1 Underwater

I finished unpacking the last box and sighed in relief. I checked the time and saw that I still had around four hours before I'd go to sleep, and decided to get acquainted with the neighbourhood.

I walked across the street and into the park, sitting on a cold, hard bench beneath an oak tree. I smiled as I watched the children playing together, having fun and not needing to worry about anything... Almost makes me want to become a kid again.

I asked a man nearby if there were any beaches here and he said that there was one around ten minutes from here and another around two hours from here. I grinned and thanked the man before going back inside my new house.

*20 minutes later*

I stepped onto the beach and explored, looking for a hidden cave or something similar. I soon found one, behind a small waterfall, that you wouldn't have been able to spot unless you were standing right in front of it. I stepped into the cave and raised my hands above my head before diving into the water below.

I squealed in happiness once I felt the familiar feeling of my hair floating as it changed colour. My legs morphed into one as beautiful, shiny scales replaced them, and my long, peach hair trailed behind me as I swam around in glee.

I sighed and continued to stretch my muscles, when suddenly I hit a rock. But when I looked up... it wasn't exactly a rock.

It was a merman.

He gripped my shoulders and stared at me with clouded eyes, making me realize he was reading my thoughts.

"I'm sorry. I didn't realise this was anybody's terrasil, please forgive my intrusion. I just wanted to relax for a little while before I go back to the land walkers. I- I will be leaving now, good day." I tried escaping his clutches so that I could swim to the surface and leave, but it seemed like he had other ideas.

"It's alright, Miss. Just... what is your name?"

I looked at him in confusion and slight suspicion. He... wanted to know my... name?

"Kilazj, sir. May I ask why you wanted to know my name?"

He gasped and released me, his entire body trembling. His eyes told me that he was overwhelmed, relieved and... angry? He looked at me, properly looked at me. From the top of my floating peach curls to my glowing pink eyes and all the way down to my shimmering orange scales.

"K- Kilazj? I- Is it really you?" He murmured in disbelief. Why? I have no clue.

"I'm sorry, sir, but have we met?" I asked, confused of his behaviour.

All of a sudden there appeared thousands and thousands of mer-people surrounding us. I looked back at him with wide eyes while he told me to calm down. Calm down? How could I?!

I began to panic, looking around at everyone in fear. I felt suffocated. I didn't want to do this, but I had no choice. I closed my eyes and curled into a tiny ball; to others, I would've looked like a seashell. I uncurled myself and opened my eyes, listening in delight to the many thumping heartbeats around me.

I heard them gasp and their heartbeats sped up, making me hungry. I knew they were confused: my peach coloured hair was now a cyan blue and straight instead of curled. My pink eyes were replaced with emerald green ones and my tail was now a glazed, royal blue with mint green streaks. I smirked and parted my lips.

I sang beautiful words, lulling them into a false sense of security as they approached me in mesmerization. I grinned as I fed. This was the part of me I kept locked away, the Siren part.

In just a few minutes, they were all dead. All because of me.
