1 The hospital

The steady sound of a machine beeping is the first thing her ears picked up as she slowly began to regain consciousness. The first thing she noticed was the searing pain coming from her head. It felt as if her brain was trying to push its way out of her skull. After much effort, her eyes began to flutter. Blinding white lights shined down on her eyes making it difficult for them to adjust. The next thing she noticed was her body and how stiff it was. Painfully, she moved her fingers around as her mind began to focus.

"Well, good morning" Her eyes shot over to a woman entering the room. Her red hair pulled back into a pony tail and her glasses pushed up the bridge of her nose. She carried a clipboard that she used to write information on. Her eyelids continued to blink the lights causing her head to pound even more.

"Lights" She whispered too low for the nurse to hear. "Lights" She whispered again gaining the woman's attention.

"Sorry, what was that dear?" She asked leaning in closer. She took in a breath before whispering the word again.

"Lights" She said closing her eyes. "It hurts" She added.

"Oh" The nurse said nodding. She walked over dimming them by turning off one switch which turned half of them all. The patient sighed in relief as her eyes were able to adjust. She looked around the room as her mind is able to comprehend where she was. "How are you feeling? Are you nauseous? Are you feeling any pain?" She asked shining a light in her eyes causing the girl to growl in frustration. The nurse lowered the light looking at her confused. The sound being almost identical to an animal.

"Nurse Philips, thank you but I have it from here" The doctor said coming in. "Thank you for checking up on her" He said taking the clipboard.

"You're welcome, Doctor Benjamin" Nurse Philips said giving the patient one last confusing look before walking out of the room.

"How are you feeling today?" The doctor questioned her but all she could do was look at him. He is extremely handsome with short brown hair and light brown eyes. He seemed to be in the mist of growing a beard, it suited him. Every time she took in a breath, this intoxicating smell hit her nose. It helped her relax and her head to slowly stop pounding, she continued to take deep breaths becoming addicted to the smell. "Can you tell me your name?" He asked turning towards her more and away from the machine beside him.

She heard his question but she didn't have an answer. As she thought about it, she couldn't remember. Nothing came to her mind, the only thing she could think about was the smell... and him. It didn't make sense to her but it was all she knew in the moment.

"Where am I?" She asked softly but he managed to understand what she had asked.

"You are about an hour away from Los Angeles in the great state of California. More specifically you are in Diamond Hospital in Naomi Hills. It's a beautiful Wednesday at 73 degrees Fahrenheit. You were found about 4 days ago and have been asleep ever since" He told her and she continued to stare at him soaking up the information. "Now, can you tell me your name so we can let your family know where you are" He said and she continued to look at him for a few more moments.

"I... I don't know" She said and he slowly nodded.

"Can you tell me anything?" He asked and she slowly shook her head. "It's alright, amnesia is normal for people who suffer from even mild concussions. You have a pretty major one along with 2 broken ribs, 3 fractured" He said looking down at his clipboard. "Bruised spine, broken ankle and a lot of open wounds" He said. With each word about her wounds a flashback appeared in her mind. With each flashback she winced and her head turned violently.

She saw two wolves, one she felt as if were herself. With each diagnosis she could feel as if it were happening to her. She could feel the razor sharp claws tearing her skin open. She could feel her body being thrown across the air and landing on the floor harshly, she even saw herself or this wolf, being thrown into a tree. She could feel the serrated edged teeth clapping down into her skin breaking bone and shredding muscle.

"Are you alright?" He asked looking at her concerned but she just laid there in her thoughts. She couldn't stop reliving in the flashbacks that made no sense. "Ma'am?" He asked and she looked at him.

"My head... it hurts" She said and he slowly nodded.

"Alright, I'll be back with some antibiotics and we'll do a full check up, alright?" He asked and she slowly nodded watching him leave. Once he left she noticed the smell that had been helping her head ache began to disappear. She felt a pang of sadness mixed with loneliness with his absents. She took in a deep breath and slowly let it out as she thought about the flashbacks.

The wolf that attacked her was extremely large, pitch black with golden colored eyes. His teeth were long and sharp, an off-color white. She wondered why she felt fury instead of fear when she thought about him. She felt an urge to hunt him down and tear him apart. Strong emotions for a woman who has no memories. Beside, why would she have such strong feelings to kill an animal? Especially one that size when she's just a girl?

She then thought about the other wolf in her flashback. She felt as if she were the wolf but that was impossible. How could anybody turn into a wolf? Unless it was the norm? Not like she new any better. Maybe it was normal for people to turn into these large wolf beasts. Then her mind went to earlier when she involuntarily growled at the nurse. It was her instinct yet the nurse looked at her as if she were some lunatic.

"Alright, this should help with the pain" Doctor Benjamin said coming back into the room. The scent hit her like a ton of bricks. Her eyes closed as she took in a deep breath taking in the lovely scent. The more she smelt it the more she noticed different aspects of the scent. She smelt woods, campfire, eggs and flower along with a hint of vanilla. She may not understand what was going on, but she knew that for some reason, she felt connected to this person. She felt connected to Doctor Benjamin.
