1 The Itsy Bitsy Spider Went Up To Kill The Ant

"Damn it! Why am I an ant?" Roran said.

A mysterious existence had came to him in his home before, and warned him of what was coming: "You will be transported into another world, completely different from the one you know. Every hour, you will shapeshift into another form. It could be a T-rex, or plankton. If you manage to survive for a year, you will be free and you will return to world. However, you will retain the form you were last in."

Roran didn't have high expectations, but at least like a lizard. As long it isn't too weak Roran felt like he would be fine.

However, he had stayed as an ant, "At least it will only last for an hour."

Roran supposed that he could survive that long. He was in a safe location, in the middle of a very small crevice in a rock. However, to the minuscule Roran, it might as well be a huge spacious cave.

"Well, first priority is food. I can suck plant sap, and also eat fruits and stuff. Basically I'm an omnivore. A good idea is to get fruits, because I don't know what I will turn into next."

Roran peeked his head out of the crevice, "Seems like there is nothing around," He muttered to himself.

Then he search for a suitable plant to fill up his stomach. After he is full, he will go and find fruits.

A very good plant stood just a meter away. Its stem was thick, and judging from the lush green leaves, it was definitely very nutritious and would contain a lot of sap.

Roran's mouth watered. And then he shook his head ferociously, "I'm already thinking like an ant. I have to remember that I was human."

He instantly rushed to the plant, despite his thoughts. He dug his mandibles inside and slurped hungrily.

A minute later, he was already full, and so he went back to his cave.

Fifty minutes later, Roran was drowsy, his eyelids felling as if they weighed a thousand pounds. However, he didn't allow himself rest.

"I can't go to sleep yet... I'm too weak."

Suddenly, Roran heard something shuffle on one of the leaves nearby. Roran instantly went alert, prepared to run if necessary. The it showed itself. A spider had appeared, almost thrice the size of Roran.

An alarm seemed to ring in Roran's head. He sprinted as fast as he could, trying to get out of his cave, which had just turned into a death trap.

The spider never expected its prey to run that fast. It stood, stunned momentarily. Then, it reacted and then chased after Roran.

The split second had already given Roran a huge advantage though. He was twenty centimeters ahead. The spider, however, was already closing the gap. It was much faster than Roran.

Soon, the spider was only three centimeters away. Roran could already see the ominous dark red hue of its compound eyes. He had to find cover.

There was none nearby. The only thing that was anywhere near tall was the rock where Roran's cave presided.

"I'll have to climb it. I just have to last until the hour ends, and I shapeshift into something else, hopefully much bigger than the spider."

Roran dashed up the rock with incredible speed. When he was a human, he never took notice of how smooth rocks are. However, as an ant, every single imperfection was magnified thousand of times. The surface now seemed immeasurably rough, with plenty of handholds and footholds.

The spider followed. Its eight legs gave it a disadvantage. It has to make sure that all of them are safely on the rock, or else it might lose its balance and fall.

A clock chime ran clearly through Roran's head. His field of vision was getting bigger! He could feel that he was getting taller! It was finally his time to shine!

The spider had begun to back away. It probably decided that it was not such a good idea to go after Roran after all.

Roran looked at himself. He was a hamster. Not very big, nor a predator, but well enough to get him out of this situation.

He chased after the spider, and then with a sickening crunch, the spider was a bloody pile of exoskeleton and meat.

"The hunter has become the prey."
