Slay Online: I Put All My Points Into Agility

Slay Online, a violent life-like fantasy MMORPG. Originally created by a rogue scientist, it was an illegal game. No governments could find the game servers to shut it down - but soon enough, it became an underground sensation. Everyone was playing it in secret. Eventually, Slay Online was legalised, and people found you could send your consciousness, your own soul, into the game - leaving your body behind. Kai was one of these people, a terminally ill patient, suffering from an incurable disease. He was a nobody, an orphan dying in a hospital with no one who cared about him. The doctors wanted his body for research, so they decided to send him into the game. So far, Kai's life was one of suffering. It was an endless cycle of running from his bullies and getting beaten up; pushed down at every turn. And his suffering would not end. Before Kai could send his soul in, an in-game countdown started. No one knew what would happen when the countdown ended, and the doctors temporarily weren't allowed to send him into the game; all he could do was wait as he squirmed from the pain in his body, lying in the hospitals VR capsule. Will he let his new life beat him down again? Will he become another punching bag? Join Kai as he starts his new life in Slay Online. **** Art by gibyjoesph1990@gmail.com

Anger

Analysing his boots, Kai soon found out that they were identical to his own.

"What the? Did he actually just kill me for my boots…" Kai shook his head in disbelief.

"Even in a game, people treat each other like animals… but I'm glad I left the real world, I may have a better chance here."

Kai cautiously clambered over large tree roots and boulders, leaving the dangerous forest without incident.

"I guess I know now that I can't trust people, not even here in my new life..." his voice sounded sad as he jumped off a fallen tree.

There were no other players around as the game had just launched, and most would be focused on doing quests to level up as quickly as possible.

Before he knew it, he was back in the beetle-covered filled and out of the PVP zone.

"Hmm, It said I levelled up." he promptly opened his system menu and saw a flashing plus symbol next to his class, clicking it.

[5 Free Attribute Points]

[Choose where you would like to distribute them]

[Strength - 10]

[Perception - 10]

[Endurance - 10]

[Charisma - 10]

[Dexterity - 10]

[Agility - 10]

[Intelligence - 10]

[Luck - 10]

"Hmm, eight to choose from… but that voice said I was best suited to dexterity and agility, so the choice seems obvious."

Kai was wondering which stat was better for him out of the two as he stared at the words - and after a moment, a notification popped in front of him.

[Dexterity - Attack precision, weapon swap speed, critical hit chance and accuracy]

"Oh, I see how this works." he focused on the agility attribute next.

[Agility - Movement speed, evade chance, reflexes, dodge chance, attack speed]

"The choice is obvious. I don't want to feel pain ever again."

Without a second thought, Kai instantly dumped his points into agility, raising it to 15.

Exiting out of the menu, he felt something different.

"Hmm… I feel lighter somehow.. This feels…. Nice." he smiled to himself.

Suddenly, he heard a hissing noise as a beetle attacked.

"What the?" he turned around in time just to see it pouncing from the corner of his eye.

"Oh sh~" suddenly, his body side-stepped and he found himself a few steps to the side of the attack - while an after-image of himself disappeared.

"What just happened?" he was shocked for a moment.

The beetle was still crawling towards him, so he began to pump it full of his hand-crossbow bolts, killing it in only three hits.

*took took took*

It died in 3 hits.

He finally had a chance to come to terms with what just happened.

"Did my body move on its own?"

Clearly, he evaded the beetle attack, but at the time he knew he wouldn't be able to avoid it, and was clenching his teeth as he waited for the strike.

"Automatic dodging?"

This was his only explanation. He had to test his theory.

Approaching another beetle, he got ready for the beetle to attack, and just as it pounced, he dodged to the side - leaving behind another after image.

"Semi-automatic dodging?" he guessed, since he was able to evade consciously as well.

"It must be like a passive and an active skill." he smiled at this revelation.

"Agility… this seems like the right path…"

Kai began walking back to the village. Since there was no quest, and coming here was clearly a devious plot, he had to head back to find a quest or two.

As he walked through the field, he saw someone running at him.

Kai furrowed his brows in anger "That bastard… what does he want now?"

Donley was running towards him "Hey! Kai!"

Kai kept walking towards the village and Donley finally got closer.

"Kai, I wasn't meant to kill you. It was a lesson. There really is a quest."

Donley reeked of desperation, even a child could tell that he was squeezing each word out, each word being a lie.

Kai decided to keep walking, a proud smile on his face as he thought to himself "Heh, he has nothing left? I wonder why I only dropped one thing while he dropped everything."

Seeing Kai walk away without even acknowledging him, Donley burst out in anger.

"GRR! Kai, give me back my stuff or I'll kill you again, and again, and again!" Donley marched over to punch Kai in the back - yet his fist just went right through.

This was not a PVP zone, he was powerless.

"Dammit…" he could only grit his teeth in ager. "You noob loser, I'll get you one day… you'll see."

His voice was bitter and filled with curses.

Kai was fully ignoring him at this point; looking at his map, Kai was more worried about where to sell Donley's items and pick up a few beginners quests.

Donley may as well have been a gentle wind.

Donley let out his rage on the beetles, smashing his fists into them in anger.

"GRAAHH!" he had just lost everything.

"My riches… my guild… I won't even be allowed into a guild at this rate…" he broke down into a blubbering mess, crying in a field, covered in bug goo.
