12: Doomed In Between

Picking my speed up, I drove as fast as I could until I managed to arrive safely at the said meeting place.

I pulled the handle break and didn’t mind if the rear stand kissed the floor or not when I saw them hogging Gwen, pushing her to one another and yanking her hair. I heard a loud thud on my back. That’s my motorbike fell for sure.

I marched my way to the bastard’s way, they kept on whacking the back of her head.

Her eyes were puffy, her nose and cheeks were red.

“Assholes!” I yelled, rage filling my system.

The male closer to Gwen whipped his head at me, receiving a punch in the face before he could even register that it came from me. It made him fall. From one, the attacks were successively thrown to me after that punch. There’s one guy who almost kicked me and tripped me over. Luckily, I grabbed his foot instinctively before returning the kick he had no chance to give.

I throw kicks and punches as they do the same. Most of them are facing the floor, groaning and hissing in pain.

“Do it!”

I halted on my plan to stomp the stomach of the guy slouched on his side.

“Do it and you’ll see your friend’s body lying lifelessly on the ground! You won’t have the necklace that you wanted!” he threatened.

He lifted the necklace in the air, gripping Gwen’s hair as she cried. “See this?”

My eyes widened. ‘That’s Key’s heirloom from her grandmother!’

‘What a great actress she is, isn't she?. I’m proud of her. You shouldn’t come to save her, now you’re in danger because of her!’ A voice in my head that I tried to ignore angrily yelled at me.

My eyes bounced from Gwen to the necklace dangling in the air. ‘What should I do?’

I gasp in surprise when someone holds me hostage. I tried to wiggle free but to no avail. I’m not thinking straight as of the moment and my adrenaline is now crashing down.

The exhaustion and body pain began crawling. Internal and external. It mixes up, making my brain hardly process what to do next.

“What are you waiting for?! Go beat her!” The guy demanded.

I gulped in terror. My jaw tightens, the breathing pattern isn’t even, and my lips tightly shut, forming into one thin line.

‘I’m doomed. Shit!’

Part of my brain was giving me a warning signal that I had to run or else the grim reaper would greet me with a devilish smirk plastered on its face. But Gwen and Key’s necklace bugs the other half of it. I need to get them both.

I was about to kick the guy who insisted on doing the first move but halted when I heard a skin slapping skin.

“She’ll suffer if you fight back.” He pulled Gwen closer to his body. This time, his hand was wrapped around her neck.

Jeez! I have to let them take revenge on me.

I take the pain. Punches and kicks rained on me. My lips cracked and I felt the inside of my cheeks bleed, leaving a nasty metallic taste on my tongue and it stung. Blood slowly cascaded from my forehead to my cheek. This never happened to me for how many years after the incident of saving Louie.

The guy who held Gwen captivated stared in awe, eyes twinkling, and mouth agape a tad. He stupidly lost hold of his bait while watching me. Amused.

“Run!” I commanded.

Gwen complied, biting the hand of the guy that was smothering her earlier before running fast.

‘Much better.’

I pulled the guy on my left, who was holding my arm, closer and bumped my head into his, meeting halfway. He ghosted my left arm as he scooped and caressed his forehead. The sight of my surroundings twirled and yet I had to endure it, even the side of my forehead hurts from that head-butt. After regaining a little posture, my left hand takes its flight and crashes onto the face of the man on my right twice. The toe of my shoe hit his stomach after kicking his crotch.

The pain I felt this morning tripled. It becomes excruciating for me to ignore and it’s shutting down my rationality and sanity. My fucking acidity is attacking me even harder as I try to dismiss and avert my attention to some things. I feel like vomiting at any second.

Gravity pulled my body down to the ground, my fingers splayed on the warm floor like a little support to not kiss the dusty ground completely. Leaning on my thigh like it was my last hope, and heel up. Panting heavily, I tried to regain my senses back.

Out of nowhere, I earned a kick from someone. Aimed at my abdominal side, making it difficult for me to breathe. I grabbed enough strength left in me to stand up and place a punch at that guy who managed to lay his foot on my gut while I was out of myself. But, suddenly, I heard a loud noise in my ear. It’s the annoying 'ting' sound getting louder and louder. After that, the clinking of metal harmonized with the loud sound ringing in my ear.

My world started to spin, making me cup my forehead when I feel it become heavy.

‘What did just happen?’

My vision starts to blur. A faint calling of my name got my attention. Turning around, I saw someone running before I felt my body falling. I can’t feel my body and can’t hear anything. The loud ringing was long gone but the noise was still muffled. I saw a figure of a necklace lying next to me and found myself reaching for it.

“Hey! Can you hear me?!” Someone's voice becomes indistinct. Then, everything went black.
