1 CASE I : The Beginning of the Mystery

For those of you readers who love and are obsessed with mystery things, I know that you must have always dreamed of being able to solve a complex and unique crime scenario with your own brain. Introducing, my name is Bernard Rampage I was born and raised in England to be precise in London by my aunt and uncle who I don't need to mention and live a simple life with them. When I write this book, I am already 30 years old and unfortunately I have not found a suitable partner to accompany me until the end of my life. I dedicate this book and writing to my friend and mystery partner who always opens my eyes about the dark side of humans, he is Louis Axe. This story begins in 1960, at that time I had just graduated from high school and I was 19 years old.

During my first semester of education, I didn't feel any obstacles to getting high grades, it was probably because I quite liked something that had to do with chemistry and health. But there is one thing that I feel for sure, namely boredom because there is no progress in my life and the same routine from day to day. The boredom continued to surround my life until I finally met Louis Axe, Louis is one of my classmates, at first I thought he was a shy person because he rarely made a scene in class and was always quiet during class. When I describe the person, Louis has a height of about 170 cm, slightly brownish skin, slightly thin body, his eyes are quite sharp with blue pupils and if you look closely you will find that his face is a bit typical of asian. You'll want to know how I got to be friends and partner with this quiet yet smart guy.

This incident happened in the last month of my first semester, at that time as usual I woke up at seven in the morning and got ready to go to campus, the distance from my house to campus is quite far so I usually use my personal bicycle or when I'm lazy to ride the pedals I use the bus to go to campus. When I arrived at the campus, the clock was already 8 in the morning and realized that class was about to start without thinking I immediately ran so as not to be late for class. However, while running towards the entrance something surprising happened, around the campus building already perched police cars and ambulances with their distinctive sirens and don't forget a group of people wearing police uniforms gathered in front of the entrance of the building.

Suddenly I was silent hearing this, but out of curiosity I finally decided to approach the scene. When I was right at the entrance, what surprised me even more was not the woman's corpse but I saw a familiar figure, namely Louis. "Oh my gosh" I suddenly shouted his name from a distance "Hey Louis" I said, instantly Louis turned to me and waved his hand as if calling me to his place. I rushed over to him who was standing there holding a small note in his hand.

"What are you doing here Bernard?"

"No Louis, I was just curious as to what happened and what surprised me even more was why are you here?"

With a slight cynical smile he answered my question

"It's nothing I was just asked for advice on this murder case"

"You mean the police asked for your advice?"

"Well that's how it is, actually I'm quite famous among the police for often helping them in cases of senseless crimes and while you are here how about you accompany me Bernard?"

Without thinking I nodded even though I still couldn't believe what was happening. Louis also introduced me to detective Thomas who is a detective from the police, "Actually, civilians are prohibited from entering the scene, but since Louis asked for it I think it's okay" Detective Thomas told me. Although I was a little offended by what he said, I didn't mind it because civilians like me shouldn't have interfered in the work of the police. After that Louis invited me to examine the condition of the woman's corpse who had been lying stiff.

"What do you think of this woman, Bernard?"

Hearing her question, I also slightly observed the condition of the woman's corpse

"A woman aged around 30 years, there was no violence on her body but the tip of the index finger on her left hand was scratched by the razor she was holding in her right hand and it was written Alex's name made with blood from her index finger and a bottle filled with water as if it had been drunk." I said while observing the woman's corpse.

"Incredible Bernard, perhaps you have a knack for uncovering crimes." It's funny to me

Police think this woman committed suicide by consuming poison, but Louis still believes there is a secret behind this woman's death. Louis Pun approached this woman's body and examined the victim's body.

"Rigor mortis hasn't happened yet which means the victim was killed about 30 minutes to 1 hour earlier."

"The victim also injured his left forefinger and wrote down the name of a man who I think might be his girlfriend, but when I checked the victim's personal records it appeared that the victim was not left-handed and a right-handed person certainly couldn't write well with his left hand," he concluded confidently while looking at us."

"How do you know this person is right-handed just from his record?"

"Oh my friend, why do you think I'm quiet in class? I observed everyone in the class and of course I also observed the writings of my left-handed and left-handed friends. The writing of left-handed and right-handed people certainly has differences, for example in the writing of each alphabet."

"Then how do you know the name written in blood is his girlfriend?" I replied while denying his statement

"It's easy for me, in this woman's wallet there is a photo of her with a man and in her personal notes is also written Alex's name."

"Then the one who killed him must be his girlfriend, Alex."

"Judging too quickly isn't good Bernard, but it's better if we go and ask his girlfriend about this in person"

We and detective Thomas immediately moved from the scene to the house of the victim's lover named Alex, the distance from her lover's house took approximately 30 minutes. During the trip Louis seemed serious in thought and of course I did not dare to disturb him let alone talk to him. When we got there, we immediately knocked on the door of the victim's boyfriend's house and I was quite surprised to see the condition of the victim's girlfriend named Alex. Alex looked very depressed after receiving the news about his girlfriend's death, but without further ado, Louis immediately asked Alex

"I know you're depressed after hearing the news about your boyfriend, but may I ask you to write your name on a piece of paper?" Louis asked while reaching for the paper and pen in his pocket

" Does not matter." He answered in a low and languid voice

I don't understand why Louis asked Alex to write his name, even though I don't think his name is too hard to spell. After that, Louis began to ask questions about his relationship with the victim, and we found out that Alex had an affair with his previous lover and ended up dating the victim. After getting that information, we rushed out of Alex's house and went to his ex's house, Jessica. "So it wasn't Alex who did it?" I said as we were on our way, Louis didn't answer my question but just showed a small smile on his lips.

When we arrived at the location, we immediately got out of the car and knocked on the door of the house and when the door was opened we saw a woman in her 30s who was wearing the same work clothes as the victim. The woman looked surprised to see our arrival and then invited us to enter, Louis again asked the woman to write her name on a piece of paper and start a conversation with the woman who turned out to be Jessica.

"May I know what is your job, Miss?"

"I work as a cleaning staff at one of the campuses."

"That means I'm sure you've heard about your friend who also works at the same place."

"Well I've heard it and it took me by surprise." The woman said while putting on a sad face

"It seems you haven't had time to change your work clothes, what time do you go to work today."

"I left today around 06.30."

"It means you met the victim at that time not because your shift was the same as the victim, did you see anything strange about him?"

" Nothing unusual."

"I know that your boyfriend broke up with you a few days ago and started dating the victim who is your friend, how was your relationship after that?"

"Well I'm really annoyed to know that, since then we rarely talk." The woman replied in an annoyed tone

"Well then the last question, did you poison the victim?"

Suddenly hearing that the whole room was silent and shocked, I said to Louis "It's true that Jessica is upset with the victim but that doesn't mean she killed Louis." I answered with a little emotion

"My friend Bernard and detective Thomas, if you're not sure how about you check this woman's bag now, because I'm sure the poison is still in there." Reply Louis confidently

We rushed to check the woman's bag and sure enough we found a small plastic bag filled with white powder which was probably poison. Finally, the woman sluggishly admitted that she was the one who killed the victim. In awe and disbelief I asked Louis to explain how he found out.

"It's easy, my friend, when I checked the victim's body, rigor mortis had not occurred, which means that if the victim's body was found at 07.30 then this murder should have occurred around 06.30-07.00, then the victim was probably killed by poisoning and with his left forefinger the victim wrote the name of his girlfriend. even though the victim was not left-handed. At the scene, a bottle filled with water was also found and I'm sure it wasn't the victim's bottle because it contained the initials JA, the initials A may be Alex's initials but whose initials are J because the victim's name does not start with the letter J. It is clear that the victim did not commit suicide , the perpetrator kills the victim with the poison given to the bottle and when the victim drinks it automatically the victim will die immediately. Realizing his actions would be exposed, then the culprit makes a conspiracy as if the victim died because someone else killed him by writing the name of his girlfriend. The perpetrator must have hoped that the victim's ex-girlfriend was a suspect in this case, but unfortunately the perpetrator wrote down Alex's name using his left hand while the victim was not left-handed." Obviously Louis with passion

"Then how do you know Jessica is the killer and how do you know the poison is still in her bag." I said while trying to refute Louis' theory

"You must be wondering why I asked them to write their names on a piece of paper, the answer is because I want to know if they are left-handed or not. When I asked Alex to write his name he wrote it with his right hand and Alex also mentioned the name of his ex named Jessica which made this case a bright spot. And when I asked him to write his name he wrote with his left hand which means he is left-handed, and also why he hasn't changed into his work clothes when all the staff were sent home early today, normal people would immediately change their clothes and rest. There is only one answer,

After hearing the woman's confession, the police then arrested her and did not forget detective Thomas thanked Louis for helping him reveal the truth of this case. After that we returned and while on the way Louis said to me "Are you interested in my hobby, Bernard? If you're interested how about you accompany me in every case I receive" he said with a little seduction. Hearing that immediately made me happy because I was really interested after seeing how Louis revealed the facts and of course I accepted the offer given by Louis and began my adventure story in uncovering this senseless crime.
