60 Afterparty

The night that was supposed to be full of cheers and champagne turned into fear and horror with nothing but a screeching blade as a warning.

As Duke Greyfold surveyed the hall below him with his remaining right eye.

His noble walls which were made from expensive concrete were now full of cracks.

The floor below him that was encrusted with diamonds and gold now had a pit from the hails of spells from his mages.

The food that was made with rare ingredients hunted by their knights and prepared by their finest chefs was now rotting on the ground.

It was a mess.

But if you look carefully there was no anger in his eyes.

As he turned his head.

He could see her daughter, Cassandra, with her vibrant scarlet hair that took hours to prepare now ruffled and beautiful makeup now ruined with dirt and tears.

But even with them, her innate beauty did not change.

A sigh of relief came out of Duke Greyfold's mouth.

Her daughter was safe.

He knew that if she died not a diamond or gold in this green-blue world could ever replace her.

Duke Greyfold then touched his heart.

His mind then thought back to the part that started this horrible ordeal.

That screeching sound of a blade.

"If...if that other assassin did not warn him,"

"It would've pierced my heart,"

That thought lingered on his mind for a few minutes.

Then questions started to replace the relief he felt in his mind.

Two assassins.

The Traceless Terror and The Unseen Threat.

One cloaked in grey and one shrouded in black.

When the Unseen Threat warned him prior before.

He thought the other assassin was just like the other ones he encountered before.

He found it quite stupid for that assassin in black to warn him.

His family trained him for such occasions after all to read people.

From body language alone he knew to raise his guard.

So he planned to hire a team to try to find and catch him for daring to touch his daughter with such hands.

But...

The assassin that was cloaked in grey.

No amount of training could have prepared him for her.

For he never thought there was an assassin in this world that could turn invisible.

His hands started shaking.

Twice he could've died.

Twice he was saved.

With words and actions, the man who called himself the Unseen Threat.

Saved him and her daughter.

Who was he?

He didn't even ask him for gold or glory?

Duke Greyfold was confused and scared.

Because there was no such person in his mind that he could think of that would be able to hire such a person as the assassin shrouded in black.

But for the one who is in grey.

He had his suspicions.

He had many enemies.

After composing himself he soon gazed to the nobles below.

Seeing how much they were trembling he knew that he had to send them home.

The coldfeathers reputation will definitely take a hit seeing how many nobles he endangered.

But since nobody died they would also tell others how powerful those assassins that infiltrated were.

One that was able to turn invisible and one that couldn't be sensed.

It was a feat that the Coldfeather were able to protect them.

The Threat and The Terror.

He soon ordered a handful of his knights to guard the entrance and make people who were leaving sign a check that would tell them that they left the hall.

Seeing how the terror escaped through the window above breaking the glass in the process.

He knew the person who did not sign it would be the Tracless terror although he knew that she could've just infiltrated by being invisible and not needing to be checked by the guards in front.

It was still a start.

He then opened his mouth and bowed once again to the nobles below.

But no one criticized him as all of them were still shaken and understandably scared down below.

He then ordered them to go home and sign a check at the entrance for their compensation.

Some of his knights then went to the nobles who were too scared to even move and the ones and assisted them.

One by one the nobles who were still able to move started leaving and the ones who couldn't were sent to the medical room.

"Father...."

The trembling voice of his daughter struck a cord in his heart.

Cassandra then hugged her father with both of her hands

Duke Greyhold then started to caress her head he could feel his suit start to become wet.

"It's over now, Cassandra," He was trying his best to comfort his crying daughter.

"We will find whoever that damn terror is and we will make sure she feels the wrath of the coldfeathers,"

"Bu- But what about the other one, Father?"

"Wasn't he trying to save us?"

"I-"

Duke Greyfold couldn't speak.

He was the one who saved him and her daughter but he was extremely confused.

He knew what to do when an assassin who aimed for his life failed.

Investigate and find who the most suspicious prior to the event, and interrogate them.

Right now,

His mind turned to the Craw family,

They weren't enemies but they were the ones that his gut was telling him to investigate first.

While he was comforting her weeping daughter, he remembered the nobles below.

Not a single one came from their family.

He understood earlier that to be late to the celebration, something must've happened.

Traffic, issues to their vehicles something like that.

But for them to not come at all?

They were the most suspicious.

But then his mind turned to the one that wore a metal mask and a voice as deep as the ocean.

He had no idea what to do.

The assassin who did not seek his life scared him more than the one who did.
