1 Chapter One

I ran through the automatic glass doors, his limp, bleeding body heavy in my arms.

"Help! I need a doctor!" I yelled down the hallway of the hospital. I was genuinely scared for his life.

"Oh! I'll get a stretcher and a drip. Please hold on just a little longer!" A nurse said, panicking.

Soon, I saw four nurses with the stretcher and I handed him to them. As they took off down the hallway, I stayed back at the front desk.

"I'll need the names and ages of both of you," The lady said with a pen and paper so she could write it down.

"My name is Sky Thompson, age twenty one. That was my twin brother, Quinn." I said, as calm as I could.

She wrote some things down, then typed on a computer.

"Alright, your insurance covers it fully, so you don't have to worry," She said with a soft smile.

That was strange, considering insurance wasn't what it once was.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. Year 2017. Dimension 347483. A completely different dimension than you are probably in right now.

How this tale got to you, I don't know, but maybe I should back up a bit and start at the beginning.

*Year 2017, New King's Day*

We all stood there, a mandatory practice. New King's Day was exactly how it sounded. The whole population had to go, only about one or two thousand people remained in America. Only about four thousand in the world.

The cause of this was the previous kings. The greatest Nuclear War broke out a few years ago. I believe it started because France stopped giving Germany Honey. All hell broke loose.

I stood next to Quinn, afraid to be without him. We both looked up at the new king, who had just been crowned; King Daniel, and his father, King John III.

"And now, as king, you may place your first degree." King John's voice boomed around the corridor. Some people cheered, others looked as if they just wanted to leave.

"I say that everyone gets free ice cream every Sunday!" King Daniel yelled at the top of his lungs. He was a chubby eighteen year old redhead with horrendous freckles.

His father rolled his eyes as the crowd cheered. I just silently waited for the ceremony to be over so I could leave and disappear into the forest with Quinn. We didn't have a home, it was destroyed in the war; along with my parents.

"Alright. That's all. I wish everybody a good evening!"

'Finally! I thought it would never end!' I thought to myself.

"Let's go find food! Then we can find Chiko," Quinn said as he pranced towards the woods. He may have seemed like a happy and optimistic person, but we both know the trauma that the war brought him. I think it effected him much more than it did me. He gets nightmares and panic attacks almost every night.

"Alright. We need to get plenty because we'll have to start traveling South tomorrow."

I went South every year after New Kings Day. Winters here are harsh, so we walk all of the way to Mexico. There were less people, and it was always warmer there.

"Yeah, yeah. You've been talking about this trip for the past week," he complained.

By now we were deep in the forest, looking for something to eat. Chiko joined us in our hunt. He prefured chicken over anything else, so he lead us to them.
