Solitary Vampire

It’s the year 2357 on earth and the world has been at war in a three battlefront against humanoid lizards gifted by magic called dragonkin, aliens that had far more advanced technology called the Xalorians, and the remnants of angels and demons called ShadowFallen.  No to mention the aggressive beasts that roam the universe Through the war humanity has grown too big to stay only on earth, having finally gone to space and occupied planets that one could only dream of, but the universe’s mysteries are far and wide but closer than you may think. Rosaline, a young 16 year old girl, had been given a book to her by her dead parents that had died on the battlefront against the dragonkin before humanity and the Xalorians signed a treaty in the name of ‘preventing’ war and to deal with the powerful dragonkin. Like that treaty had ever stopped war and the Xalorians being hostile towards humanity. But no matter how hard she tries to open the book it wouldn’t give her face, not even pouring acid. But one day just before she goes off to her new military school after middle school, she accidentally poked her hand and a drop of blood fell onto the book.  A system appeared giving her a chance to become stronger, thinking this was a miracle. What she didn't know at the time was that it turned her into something not human. A Vampire. ********************* This novel was inspired by a lot of different media that I have seen so you may see some similarities between them. I will make sure to mention and give credit to the media when that happens. Updates everyday at 16:00 EDT I will probably be able to pick this novel back up again in December of 2026.

Back to Base

The teleporter was constantly going off and on, teleporting the students back to the base.

Atlas was watching over the process with Raven, but his mind was elsewhere.

He couldn't stop thinking about the strange canyon.

The reapers.

Terrifying existents that grow strong through death.

They were on a level that mortals could never dream of.

If they really were there for a while then it was like a canyon truely cursed with death.

And the drake that was played around with in that canyon by someone powerful yet isn't.

It definitely wasn't the Xalorians like he thought before.

They wouldn't dare mess with such powers.

Only humans would, they have all history after all.

He was taken out of his thoughts when Raven called out to him.

"Atlas, focus. Get your mind out of the clouds."

"Oops, sorry!"

….

….

….

The military sent out some military personnel to check on the area where was once the canyon and gave the students a explanation.

** This incident was cause by an area that was missed under our watch.

First years will not be going to any expeditions for the next 6 months as a result of this.

As such, continue to focus on your studies. **

Roseline and the others were asked by several officers what had happened in the canyon.

They were separated in different rooms and asked the same questions.

It was almost like an interrogation, except that they didn't have a lie detector on them.

Roseline had told the truth but kept the Trial of The Weak out.

But everyone that went to the other path had told them about it.

"… that's what happened at that place, I least I think that what happened."

The officer listening to Lelia nodded and let her go after reporting the findings to the high-ups in charge of this investigation.

She got up from the room and left to her dorm.

She was TIRED after all of this.

All of what happened in those two days was to much to a young mind, this event would definitely change the development of their mind to a different path.

She entered and laid on her bed face first.

Sleep overtook her and she finally got a break after a while.

Roseline in the other side of the dorm watched Lelia for a while before taking out the two things she got from the canyon.

Looking at the key first, first inspected it for a while before bringing up the book she hid with the other hands.

The book was smaller than most but it didn't make it any less harder to hide.

But somehow she pulled it off.

Turning her head between them, she looked for a lock that she could use the key on the book.

But she didn't need to do any of that as the System gave her a notification.

——— SYSTEM ———

Use 'Key of Shadow' on 'Shadow' affinity book?

——————————

'What! An affinity book?'

An affinity book that she, a Vampling, could use!

But this made her question the relationship between the canyon, or rather, the reapers that occupied the canyon with vampires.

'Forget it, I can find out about that later…'

She accepted the System's choice and the key in her hand disappeared.

The book that she couldn't open before no matter how hard she tried, opened wide and turned into a stream of black light, going into her chest and Magic Core located in her heart.

'Now that I think of it, what's up with vampires and locking their books up impossibly strong. Well if media was right, I guess it would be because they gatekeep everything.'

Roseline thought about random things before asking the System.

'Hey System, just what are the affinities that Vampires can use?'

— The affinities the Vampires can use are: Shadow, Ice, Blood, Death, and Spirit. —

'Is that so?'

She felt a change in her Magic Core and quickly got into a meditative position, entering her subconscious.

The color of the Magic Core in the center had changed color.

From colorless to a dark gray color that greatly blended into the subconscious.

If anyone other than her looked at it, they would never see it.

It was hidden amazingly well, like a shadow.

Getting out of her subconscious, she checked her System and saw that her affinity had changed from none to Shadow.

She got a few notifications from the System reacting to the change in Roseline.

——— SYSTEM ———

User has unlocked Shadow Abilities!

——————————

——— SYSTEM ———

Shadow Abilities unlocked:

1. Shadow merge

2. Shadow blink

3. Shadow pocket

———————————

'Abilities? Right, they're the ways in which someone can use their affinity.'

Roseline thought about the similarities that Abilities had with Skills.

'Are Skills just Abilities but based on species? I wonder what the skills of other species are…'

She couldn't wait to use them but she was tired and chose to do it tomorrow instead.

Putting all of that behind her mind, Roseline picked up the green badge.

The flowers with lilies, coming out of the womb.

Though Gheasis was the god of the earth and not life, 'She' tends to have wombs as one of 'Her' symbols.

The god of life was Yhara.

If she remembered correctly, she once heard from a believer of Gheasis that in the cannon bible of Gheasis, Gheasis and Yhara with twin sisters.

Roseline assumed that it was related to the harvest part of 'Her' title and as well as people often mistaking 'Her' for 'Her' twin sister.

It would be weird after all if the earth was really just a giant womb.

Behind it, runes glowed a dim white.

It was empty of mana.

It needed mana from the earth affinity to be properly used.

The only person she could think of that had the earth affinity 'close' to her was Aiden.

'Do I really want to?….'

In the end she just pushed that to the back of her mind like with everything else.

She put the badge in a dresser near her bed and got up to bath, dress and go to bed.

As she closed her eyes, she wonder when these mysteries answers will appear.

She just had to many questions.
