Chapter 8: Fire

The buzzer has sounded, and the start of the first round of our game escort.
We end up being the assassin team thanks to Kana.
Aeris, who's our captain since she's the class president, made a plan to seal off all five routes of this maze. Each route leads towards the exit where the goal is. We were paired in to two for this task, and I was teamed up with Kana again.
We are in charge of guarding the third route which we called Route C.

"Is anyone on your side yet?"
Lokki asked everyone through the intercom.

"No one is here at our side (Ace) either.

"Hey everyone do you all think this is kinda strange?"
I asked everyone.

"How so Linel?" (Ace)

"It's been ten minutes since the game has started and no one has showed up yet." (Me)

"Maybe it's part of their strategy."(Ace)

Wren's scream made me and Kana took the ear piece out of our right ear.
After that, we put the ear piece back.

"So did anyone show up yet?"
I asked everyone.

Gun shots being heard through out the Area.

"Everyone we need your help! The target is here and so as the whole Class 3." (Aeris)

"So that's how it is."
I said to myself
"What do you mean?"
Kana asked me without using the intercom.
Since I suck at explaining I should tell her what to do next.
"You'll see what I mean. Let's head for Route B where Aeris and Maple are."
As I said and started making my way to Route B using the map on my cell phone.
Kana follows.
As we arrive at Route B, Maple and Aeris were desperately trying to push class 3 back.
We join in as well.
Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang*
Class 3 was firing at us with their handguns while we were taking cover on a wall.
I forgot to mention that in this game, we are only allowed to use a handgun.
While they're firing at us, class 3 is slowly moving forward.
Every time we try to shoot their V.I.P which is the cream short hair girl from the occult club who's wearing a helmet with a holographic display on top with words that says kill me, the guy on front of her takes the hit.
After that, they shoot back at us.
Lokki and Mathias who arrived just now from Route A were blocking the other end and tries to shoot their V.I. P.
Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang*
But class 3 use the same strategy.
Zack and Roc who are in charged at Route D arrived to where Lokki and Mathias are and also tries to shoot their V. I. P.
Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang* Bang*
But class 3 uses their strategy again.
After that, they retaliated.
When will Ace and Wren arrive?
"Sorry I'm late."
Ace said who just arrived at our side.
"Where's Wren?"
I asked Ace.
"She'll be arriving at the other end shortly. "
Ace answered me.
Eventually Wren arrives.
The reason why we are having a hard time trying take the V. I. P down, it's because they look like this.

No wonder it took them long to show up. They're using the meat shield strategy.
In the meat shield strategy, your teammates will make a barricade around the V. I. P and act as a shield. It's a defensive strategy often use in online shooting games in a game mode called flag. I was surprised to see them applying it in real life although I thought they will use their numbers to break through. I was somehow right but I didn't they will pull this kind of stunt. A strategy like this requires a lot of teamwork.
"Hey Aeris what should we do?"
Bang* Bang* Bang*
I asked Aeris while shooting back at them.
Since my aim sucks, I almost shot the V. I. P while I was aiming at the guy on front of her.
"We need to break their formation Linel."
Bang* Bang* Bang*
Aeris answered my question and retaliated.
"And how will we do that?"
Bang* Bang* Bang*
I asked her another question while doing the same thing as Aeris was doing.
I was aiming at the V.I. P but somehow I end up shooting the ceiling.
I seriously suck.
"I have an Idea."
Bang* Bang* Bang*
Instead of Aeris answering my question, Kana answers it.
"Idea??"
Bang* Bang* Bang*
I asked while shooting back at them.
This time I tried aiming at the ceiling and maybe I'll lose control and hit someone accidentally.
Guess what happens next?
I hit the ceiling.
That was dumb.
"Go there and hit them with your fists."
Kana answered me while fixing her glasses in place.
"What do you mean by-"
Before I was able to completely react to what Kana suggested, she pushes me forward.
I was pushed forward, everyone from class 3 got startled and shoots me with all their might.

My barrier's life gauge hits 1%.
Bang*
And I'm dead.
(In case you're all wondering, the hand guns their using are loaded with rubber bullets for safety reasons.)

Everyone's morale has boosted and shoots class.

By the way, a repairbot grabs me and brought me back to the entrance.
While I was up in the air, I could see what the whole maze looks like. It was surprising to know that this maze have no dead end, only a bunch of loops if you choose the wrong direction.
The architect who made this must be a genius.
While I'm back in the entrance, I'm watching how everyone's doing through the holoscreens. Uncle Huck is here and he's watching as well.
Because of the distraction that Kana made me do, the members of class 3 are gradually being reduce. The guys who ends up like me were returned back to the entrance through the repairbots.
Class 3 is down to two members which is their V. I. P and Maple's right hand man.
On our side is down to six which is Maple, Roc, Mathias, Aeris, Kana, and Ace.
We clearly have the advantage.
The remaining members from my class points their guns and shoots the two of them.

I guess the meat shield strategy is not effective in real life after all. Or maybe it is since they use me as a distraction in order to break through their defence. No use thinking about it. It's time for round 2 and this time, it's our turn to become the escort team.
