1 Are We Ghosts Or Turning Into Something Else

The wind rushed dizzingly around my head as a slow smile spread across my face. The perfect Friday night. I looked up at the darkening red sky. Red like blood that flowed in the worst of us and Red for the cancer that kills us all so easily. The intoxicating smell of the drink in my hand caused me to shift my gaze to the wine glass. I knew by the smell it was a blend of wine and blood. Maybe something else. A drink filled with suicide. A feeble attempt at it might I add, but it might just work. I lifted the cup to my lips as it stained them red. Everything red... Confidently walking I approached the very edge of the building and stood upon the ledge.

*I dare you to jump,* the voice in my head spoke.

"Then by all means, Won't you push me for the last time?" I said it both to myself and the new guest behind me. *Let's jump...scream away the pain.*

Smiling I turned to the vampire behind me. "Lovely drink but I have to decline you the privilege of continuing our game." He shook his head. Had he not been sent to finish the attempt by his master I would have admired the way he looked. So Calm and Cool. Bright yet dark.

"Your no fucking fun It seems. But don't worry I'll make it fun." The moment the words left my mouth the wind hurtled me to my death as I took the final step. "Guess we're done then" He said, as I gazed at his lips with my only good eye. "Guess so " I chuckled darkly.

Time seemed to slow down while I fell. However I never did hit the ground. Despite my desperate want to keep free falling and perhaps even die like my inner voice suggested a snap filled the air. Feathers drifted around me as my wings snapped open and caught me on the breeze. A Bright red fading to a darker red.

*Only so long before they kick us out Beezlebub. Are you sure we should be getting so close to this point?* What's so fun about heaven anyway? My inner voice was a separate entity that appeared once I started slowly disobeying the law of the angels. We'd often communicate as the voices goal was to not let me stray.

"For someone who wants me to not break the rules you too wish to disappear"

*I'd like to inform you that was yourself.*

"Hard to imagine that's true considering it gets so confusing up here." I tap the side of my head as the voice laughed.

Beating my wings hard I flew up higher away from the city and it's bright lights as I exhaled a sigh.

"I wonder what makes us different from devil's. We kill too don't we?"

*Of course you'd think that. We fight for the people and protect all species.*

"Except for hell spawns." I interjected.

*They chose there fate and you know it.* I tuned out the voice knowing it was useless to argue as I flew to my home.

The woodsy smell of pine trees and the floral scent of flowers reached my nose as I weaved in between the forest trees. As I continued onward a clearing greeted me.

A small one, but a clearing nonetheless. My tiny little cabin stood in the very middle. Small yes, but home. I landed on the ground tucking my wings in tightly behind me as I walked up to the front door. As my hand touched the door I paused. A shiver ran up my spine as the smell of cigarettes filled the air causing me to slowly look behind me and see....nothing absolutely nothing.

Closing my eyes I thought of the seal Gabriel had me memorize. I felt the sting of the seal engraving my blind left eye. Opening my eyes the world took on a grayish appearance. The spirit plane. While my right eye saw the real world only my blind could see the spirit plane.

"Asiel I call upon thee for a Interrogation summoned by the Archangels." A lie of course but a empty soul such as that of the nearest spirit wouldn't care for they only wanted a chance to prove there worth to finally be taken to rest in the Heavens or there Counterpart, Hell.

Within seconds a bluish fog stood before me with no distinct shape. He was the nearest spirit and he didn't seem like a happy one judging by the color pulsing off him.

"I demand you show me the past events of the last ten minutes." My voice rang with power and with a slight sway of the spirit the vision of the past events were shown to me. Pieces of the past flashed through my mind's eye and a contemplative looked crossed my face. In the past it appears whoever passed by knew of my abilities and wore a cloaking spell.

I would never have knew if he were to walk by. The only tell he was here was the drop of a cigarette and I can promise that it was intentional because you don't just make a mistake like that.

No, for him to do this means he knows what he's doing and wants a direct confrontation.

"Thank you Asiel," Speaking with true gratitude the spirit hummed in satisfaction. "I here by absolve you of your sins and grant you passage to the afterlife for whatever it may hold for you." The spirit slowly dissolved and in my mind a single sentence remained. Thank you.

I smiled to myself as the spirit was finally gone no longer wandering for eternity.

The pain of the seal lasting to long caused me to return to the world of where pain existed. Blood dripped from my eye as I also absolved the seal. Pain shot through my spine causing me to double over, out of breath as I trembled holding back my cries of pain.

*Why did you absolve a sinner, only the council is allowed to do this.* Catching my breath I stood upright again and opened my wings to relieve the burning pressure on them. "The council does a horrible job. We shouldn't leave them to suffer like this" *you will fall at this rate. I will have to report this you know.* "it's worth it..." I mumble.

Walking into my house a mirror greets me. My wings once a red turned a shade darker for my sins of absolving another's.

"I find sin quite an attractive color" I say to myself with a smile that doesn't quite reach my eyes as I quickly frown.

*Beezlebub?* The voice's tone hinted at worried for me, and I quickly smiled again

"It's nothing, Come on, let's go get us a rat."

*You mean aside from me?* The voice said with a tinkling laugh.

"Yes, definitely like you." I said with a genuine smile this time, Happy for the subject change.

I stared a little longer at the mirror. My hair stayed a vibrant red on one side and a dulll shade of black on the left side with streaks of white scattered about randomly. I had made it my goal to be different from the other angels who all looked alike when I was sent to earth.

However my natural hair color appeared at random. My eyes looked bloodshot from staying awake so many days, but hey, that's why coffee exists. I let out a happy sigh.

*What were you just thinking about, because your eye is shining red again.*

"How delicious Coffee is-" I answered honestly as I realized my eye really was glowing red.

Turning away from the mirror I shuffled over to my bed.

Digging my hand under my pillow I pulled out a gun. However It wasn't real by any means. In the demon world whatever you think can become a reality. My job down here being to hunt demons and various other supernatural types I fought using there own methods. What's a toy gun to me would be a real gun to them if they believed it was one.

So where did that vampire from earlier come into play? The vampire I had been enjoying a romantic drink with -Yes it was romantic to me- was sent by a pal of mine.

The Vampire Lord of Ireland.

See I may or may not have killed his girlfriend but I swear it was a accident! Who was I to deny the women a challenge if that's what she asked. Besides don't taunt what you can't beat.

*Stop pouting at your inner thoughts we all know you threw a fit after being called short stuff.*

"Hmph, she was the short one."

*She was 5'5 and you were still shorter.*

"5'3 isn't short Grr"

*Your not a werewolf, don't growl at me.* The voice let out a exasperated sigh.

Do anyway, Yes okay I did kill his girlfriend per her insisting a challenge. Vampire lord threw a tantrum and demanded all of Ireland off me.

You would think with so many vampires after me I'd be dead already. But I'm too awesome for that. *Narcissistic angel.*

Okay okay I'll get straight to the point, the vampire earlier wasn't sent to off me like the others. He was sent to drive me to the werewolves and avian shifters since they offered a deal the vampires couldn't refuse. However, I have no idea what that deal was, hence why I'm still here and trying to figure it out.
