2 CHOICES

[Forest]

I silently followed that deer, but thanks to a small branch on which I stepped, the deer heard me and began to run away. I really wanted that meat, so I had no choice but to sprint behind it.

The deer dashed through the trees, damn, it's fast as hell. I cursed under my breath, pushing my legs to their limits to keep up with it. Branches whipped at my face and arms as I dashed through the underbrush, "Hufff... Hufff..." I can feel my heart pounding like hell. I had to keep my eyes around for danger and chase this nimble deer, which was all turning out very stressful.

Moving through the treeline, the land gets a bit open, and that's where the problem arises. Just as I slowly moved behind the bush to take a good look, the undead motherfucker crawled out of the ground and grabbed my feet. I took out my knife and sliced its arm open, then I jammed it into its head, killing it.

"Damnnn... That was close," I muttered under my breath. Luckily, this freak was just a boney and decomposed fucker with zero strength. I slowly peeked out of the bush. And there was an entire herd of deer grazing around. There were six of them. Nice. More meat for us. If I take two of them, we won't have a food problem and if we store them correctly, it'll last a long time.

I took out my rifle and aimed at one of them.

Damn it! My eyes are burning. Something must have fallen into them when I was running through those trees... My eyes went toward my right ankle where that zombie caught me. And I fucked up! A small bone is stuck to my ankle and the leg guard seems to have fallen somewhere when I was running. Shit! I'm dead. I'll turn into a zombie in three hours.

Don't panic and think practical. I'll die either way, panic or not, so, let's use these last three hours to take two kills and bring them home. It would take one hour or so to carry them back home. Haaa... Leaving my mom and sis on their own and dying a virgin... Seesh, some life, damn it.

I took the shots. Two bullets, two kills.

Seeing their dead mates, the remaining deers ran away. I quickly rushed there and took out my rope. Time is precious. I must finish my task in haste.

I wrapped the rope around their antlers and was about to drag them when something appeared before my eyes. A weird ass transparent blue screen. I rubbed my eyes. I must be seeing things. The virus must be spreading fast. Or...

Kill Hawkeye? How? Where? And what's this System? Is it one of those thing you see in novels? It must be or how the fuck should I describe my situation. Should I take this chance and try to survive? Or, should I take these two deers to my family?

I don't know where Hawkeye is or in what condition he is in. If he is a regular zombie, it would be an easy kill, but in the worst-case scenario, if he is an intelligent zombie or a mutated one, then... It is impossible for me to win.

What the fuck should I choose?

Should I just leave my fate in the hands of luck and give it a try? But if I die here then... No, family comes first. I grabbed the rope and was about to pull those two deers back, but an arrow flew out of nowhere and severed the rope. Whoa... It almost scraped my hand.

I raised my head and looked at the origin of the arrow, only to find a male in a dark green outfit standing a few meters away from my location. And he isn't a human alright. That guy's right side is completely melted and I can see his skeleton. A low growl escaped his mouth as he slowly took out another arrow from his quiver and slotted it to the bow, aiming it at me.

I... Am... So... Screwed.

I left the deers and dashed behind a tree.

.

.

Well, that's how it all started. Now, how do I kill that motherfucker who's standing between my life and death? Any suggestions, Brain? Yeah, shut the fuck up, my mind is swarming with unwanted thoughts at this moment.

"No point worrying about useless things anymore," I tightly grabbed my rifle, and as soon as I peeked out to shoot, another arrow swooped over my head. Truth be told, I nearly shit my pants, seeing death so close, but I kept a firm grip on my rifle and began to shoot, but that freak was too fast. He rolled on the ground and dashed around through the trees.

He's coming...

I threw the rifle and took out a knife and my handgun. He's coming from the right. I can't waste my bullets. Need to shoot precisely at his face and head...

"HAAAARRRUUUU!" With a low, bloodcurdling shout, Hawkeye dashed at me like a beast. Seeing him like that, the faint courage I was mustering up was shooed off, all thanks to the pure, animalistic madness.

I froze for a moment.

"Argggg!" A hard punch on my face threw me away. I crashed into a thick tree. It was so fast and fucking hurts like a bitch. I could feel the blood dripping down from my head and mouth.

I somehow stood up.

Zooop! Zooop! Two arrows zoomed through the air and stuck my both thighs, pinning me to the tree.

Zooop! Another arrow pierced through my left shoulder. I dropped the knife as the piercing pain swept through my body. My vision was getting blurry, but I could hear the low growling coming from the Hawkeye.

Rustle... "Grrr... Grrrrr!"

I rubbed my right arm over my eyes, trying to clear up my vision.

Hawkeye was glaring at me with menacing eyes.

This bastard!

He took out the final arrow from his quiver and smiled savagely.

"HHAHHAAHAAARRGGHHH... HARUUURR..."

I was already dead. All I could do was observe as death crept near.

No! I'm still holding on to my gun. If you think I'll die just like this without even putting up the minimum effort to survive, let me prove you how wrong you are.

"Well, son of a bitch, I'm dying, but I'll drag you to hell with me, Zombie Hawkeye. Hahahaha..." I said in my slurry voice.

It's now or never!

I aimed at his face.

Zooop! Bang!

AN: I know it's short. But try to go easy on me. It isn't easy to come back to writing after years of break. Let me get a bit used to it.
