Once I started feeling better I also started thinking about what I could do to repay Jacob's kindness. I was living under his roof, disrupting his life, eating his food, using his artifacts, and receiving language lessons, all for free. There didn't seem to be much I could do, but at the very least I now knew how he cleaned his floors and washed his dishes. It was familiar work, and I started doing it every day, making sure to time it so the floor would be dry before he arrived.
