1.HISTORY OF HARIPUR Haripur was founded in 1822.  Haripur means "Town of Hari". Haripur was derived by the name of "Hari Singh Nalwa". He was the Sikh General of Ranjit Singh Army. He was the Governor of Kashmir in 1822 to 1823. Haripur was built as a fortress surrounded by a wall which was 3.7 m thick and 15 m high and had only four opening gates. The population in 1901 was 5,578.

4. ADMINISTRATION  Haripur District was tehsil of Abbottabad District in 1992.  Haripur District is divided into three Tehsils which are sub-divided into a total of 44 Union Councils.  In the north and west of Haripur are Pashtun areas.

5. GEOGRAPHY  Haripur District is situated at latitude 33° 44' to 34° 22' and longitude 72° 35' to 73° 15'.  It is 610m above the sea level.
