Chapter XV

Xavier paced the floor as he glanced worriedly at Ellean. It's been almost a week since she fell asleep and still hasn't woken up. The Doctor wasn't worried about giving her an IV and dropping small amounts of his blood into her mouth. Instead, he said that since Ellean was given Xavier's blood, it meant that she was healing some of her many injuries. But Xavier wasn't sure; he still worried something was wrong with Ellean.

Running a hand through his dark hair, Xavier paced some more. He needed to finish his work, but he couldn't be that long away from Ellean. Not hearing her voice in his head was driving Xavier nuts.

Reaching out to Ellean via mind link, Xavier still couldn't feel her. Instead, it felt blank, and that made things even worse for him.

Finally, sitting down beside Ellean, Xavier picked up her tiny hand, closing his eyes. He needed to sleep, but the worry of Ellean not waking up kept running around in Xavier's mind.

Hearing a gentle knock on the door, Xavier lifted his head and answered.

"Come in"

As the door opened, the Queen's head popped in, her eyes worried.

"You need to sleep, son; you haven't gotten a decent sleep since she fell asleep. I will watch over her, and you take a shower. If anything happens, I will tell you right away."

Xavier hesitated for a moment, looking down at Ellean then at his Mother before nodding.

"I'll go take a shower and come right back."

The Queen nodded before sitting in Xavier's place, holding Ellean's hand. She was worried about them both, she had no idea when Ellean would wake up, but she hoped it would be soon because her son was barely hanging on.

Taking a quick shower, Xavier came back into the room, his gaze landing on Ellean. Seeing that she hadn't moved, Xavier sighs in disappointment. Dressing in sweat pants, he crawls into bed beside Ellean after seeing the Queen out. Drawing Ellean into his arms, Xavier places her face into his neck, his nose digging into her silky hair. Ellean's scent wrapped around Xavier as he drifted off to sleep.

Xavier finds himself standing in a meadow, looking around puzzled; he starts to walk. He had never been here before that he can remember.

When a black shadow leaps in front of Xavier, he stops and looks in wonder. A giant black wolf with the brightest blue eyes he had ever seen standing in front of him. Xavier blinks before looking again to make sure he doesn't imagine it all.

A quiet laugh fills the air as the wolf plops down on his foot. Xavier looks down in puzzlement. Shouldn't wolves be snarly and shy? This one certainly wasn't.

"You might be asking yourself who I am? Well, I am Ellean's wolf."

Xavier blinks in surprise. "But I thought she didn't have one?"

The wolf shrugs her shoulders. "She does, but she can't call me out just yet. And even if Ellean shifted, there is no guarantee that I would be able to walk."

Xavier gently shoves the giant wolf off his foot before sitting beside her running a finger over her ear, causing it to flick at him.

"So why am I here? Is there something I can do for you both?"

The wolf shakes her head. "Unfortunately, Ellean has to fight this battle on her own. She has to figure out what she wants. How to fight through her fear and become the person she's supposed to become."

Xavier nods understandingly. "Does she ever reach out to you?"

The wolf snorts, "She hasn't even given me a name; how would she know I'm here? I haven't been able to link to her since her birthday."

Xavier leans against the wolf, running his fingers lightly over her head. "I would give you a name, but I think Ellean deserves that honor. I would never take that away from her."

The wolf nods, satisfied. "You are a good mate. I am glad she met you because she needs all the care and love she can get."

Xavier's lips turn up slightly. "I will do my best to love her till we both grow old. I will protect her with all of my being."

The wolf lays her head on her paws, enjoying the silence with Xavier. They both didn't know how long it would take Ellean to heal and come out of her sleep. There wasn't a magic number or a magic healing. Ellean had to fight her mind to come out on top. It would be a long journey for everyone. But if Ellean did manage to come out on her own, she would own the world by its tail.

Giving the wolf one more stroke on her back, Xavier looks at her, his voice soft.

"You need to send me back so that I can try and bring Ellean out of her coma. I do so hope that she will feel you and start the bonding process."

Xavier blinks his eyes open, seeing he's still with Ellean. That was one weird dream, but he hoped that Ellean would start to wake up with all his heart.
