Chapter 1

Once upon a time, there was a childless queen who yearned for a child. She was Queen Merienne de Weid, the queen of the Northern Kingdom. She would always go to the balcony of her room and whisper her wish to have a child to the wind so that it would carry her wish for all the kind fairies to hear, hoping that one of them would help her. One day, a travelling fairy heard her earnest wish through the wind. The wind told her about how the queen whispers her wish every night. The fairy liked people who do not give up, so she granted the queen's wish. The king went to her bedroom the following night. Then, the queen was told by the royal doctor that she was bearing a child. The queen patiently waited for her child to be born. It had been snowing the night that she gave birth. The snow flakes were a bit bigger than the normal ones they usually see. They were falling gently to the earth, covering everything in white snow. For some reason, the snow seemed to be softly glowing. The queen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl shortly before midnight. The baby's beauty seemed to have enchanted everyone in the room, including the queen. Her skin was as plae as the falling snow, her hair was as dark as the darkest winter night, and her lips were as red as the reddest rose. The queen held her daughter on her arms and she was suddenly reminded of the moon on the night she met her husband. The queen smiled weakly and said, " Your name will be Dianna Winternette, my daughter." Upon hearing her name, the child smiled at her as her mother leaned down to kiss her forehead. That was the first and last time she would be able to hold and kiss her daughter. Meanwhile, the king suddenly had an ominous feeling while doing his work. He froze for a second and hurriedly continued his work. He arrived at the room moments later. He saw the sad faces of the people in the room, contrary to the happiness they should be feeling for the birth of the princess. He ran towards the direction of where her wife was. His heart shattered into pieces as he was told that the queen had passed, leaving him and their daughter all by themselves. He felt mixed emotions brewing inside of him. He felt happiness for his daughter and grief for his wife at the same time. The king hugged both of them and cried silently. He then decided to raise the only thing that connects him with the queen, Princess Dianna.
