21 Give him a chance

Xavier just stood there, stunned. What just happened?

Aurora slowly pulled back then stared into his eyes intently before smiling.

"Just in case I never get to kiss you" She murmured then took a few steps backwards before letting out a sigh.

"You can leave now, I'm okay" He stared at her for a while then immediately vanished because he didn't know what to say and he didn't know how to react. He hadn't even comprehended what she had said earlier.

As he appeared back in his cave, he immediately sat down on the ground with a frown on his face. He couldn't let her get over him because he was going to use her feelings for him to get himself out of here.

He still wasn't able to comprehend how she was able to summon him. Was it because of his blood she was taking or because of the gem he had placed in her?

He didn't know and honestly, he was too tired to think about it. This had to be the most he had walked in seventeen years and that really drained all his energy away.

He closed his eyes as he rested against the cold hard wall. Aurora's image crossed through his head and a small smile appeared on his lips.

It seems his little talk got to her because his little wolf was getting bolder.

Later that day, Roseline came back to take Aurora home. As they got into the carriage, Roseline noticed how puffy Aurora's eyes were. She grabbed her hand as she stared at Aurora worriedly.

"What happened? Did you cry?" Aurora sighed then turned to her mother. As she thought about him, tears stung her eyes. She didn't know what hurt more, the fact that she was hardly going to see him or the fact that he hadn't even reacted to what she said or her kiss and all she could think about were her lips on his.

"I've decided to get over Xavier" Roseline Froze then her eyes widened.

"You what?" Aurora nodded.

"We are still friends but after everything that has happened, I've decided to let him go and find someone else you and father will be proud of and someone on my level at least" Roseline frowned then sighed as she caressed Aurora's face.

"Doesn't mean you have to settle for less. It's good that you want to get over Xavier but do not settle for less because you deserve the world" Aurora smiled.

"Thanks mama. The other day… Steven told me he liked me and I think I'm going to give him a chance. Maybe he'll be able to get my mind off Xavier" Roseline's eyes brightened.

"That hot Guard?" Aurora giggled.

"Father won't appreciate you calling another man hot" Roseline waved it off.

"He's not here, is he? Oh my love, you don't know how happy this makes me. Do you need me to prepare your date? I can have everything ready and I think you need to get a new gown and…"

"Mother, I didn't say I was going on a date with him. I said I was going to give him a chance" Roseline sighed.

"Sorry, I'm just excited. If you and Steven make babies, they'd be the prettiest" Aurora rolled her eyes then slapped her forehead. She said she was going to give him a chance, not marry him!

When they got to their house, Aurora was surprised to see Steven standing right in front of the house and seemed to have been waiting for her. Roseline squealed beside her then wiggled her eyebrows.

"Goodluck, my love" She murmured before climbing out of the carriage. Aurora watched as Steven bowed his head at her mother before turning back to the carriage. She took a deep breath before climbing down from the carriage.

As soon as he saw her, his eyes widened and he hurriedly walked up to her.

"I heard what happened and I was so worried. Are you okay?" Aurora frowned.

"So everyone knows I tried to kill myself?" Steven scratched the back of his neck and he nodded awkwardly.

"But it doesn't matter because almost everyone sympathizes with you" She scoffed.

"You mean pity me? I do not need their pity" He sighed then grabbed her hand.

"Enough of that. Are you okay?" Her eyes trailed down to their hands together and she could help but frown. The spark she had with Xavier, she didn't have it with Steven.

"I'm okay now, thanks for asking. Would you… would you like to walk me to my room?" His eyes widened at her request but he immediately nodded then led her up to her room.

On their way there, she took a deep breath then turned to Steven.

"Do you still like me?" He nodded then glanced at her.

"I do"

"Why? I'm nothing special and there are many other girls that are better than me here in this pack so why?" He furrowed his eyebrows.

"Don't compare yourself to anyone because in my eyes, you're the most beautiful girl I've ever seen and I chose to like you, not them" Her eyes widened. Her? The most beautiful? When there was Veronica?

"I've never had anyone like me aside from my parents so I don't know what being in a relationship means or what it entails but I'm willing to give you a chance" Steven froze then turned to her with wide eyes.

"Are you… are you being serious?" She nodded with a smile.

"Yes, I want to like you too, Steven" He didn't know why she said it like that but he was over the moon. Without thinking, he wrapped his arm around her and pulled her closer.

"Thank you. I'll make sure to make you happy. I know I'm just a guard but I get paid really well and can afford whatever you want so if you ever need anything, tell me okay?" She couldn't even hear what he was saying because all she could think about was how different Steven's hug felt compared to Xavier's hug.

Xavier made her feel safe and comforted in his arms while Steven's hug felt like a regular hug and his scent, it couldn't measure up to Xavier's.

She groaned inwardly at the thought. If she kept comparing Steven to Xavier, she would never be able to get over Xavier that way. She needed to stop comparing them but how could she when Xavier was the standard?...
