Popular Vote (LAST PART)

PART FIVE

It was silent as everybody was waiting for our homeroom teacher to tell us about the popular vote.

"You all look at me as I know who won the votes." It was true; the environment in class felt very heavy. Everybody wanted to know who won. —"The winners of the votes are written in this envelope," she explained while holding two envelopes.

She wasted no time and opened the first envelope, which had a red color.

"The most popular girl in school is…"— she waited a couple of seconds before continuing, "Sakai Rumi! Congratulations on winning the popular vote twice in a row now."

Everybody besides me and some others started clapping for Sakai-san.

"Thank you all for voting for me. It's an absolute pleasure!" The devil spoke.

After all that clapping, the teacher opened the second envelope, this time a blue one.

"Let's see who won the boy's vote, not that someone in this class will win," Misaki-sensei said with a laugh.

She read it through in her mind first, and I could see the change in her expression clearly. Almost as if she didn't believe it.

"N-Nage-kun…" she said, bewildered.

Everybody started looking at me. Even my classmates didn't expect me to win, but the most surprised one was the girl next to me, Sakai Rumi, also the most popular person in school.

"I can't believe it, Nage-kun! You've won. You're now the most popular boy in school!" My teacher said with total excitement, "To think that the two most popular students in the whole school would be in the same class. It had never happened before!" She continued.

Everybody besides Sakai-san started clapping. I stood up from my chair and said, "Thank you." That's all I said before sitting down again.

It was silent in class at that moment. They didn't expect my response to be that short. The teacher broke the silence and told Sakai-san and me to go to the director's office to talk to the director.

As we walked in the hallway, she kept her distance behind me, and I could hear some groaning.

It didn't bother me.

I arrived first in front of the door from the director's office and knocked to let him know someone had come.

"Come in." I heard and entered. Sakai-san followed.

Inside it was bright from the sunlight through the windows. Only the director was inside, sitting behind his laptop on his chair.

"Ahh…— the famous students came. Congratulations!" He said with a smile.

He waved his hand to both of us to come and take a seat in front of his desk.

"Now that you two are famous students, I will tell you the benefits, both the 'known' and 'hidden' privileges."

He then told us the following privileges;

KNOWN

- Access to the student council room

- Change your own or someone else's seat in the class (once a month)

- If you fail a test, you can try again up to 3 times.

- Eat for free at the cafeteria (you can only order for yourself)

- Ceremony Bell

- Get the school's phone app. (which contains all the information of the students enrolled in the Academy)

HIDDEN

- If you happen to fail a grade, this will turn into passed by the minimum score.

- Access to the rooftop

- If you happen to be late for school, you won't get in trouble (don't overdo it)

- Have a Safe Paper; if someone is expelled (including you), you can turn that Safe Paper in to keep the individual in school

- One school wish

I already knew about the 'known' privileges. But the 'hidden' privileges were quite interesting.

First of all, the ability to always pass a grade is sublime. I asked the reason behind that, "Omura-sensei, about thé grades, why is that acceptable?"

He looked at me with a smile and said, "We can't have the most popular students failing a grade, can we?"

So it's about the school image; if the popular kids have bad grades, that will look bad for the school, so to raise it to a minimum score to pass it is bright.

The second interesting benefit of the 'hidden' list is that 'Safe Paper.' It's a total cheat; if someone is expelled, including me, I can rule that out.

The director then began asking us about our school wish, "You two can choose one wish that is possible within school limits. Think carefully about it as you only get one wish. The other popular individual will have access to that wish as well."

This one is interesting as well. You can choose whatever you want if it's within the school's power. But the wish I desire means that Sakai-san will have too as an extra.

"I want to have a whole day with the person of my liking," Sakai-san said.

I was surprised to hear her wish and didn't expect her to talk at that moment as she had been quiet the whole time in front of the director.

"Sure, you can choose any student you want to have a whole day with. If you have a specific date in mind, you can tell me. It doesn't have to be now. Just tell me when you want to use your wish. This also means that Nage-kun has this option as well."

That wish could come in handy at a later point.

"And Nage-kun wish is?" Omura-sensei said while looking at me.

I don't know what I want to wish for, this is very exclusive, so I have to think about it.

"Do I need to say my wish now, or can I implement it at a different time?" I asked.

"Of course, no need to rush. When the time comes, you can tell me your desire, and I will make sure to make it happen, mind you, that Sakai-san will have access to the same wish as yours." He replied.

After telling us that we couldn't let anyone know about the 'hidden' privileges, he sent us back to our classroom.

In the hallway back to our class, I could feel something different about Sakai-san. And the only thing I could think of that made her like this was that she didn't expect me to be chosen as the popular boy. It made her upset.

PART SIX

I, Sakai Rumi, knew that I would be chosen as the most popular girl. Who wouldn't vote for me? I'm perfect.

But when I heard that Nage-kun was the other popular student, it made me mad.

I can't stand the guy. He makes me crazy when I'm in school. My eyes can't keep off of him. And when he catches me looking at him, It makes me blush instantly.

But my plan to make him suffer didn't change. I already knew about the 'hidden' privileges.

My wish to spend a day with a student was chosen carefully. I will spend the day with Nage-kun to make him fall in love with me and then crush his little heart with my own hands!

Just wait, Nage Gazo.

Will these privileges help them secure their deepest desires?
