18 Chapter 18: Adventurer Guild

After entering the Kingdom of Blumund with the help of Chronoa, we headed straight for the adventurer building.

I noticed how the kingdom looked like the most generic fantasy kingdom I could think of, with medieval European buildings and almost everyone going around with weapons and armor.

But their gear isn't as good compared to the ones I saw in Rubelios. So even if they all had weapons, they looked like I could easily defeat a group of them without a problem.

Entering the five stories high stone building, the whole guild became quiet seeing Chronoa, but she ignored it a went to the reception desk.

The receptionist was a young blonde human girl that looked to be in her early twenties. "H-Hello, how may I help you today?" She stuttered out.

"I'm here to get him registered as an adventurer." Chronoa then pointed at me, and I felt all the attention focus on me.

"Is he the hero's pupil?"

"He looks so young. He can't be older than ten."

"He will probably be a Beginner-Rank at best."

People muttered, but I could hear it due to my enhanced senses. I should have brought a mask with me. I'm more used to staying in the shadows and not being in the spotlight, so this is something that makes me slightly uncomfortable, but I was doing my best to look unbothered. Just me being known as the Holy Emperors' student is annoying enough but now this.

"Look at his cute face. I could eat him up." I heard a female voice and instantly started sweating mentally.

I quickly looked to see who said it and instantly regretted it. If I had a face like hers, I would wear a mask. No, a mask wouldn't help that face... She looked more like a toad than a human!

"Yeah, you're right." This time a male voice said... I want to leave this place as quickly as possible... Monsters were much better than this.

"Isn't he a bit too young?" The receptionist asked, this time more composed.

"No." Came the short reply from Chronoa.

"Umm... Okay, then please fill in your name and desired division." She said, giving me a parchment of paper.

Oh, so it's similar to how it will be in the future. I filled them in quickly, choosing the subjugation division, and gave her the paper.

"Subjugation division? Are you sure about that? Maybe the gathering or exploration division would be better for you." She asked in concern, but I shook my head.

"Well, then I will have a summoner-type examiner test you."

---

I stood inside a magic circle with my examiner, who was an elderly woman.

A crowd formed around us after hearing that I was the hero's student. They wanted to see what a kid my age would be capable of, and I felt slightly uncomfortable with even more attention on me.

"This formation will prevent anyone from getting hurt. If you take a step outside the circle, you will have failed the exam." She explained.

"I understand," I replied with a nod, my sword already in my hand.

"Then the exam will begin." She said, and afterward, a magic circle appeared on the ground before a Hunter Hound lunged at me.

Unlike the future Free Guild system that ranks adventurers and monsters from F-Rank to A-Rank, the Mutual-Aid Association System has four ranks:

Novice: Equivalent to the Free Guild's F Rank.

Beginner: Equivalent to the Free Guild's E Rank.

Intermediate: Equivalent to the Free Guild's D Rank.

Advanced: Equivalent of Ranks C-A in the Free Guild System.

It is extremely crude and imprecise compared to the future Free Guild System and results in many preventable deaths due to adventurers underestimating the monsters, especially the Advanced-Ranked monster.

They would often underestimate an A-Rank monster for being weaker after having fought other Advanced-Ranked monsters.

But back to the monster, it was really slow compared to the monster I had faced before, so I sidestepped and, with a quick swing, beheaded the hound.

[50 EXP Gained]

[Magicules increased by 50]

"..." Silence. Nobody said after they saw me, a kid, effortlessly kill the Hunter Hound. An E-Rank or, in this case, Beginner-Rank monster.

While the Hunter Hound is a weak monster, it's still very impressive how a ten-year-old kid dealt with it quickly.

"Uhh.. Very well. Next." She said, and another summonsing circle appeared, but this time it was a Dark Goblin, but it died as quickly as the Hunter Hound.

[100 EXP Gained]

[Magicules increased by 100]

"Can we continue?" I asked the examiner wanting to get this over as quickly as possible.

"Do you really want to take the next exam?" She asked, slightly concerned even after witnessing me effortlessly kill the other monsters.

"Yeah," I told her and got ready.

She looked at Chronoa, who stood outside the circle for confirmation. Chronoa just nodded, so the examiner summoned a Lesser Demon.

The demon looked truly disgusting. It was around four meters tall with a goat-like head and a long and thin tail, as well as the characteristic claws, horns, and wings of a demon.

I took a deep breath after dodging its attack. While that strength of attacks and spell the demon uses shouldn't give more than a scratch, I rather not have everyone here see that.

I coated my blade in magicules, knowing I couldn't defeat a demon with just physical attacks.

{Extra Skill: [Magic Aura] has been acquired}

It started attacking with its tail and claws and even used elemental magic, so I dodged and blocked the demon's attacks until I found the perfect opportunity to strike.

Right after the demon attacked with its sharp claws, I cut off its hand and used the moment it hissed in pain to jump to its head and, with my magical-infused sword, slashed the head off the demon.

[200 EXP Gained]

[Magicules increased by 200]

Everyone was stunned at how easily I passed the exams, and I turned to the examiner before asking, "So, how did I do?"

"Umm..." She then cleared her throat, "You passed."

The examination wasn't that hard compared to what I had been fighting for the past month, and I easily aced it.

---

We left the guild building with my card showing that I was an Advanced-Ranked adventurer.

"So, where do we go next?" I asked Chronoa, who was walking beside me.

She thought for a moment before answering, "There isn't anything special happening at this time, so we will travel so you can explore the different parts of the continent."

"Are you sure it's necessary?" I asked, but she said something that made me excited about it, "I could have stayed in the Jura Forest fighting."

"They will have books you won't find in Ruberios."

I stopped, and my eyes widened, "Then we shouldn't waste time." I said, nodding to myself with my arms crossed.

More books = Good.

She sighed, "He never changes..." She muttered

We continued walking through the city until we arrived at an inn and got two rooms.

After sleeping on the floor again for a whole month, I'm excited to sleep in a bed.

Laying on the bed, I looked at the notifications that stacked up during the day. Having left my shadows, they hunted monsters around the forest.

[1,750EXP Gained]

[Magicules increased by 875]

[Strength of Shadows has increased]

"Hmmm." I hummed, "This is interesting." I said to myself, seeing as I gained less magicules because it was my shadows that killed them and not me but seeing as their strength increased, I can't complain. It's still free EXP in the end.

If that's the case, maybe I should leave more shadows in the forest and maybe some in the Barrem Lands to get stronger and give me more Magicules and EXP.

In the end, the stronger my shadows are, the stronger I am.

Thank you for reading this chapter.

Like I said in the last chapter, I don't know much about the old adventure system, so I just mixed what I know of the old one with the new one.
