66 Bear Witness

Max observed the small rural town, rather similar to the one he had first arrived to this world in. Except, it was currently being ravaged by a rather large beast. It looked like a very large boar, with a black horn one its forehead, the total body length reaching an astounding 3 meters, and its height towering over humans at 2.5 meters!

Max observed as 3 people were either impaled by the insanely sharp horn, or stomped into past by its hooves.

All the surrounding people had already run away into the surrounding houses, hoping that the rotting wood they would protect them from something that would rather evidently give the guards in the capital of Athens a very hard time even surviving.

'It is almost perfectly set up…' Max mused as he continued walking towards it, unhindered, undaunted, unperturbed.

The few people cowering and shivering in their houses noticed the strange man in a grey hood walking slowly but steadily towards the monster. The creature itself also noticed this easy prey, compared to the ones that were hiding, this one was out in the open and it would definitely get it.

It quickly steadied itself and began its charge. Its muscles propelled it at high speeds at its prey, while some of the weak-willed on-lookers closed their eyes out of fright.

Max simply raised his palm and spread out his fingers at the best.

"God, please bear witness."

He timed his sentence to end as soon as the horn touched his hand, and instantly he activated [Repel] on the beast to stop its movement, but also activated [Attract] to prevent it from being thrown away instantly. The shock from being forced to a full stop had rattled the creature's mind, so it did not move much.

"Bear witness for the sins of this creature. It is not killing out of necessity or hunger, but out of bloodlust. It is killing for the sake of killing. And it is killing women, children, and innocents."

"Bear witness for the sins of the creature… are not its own. Its body is covered in festering wounds, made by the sharp blades of humans, who refused to put the beast out of its misery."

"Beat witness for the wounds were infected, causing the beast to survive, but barely, in constant pain eating away its sanity."

"Bear witness, at the lives lost to the monster, that had its hand forced by other humans."

"Bear witness, oh Primordial Unity!"

And with that, he shifted his palm down, while it was still in contact with the creature's horn. He tripled the density of the creature's brain, causing it to be flattened under its own weight without actually causing any visible damage to the creature.

"Bear witness, as humanity prevails once more."

*Boom*

The creature fell to the ground, unable to stand on its feet, and then collapsed to its side. Max turned to look at the small red dot on it, swiftly wiping it with the thumb of his other hand.

'Phew… that was close.'

Max had to time everything perfectly, he had to use the [Repel] ability at the very instant that he qualified the contact condition of the ability, all while also timing the speech that he would give to the people.

He turned back to the people, and took out a knife, stabbing the head of the creature for proof.

"The creature is now dead. It is alright to come out. God; the Primordial Unity declares it so."

After that, he continued walking to the five people he had seen being killed by the creature since he arrived. He turned to a woman who was coming out of her house while instructing her children to remain inside.

"Are these all who died?"

However, she did not respond and instantly broke down in tears as she knelt next to what was previously her husband, yet now lay there as nothing but blood and bones.

An elderly man came out next from another house and nodded at Max.

"Yes, we lost 5 people from what I saw. Unless the monster killed more on the way here. We still have not heard from the hunting party that had gone to hunt down this very monster as it had been attacking carriages that came to our village."

"I see. Then we must hold a funeral before searching for the hunting party." Max stated as a matter of fact.

"God, witness me, as I send these unfortunate souls to your divine kingdom. May they rest in peace, oh Primordial Unity."

Max said while tracing the slightly complicated unity symbol on his chest where his heart normally was.

After that, he turned back to the elderly man who was slightly stunned at the words coming from the young man.

"Which direction had the hunting part gone in?"

"T- That way."

"Alright. I am Max, by the way. The Head Priest of the church of the Primordial Unity."

After saying that, Max went back to the corpse of the beast and used his knife to break off the horn from its head, using a bit of density manipulation to make the knife heavy enough to break it clean off in one single strike.

"For proof of slaying the beast," Max said as he put the horn into the backpack he had been carrying and began walking away from the village once more, in the direction of the hunting party.
