Calm Before The Storm

The hall glowed a soft lavender, the dust of the defeated griffin guardian settled. Lucian leaned against a crystal pillar, breathing shallowly. Sweat clung to his clothes, as he stared into space, interested in the benefits the system gave him this time.

He had gained 3 levels, bringing him to level 11. There was an additional reward, a new weapon.

>>Crystal Talon<<

ATK: +10

>Passive skills:

-Additional damage against magic defense.

-High durability.

>Active skills:

-Crystal Laceration: Enhances the blade for 10 seconds, allowing the blade to partially ignore physical armor.

Cooldown: 5mins

"So basically, the weapon increases my offensive capabilities against magic-inclined foes and gives me a skill that increases offensive capabilities against physical armor. Seems kinda broken to me."

"If only it wasn't a lower leveled equipment."

He opened his system tab. Curious to see the changes in his stats. He realized a while back on his way to the forest that physical activities have a small chance of increasing its related stats, so he spent a while exercising each morning before he got back on the road.

He signaled to Saphira; she could come out now. He didn't want her to get hurt, so even though she had shown willingness to assist him, he still declined, keeping her 'locked in'. He could not allow her to get hurt. She had so much potential. But all the potential in the world won't matter if it rested on a dead body.

When she came out, she glared at him in anger before she turned to the crystal griffin on the floor. Her eyes shone immediately and dug her talons into its 'flesh' devouring it as quickly as she could muster.

For every bite she took, he could see her experience point increase little by little. This would probably be enough to increase her level twice.

———

He got back to his system; he had 11 skill points. He'd never used them because he felt they would provide more worth in case of emergencies.

He opened up the Skill point and a list of delicious information greeted his eyes.

>>Skill Points Usage Rates<<

—1:3 for Stats

—1:1 for Lv1-3 skills. 2:1 for Lv4-7 skills and 3:1 for Lv8-10 skills.

—5:1 for Magic Lvs.

He thought for a while and decided to put 5 skill points in speed. He can't be a meat shield if he's not working in a team.

>>SPD: 42<<

He used another 5 to bring his flame mastery to Lv4 and decided that that was enough for now.

He glanced at Saphira and decided to look around the hall a little, while she kept eating.

Walking around for a little, a soft hum caught his attention. Beneath a towering amethyst crystal, he saw a little pool emitting some kind of warmth.

Intrigued, he walked towards the pool. As he neared the pool, the cool air from the pool increasingly calmed him down. His little wounds were healing up slowly over time.

Arriving at the pool, hesitantly, he knelt by the pool and dipped his hand inside. He didn't know what dangers lay ahead, so he couldn't wantonly use his potions. Since this spring had healing properties, he might as well take full advantage of it.

Submerging his arms into the pool, the liquid shimmers, sending tendrils up his arms, latching onto it. Alarmed, he tried to pull his arm away, but the tendril's grip was stronger than he anticipated.

Before he could think about what else to do, a soothing warmth spreads through his body, easing the ache in his muscles along with the tension in his mind.

After about a dozen seconds, the tendrils recede back into the pool and he pulls his hand out, surprised to find the aches much diminished. He felt stronger, not just physically, but also mentally.

Immediately he left the pool, a portal opened in front of him. "The calm before the storm, aye?"

He stood up and stretched his muscles a few times. His body felt like his once again. He called out to Saphira and moved towards the swirling vortex.

With renewed determination to see the whole thing to the end, he steps through the vortex.
