Exorcist Twins

The afternoon that same day he saw Alex with weird people, Devin was walking home when he stopped dead in his tracks after hearing the first siren. It shouldn't bother him, it shouldn't stop him from walking.

It wasn't like this before. The first siren meant that he still had thirty more minutes. He still had thirty minutes, but he felt like it was the last siren. Like any moment now, the stained souls that surrounded him would attack him and feast on his guts.

Devin wanted to walk even when his legs refused to move. Even when it was as if his feet were glued to the ground. The concrete sidewalk was like a giant maze in Devin's mind. And in front of him was the monster in his dream.

The terrified boy screamed and ran inside his apartment. He was being crazy. Why should he be afraid? In his dream, the monster faded into oblivion. The only stained soul that could see him was already dead.

Yet, the way his body trembled after hearing the second siren was in no comfort for him. He curled into a ball beside his dark bed, just staring at his gray walls. Devin couldn't think right. His mind was hazy like he was drunk.

But he had never been drunk. And no alcohol entered his lips for as long as he can remember.

The final siren rang, the sun was hiding in the horizon, and the cold enveloped Devin. As his body shook, remembering everything that happened the night before. The thick fog, the cold surrounding, and the monster's glowing red eyes.

A meow snapped Devin out his terrifying thoughts. Revelation rubbed his head on the shaking Devin's legs. The cat comforted Devin like Revelation was his morning coffee after a whole night's worth of homework.

"Are you hungry?" Devin asked his snow-white cat. Revelation purred and meowed which Devin took as a yes. "Let's go eat dinner."

As Devin exited his room, a roar echoed in the streets. A roar so loud that it shook the windows from the shock. A roar so terrifying that the boy could only fall to his knees.

Revelation's purring didn't calm Devin this time. The fear that struck his body was too great. He didn't know how to recover from the shock.

His eyes trailed to his window, there he saw a pair of red glowing eyes. The fear he felt from the earlier roar tripled. It was as if he would pee in his pants in fear. Devin was afraid, it was no question.

"What's this?" the monster spoke. "Is this dinner?"

Devin's eyes widened in fear. He didn't know that he could be more scared than he already was. Hearing the monster roar from a distance was already frightening. Seeing the monster and hearing it talk was worse.

The lion-looking stained soul grinned and knocked on the window with his sharp claws. It was as if he was toying with the shaking boy.

"I like seeing my meals shiver in fear. It makes it more… delicious," the monster mumbled. "Its scream as an appetizer, guts for the main course, and cries for dessert."

Devin inhaled as deep as he could, "Don't come near me!"

"Oh? Now you're feisty," the stained soul laughed. "I'd like to know why my dinner is here. Humans don't wander around this realm. What are you–"

"There you are, Echelon 5!"

A boy's scream cut the monster off. The monster looked at Devin one last time, "Till we meet again."

The monster took off his window before a familiar grey cloak passed by like a flash. If Devin blinked, he would miss the figure that was passing by. He couldn't be mistaken, that same cloak that was in Mr. Coltrane's office.

"An exorcist!" Devin yelled with hope and excitement. He opened his window to take a peek at what happened. The fact that the monster could still be in his windowsill didn't even cross his mind.

The glimmer of hope that the gray cloak gave was enough for Devin to regain his courage. An Exorcist came and saved him.

From his window, he saw a white-haired boy. His hood was down, making his face clear to see from the second story Devin was in. The boy had a frown in his face, probably disappointed that he didn't catch the stained soul.

In the Exorcist's hand was an item that made Devin's eyes widen in shock. He was holding a similar white glowing sword that Devin saw last night. The sword that faded into thin air.

Looking closer, the boy had shiny white hair, he was tall and slender too. His skin that looked like it was made of glass shimmered under the light of the moonless sky. Maybe it was just in his mind but they looked a bit similar.

The only major difference between Devin and the now cursing Exorcist boy was their height. Devin's petite figure could only reach 5'3 while the other boy looked like he was past 6 feet. Another difference was their noses. Devin had a small button-nose while the boy had a long sharp nose.

"What in the hell are you doing here?"

A voice behind him made Devin jump in fear. He was expecting a stained soul, but he saw a black-haired boy. His face was similar to the boy who chased the lion stained soul, but his face was more serious.

"I-I don't know," Devin answered. "After the third siren, everything around me gets instantly cold and a thick fog would cover everything."

The boy shook his head in disbelief, his stoic expression never leaving his face. "You mean this happened before?"

"It happened yesterday as well. And there was a–"

A sword that was pointed in Devin's neck stopped him from talking. With a gulp, he moved his neck away and turned around. The boy down below was behind him. His face held a confused expression as he gave his friend a questioning look.

"Let him finish, Andrei," the black-haired boy said. "It's already bad that you let the Echelon 5 getaway."

Andrei walked towards his lookalike and wrapped his arm around the expressionless boy. "How did this happen?"

"I have no idea," Devin said. "Last night, I was walking home when I heard the third siren. Everyone wasn't around and there was a stone something on the seats of the sofa. The surrounding was cold and when I got out of the room to investigate, everyone else was a tombstone and–"

"So, you can Glimpse?" Andrei asked, cutting Devin off. His ally elbowed him in his stomach.

There was a scrunch in Devin's face. "Glimpse?"

"You were about to say something before my brother cut you off," the black-haired boy said. "I'm sorry. Please continue."

So that's why they look so similar. Devin thought.

"And there was this huge guy that held a gigantic baseball bat," Devin said, his arms waving in the air as if to picture out what he saw the night before. "When I looked closer, his skin was covered with scales! Like the scales of a snake! After locking eyes with it, I passed out. When I woke up, the monster was fading, and I was holding a sword that was white as light and was glowing brightly."

"That explains the disappearance of the Echelon 4," Andrei's brother said, placing his thumb and index finger on his chin. "I'm Andrew by the way."

"And the glowing sword, do you mean something like…" Andrei paused, unsheathing his sword. His eyes glowed with white light and a star appeared on top of him. The star hovered over his head and floated a few meters on top of the boy.

The sword held was engulfed with a similar white light before transforming into a silver sword. "You mean like this?"

Devin nodded his head while the brothers looked at each other. They were as confused as Devin was.

"But wait…" Devin broke the silence that was enveloping them. "Why do I look like you?"

The two looked at each other before Andrew gave out a sigh, "Listen, kid. We–"

"My name is Devin," Devin cut the young Exorcist off."

"He's not playing games," Andrei whispered to his brother.

"Okay, Devin, I don't know if you know this, but all Exorcists have similar features. We have porcelain-like skin, healthy and shiny locks, and our height and build are slim and tall," Andrew said. "You checked the first two but your build… we don't know what you are."

"But the fact that you can Glimpse means something," Andrei added. "Let's meet here tomorrow. If you're Glimpse is unintentional, it means you're gonna–"

With a blink of an eye, the morning siren rang. Devin squinted his eyes when the sunlight his face. It was morning. The birds were chirping outside, it wasn't cold, and he could see people down below.

"What is happening?" Devin asked himself.
