Night At The Abandoned Hospital

Rakesh and Mohan had together passed out from medical college that year. The both wished to work at a hospital in some remote village and serve and treat the people there. So they set out together and reached a village far away from the city. At a little distance from the village, there was an abandoned hospital. The hospital was a two-storey building. Many years ago, people were treated and patients were taken proper care of at the hospital.  But for some unknown reason, the hospital had shut down and since then it has been abandoned. 

They both decided to open the hospital again. It was around evening when they cleaned a room on the ground floor of the hospital building to spend the night there. They brought all essentials and necessary items from the village. The closest house from the village was ten to fifteen minutes away. So they brought with them everything they needed so that they don't need to go out again at night. 

It was starting to get dark. The two friends were sitting outside at the hospital compound and chatting. Suddenly, a man with his face almost entirely covered with a shawl came upto them.

The mysterious man asked, "Who are you boys? I've never seen you here before." They explained how they wished to reopen the hospital and treat people there.

The man smiled. There was something creepy about his smile and his whole appearance. 

"You're reopening the hospital? You're doing a great job! I'll go and tell everyone." We smiled and thanked him. 

"But be careful," the man said, "You're new here and there is no house nearby. Be aware. There are some bad people here."Rakesh replied, "Sir, we're not scared. There's no problem at all. You can stay with us if you want." 

The man said, "No I'm sorry but I can't stay with you. I'll see you around later", and left. They continued chatting. 

All the rooms on the first floor of the hospital were locked from outside. The rooms had been locked for so long, that the lock had gathered rust on it. The building was so old that the walls were crumbling in some places. There was no other light there other than the moon light. The leaves of the trees behind the building were blowing in the wind and it felt as if the leaves were whispering to the boys to leave the place at once. The place had an eerie feel to it. 

They went on chatting for a long time and then saw that it was already 11 o'clock. They had their dinner and went off to sleep. Suddenly, they heard some screams and the sound of footsteps from the floor above. They were taken aback. All the rooms on the floor above were locked from outside. Then how were these sounds coming? They took a torch with them and climbed up the stairs to go and check. They saw that the doors to all the rooms were open. Candles were burning inside the rooms. Two nurses were holding a patient. They weren't looking looking towards the boys.

The patient was screaming, "Help! Save me! Please save me!" Rakesh and Mohan's heart started beating faster and their feet startled trembling in fear.

Mohan went inside the room and said in a trembling voice," Wh-why are you h-holding him forcefully?" The nurses and the patient turned around and looked towards them. They got terrified on seeing their faces. Their faces looked horrific and they didn't look...alive! Mohan immediately fainted and Rakesh quickly pulled him out of the room. Just as they came out of the room, everything turned back to normal again. There was no one else there apart from them and the rooms were locked.Rakesh splashed some water on Mohan's face and he regained consciousness. Both were extremely scared. Suddenly they heard a horrific scream from the ground floor and they ran downstairs. They saw the same man who had warned them to leave the place, was lying on the ground. He had wounds on his entire body and was bleeding profusely. 

Rakesh asked Mohan to quickly get the bandages from his bag. Mohan went to get the bandages but could not find any in the bag. He called out to Rakesh and said that he could not find the bandages. Rakesh left the man there and went to get the bandages. 

"Here they are! Can't you see?", Rakesh snapped at Mohan as he found the bandages in the bag. 

" I'm sorry.. I'm just so tensed and scared that I didn't notice" replied Mohan. 

When they came back with the bandages they were shocked to see that the man wasn't lying there any more. What was even more surprising was that there wasn't even a single drop of blood anywhere. They both went numb with fear. Just then, they again heard screams from the floor above. They looked upwards and saw there was light coming from the rooms yet again and the man was screaming, "Help Me! Save me!" 

They could not bear it anymore and ran straight outside the hospital and saw the same man whom they had tried to help with bandages, standing there. He looked horrific, with the wounds on his body and he had a sinister smile on his face. They screamed and ran back inside the hospital and went straight to their room and locked it from inside. They lay down on the bed and covered their faces with the blanket. They prayed for the night to get over soon so that they could leave the place in the morning, alive. 

Suddenly, they saw a pool of blood coming inside the room, from under the door. Soon the blood spread all over the room. They again screamed and ran outside the room to see the same man standing in front of them. This time, he had a knife and a pair of scissors in his hand.

"Please leave us! Please let us go!" they screamed. They backed away from him and leaned against a wall, scared for their lives. 

"Wh-who are you? What do you want?" they asked. 

The man told them his story - 

"I was a doctor here at this hospital. The hospital had started a long time ago and had treated many people. I had joined here much later. Other than treating people, I had some other plan of my own. I was involved in organ harvesting and used to take out the hearts and kidneys of some patients on the pretext of treating them. I used to carry out these operations mostly late at night, when there wouldn't be any visitors."

The boys were extremely scared on hearing all this and just wanted to run away from there. On the floor above there were the nurses and here in front of them was the doctor, standing right in front of the exit gate. There was no escape. 

The man continued his story, "Once I had been careless and had left the door to the operation room open. Some bastard came there due to some emergency and saw me taking out a man's kidney. Before I could get hold of him, he ran off and went and informed everyone in the village about it. I planned to leave the place at once, but before I could escape, the people together came and beat me and the nurses to death. Those bastards!"

The boys were terrified to know that the man standing in front of them was actually a ghost. They were sure that they were going to die there.

"Since then my spirit has stayed here at the hospital looking for my next patient. The people got scared of me and shut down the hospital forever. Finally I have found my next patients." The doctor started approaching them with the knife and scissors. Before they knew it, the nurses came and got hold of them. They took them to the operation room and the hospital building echoed with the boys' screams.
