1 Chapter 1 - 誰もが役割を持っている (Mendel)

It all starts with the mind, the mind controls the body, although it doesn't control the soul directly, it affects the way you view the world, so in that way it does. I must have been working on solutions and theories for weeks now, I don't even remember what daylight looks like, and at this point, looking at the light would probably blind me.

I've hidden for so long, I can't let anyone's eyes see past my own windows. If they were to ever find out what I was researching I would surely be silenced before any of my research had surfaced to the public. It has happened to my mother Laurella and her mother before her.

My mother would always say that to break the walls, you'd have to be rid of fear, and my mother stood by her words till the very moment she was assassinated by the government.

They made a move the day before she had planned to release her findings, and along with her death was the vanishing of all her research, now the burden is placed on my shoulders with not even a couple stairs to start me off.

Yet hope has not died, you see, although my mother's research had been taken away, she had left behind a single page, had she fallen to the silencers of the Hanju.

A high order of people that rule over us, they're the government that controls everything we see, hear, and breath.

The page from my mother states.

(The infant mind, a compartment with so much space to be poisoned, either by a soul or by the tampering of another person, The gods themselves perhaps.

In theory, it seems every child born to this world has a tampered mind blocked off to its true potential. It is unknown what this true potential really is, or if all can break free, but I believe to have seen it before with my own eyes, to see a human being's full potential right in front of you, is quite a thrill.

I believe I am one of the world's first to witness the human beings true potential.

A man named Shane Quemid, believed to be over his 30's. He was a hard worker, bearing scars on his hands and arms as well as bruises from heavy lifting.

I recalled hearing strange noises coming from his household, grunts as he was struggling with someone or something. I went to investigate one day out of curiosity as to what had been happening.

He had been taking a strong "hallucinogen" that I believed to be something way different than what it was being marketed as.

Looking through his window, my eyes widened, I was absolutely astounded.

As he drank the suspicious vial he began to hold his head in anguish, screaming his lungs out, his eyes turning bright yellow as he began to break his own floor just by kneeling on it. But although this is the first time I've seen the transformation happening before my very eyes, I have seen it used, from what I was seeing he had no control as if his mind wasn't ready.)

The page was ripped from there on, now I can only wonder what she had written down.

Then suddenly I heard a knock on my door, I covered my own mouth before I could react with an instinctive scream of fear,

it was nothing but a whimper for help in the end as the knock turned into a forceful banging. So much force yet no words had been said,

suddenly the knocking stopped as I heard the screeching footsteps leading towards my window covered by curtains and towels.

I could only navigate by candlelight waiting for the next corridor of my hallway to be unveiled by the radius the gentle flame granted.

I then slowly reached for my left drawer, withdrawing a knife that I hid under a few scraps of paper and a notebook.

CRASH! My window had shattered inward with a sudden slam.

My eyes widened as the glass flew across my arms leaving a trail of blood in the air from the cuts.

I then looked towards the window in fear as I froze in place, who would've known about my research and theories? I never told anyone, I'm sure I was as careful as I could be.

I quickly managed to regain my senses, seeing the man that had come crashing through my window.

He had fiery red hair that looked as if he took hours curling it to perfection, he wore a black suit with streaks of red across the sides of the stomach and sleeves.

He bore a frozen expression of focus as he scanned the darkroom for me.

I slowly moved behind the raggedy desk I used when writing down my theories.

The knife was still clenched in my left hand as I shook in fear, my stomach was hurting and I felt nauseous from the stress.

What if this is where I die?

I quickly got myself ready to fight for my life, gripping my left hand with my right hand stopping the shaking as I prepared myself for the worst.

The mysterious man then threw the desk aside blocking the door to the hallway exposing me and my only way out.

There was no easy way out of this, I nervously lunged towards the man aiming to thrust the blade into his torso wrongfully expecting a direct hit.

I gasped in surprise letting my guard down as he gripped onto my hand before the blade punctured into his skin.

"Almost got me there, although.. a trapped mind can only think 3 steps ahead, you don't have a chance against me kid." he said with a smirk on his face as he twisted my wrist dropping the knife to the floor.

Am I really going to die here?

"What do you want from me!" I yelled as he delivered a blow to my gut, it felt like a swing from a bat, the impact was so powerful I couldn't keep to my feet. "Come on kid.. If you want to live so bad then break the damn wall holding you back. Unless of course, you want to die here?"

He said as I fell to my knees, tightly gripping and pulling my hair with his left hand making me look up at him.

I became silent like the room as I remembered my mother's words

"The walls can only be broken after your body is rid of fear."

I then snapped back to my situation seeing through my eyes once again

"My body is rid of fear" I muttered. "What did you say there little guy I can't hear you." he said in a sharp tone. "I said I'm going to kill you.." I said softly as I stared expressionlessly at the floor beneath me.

I then quickly grabbed onto his left wrist slowly squeezing onto it harder and harder as a build-up of anger poured out from inside me. My mistakes, my mother's death, my life, and my mother's legacy at this moment are all on my shoulders.

"I can't let you take the little hope that remains.. away from me.."

"Think..think." I mumbled to myself as I looked around the room.

I then aimed for his left leg as I swung my elbow slamming it into his knee then rolling backwards, successfully evading him as he attempted to soccer kick me to the head.

"That was close, killing him is gonna be difficult." I said to myself looking back up to his face as I stood back onto my feet.

His eyes... They burned a bright red as steam emitted from him. "Is that.. What happens when you break past the walls." I wondered as he sprung towards me inching his fist closer to my face whilst I froze once again. The same from his fist burned my eyes, blinding me from countering.

He nailed me right on the center of my forehead sending me flying though my own walls into the outdoors.

when I opened my eyes, I saw my house burst open with the whole I just got blasted out of.

"Nice work kid, you passed, but I couldn't let you kill me that's for sure." he said to me as he stepped out of the huge whole in the wall.

In confusion, I asked, "aren't you going to kill me? And how did that, not kill me?"

"You really haven't noticed, have you? Where do you think you got the power to escape my grip?"

"I.." I muttered as I passed out from exhaustion.

"I'll tell you everything when you wake up, kid." He said as he picked me up, laying me over his shoulder.
