

Then he checks on the elderly lady. When he turned his head and saw the old lady, he breathed a sigh of relief because she was fine.

but...

He noticed the old lady was suspiciously grinning at him. He was taken aback by the elderly lady.

"I found you!" exclaims the elderly lady.

He then died the moment he heard those words.

***

He tragically passed away, but

"What the—?" he said.

The moment he woke up, he was drenched in sweat and running out of breath.

"haa.. haa.."

Jarred miraculously awoke in his bed with a bewildered expression, and he touched his body to check for injuries after being hit by a truck.

"What the heck was that? I'm sure I died!" He's perplexed by what's happening to him.

"Was that a dream?" he wondered, grabbing for his head as if he had a headache.

"It wasn't a dream."

He realized that the voice was one that he was quite familiar with and had heard in his frightful dream.

He turned to look, and there was the old woman standing by his side, grinning at him.

"Eeek! uhwaaaa!!"

He yelled with a terrified expression as a result of what he could still recall.

"Don't be surprised, young man." she advised.

"Everything that happened to you is true." she explained.

"Wh-who are you and what are you doing here in my room?" He asked her with a terrified look on his face.

"It doesn't matter who I am or what I'm doing here; the fact that you're alive is because of me," she remarked arrogantly.

'What's wrong with her?' he thought.

"No, I don't believe you; it was all a dream!" he exclaimed.

"..."

"Even now it's a dream." he said, pinching his cheeks.

"Ouch!" he exclaimed, feeling the sting of pain as tears welled up in his eyes.

"What the hell are you doing?" asked the elderly lady, helplessly staring at him.

"Don't be an idiot. I'll explain what happened to you; for the time being, try to relax," she advised.

"You truly died at that time."

Jarred's face was so surprised by what he heard that his eyes became huge and his mouth opened wide.

"You were destined to die back then, but I pulled you back from the dead and traveled across time using my powers."

She uses her powers to bring Jarred back and time travels to the past to explain everything to him.

She also stated that she made the decision because of his generosity at the time, but this is not totally correct.

The reality is that she had picked up on something special about him. An unexplainable particular kind of power. But she kept this information from him.

'Is that all? It's a little suspicious.'

Jarred thought, staring at her suspiciously.

"What? You don't believe me?" she asked, raising her eyebrows.

"Eh? No! I believe you!" he exclaimed, staring away from her.

"Sigh"

The elderly lady then raised her right arm, palm upward, and a worn-out book materialized in her palm.

He was amazed by it.

"I want you to have this book because it will make you stronger," she explained.

"Rest for the time being, and visit the dungeon tomorrow." she advised.

She handed the book to him.

Then, out of nowhere, his sister called from outside his room.

"Brother? Are you up yet? I'm going to school now. I left your meal on the table, eat it when you get up," she said.

"Thank you. Take care," he replied.

When he turned back, the old lady had vanished without a trace.

He couldn't make sense of what had happened. He still couldn't believe he'd died and been revived.

He's at a loss on what to do right now. So, he decided to follow the old lady's advice.

"I should rest for now, and then I'll go to the dungeon tomorrow."

After that, he fell asleep in bed.
