[Chapter 232] Halfway There

—————————————————————

I am in shock as I stare at the screen in awe, reading the numbers over and over again. I wipe the sweat off my brow as I read over them again and again, the fight having taken a little out of me. That's when I suddenly hear a voice over my shoulder, "Damn, your on your way very quickly, scratch what I said before about it taking years. I hadn't even considered you declaring a few wars."

I nearly jump from my skin as I roll forward, my grip in my scythe tightening as the tentacle grows from my other arm. But my grip softens as I see a smiling face, red eyes, brown hair, and a tall stature, ever so recognizable.

I sigh as I shake my head, "I just wiped out an army and fought a demi-god, could you please warn me next time Author?"

He giggles stupidly as he nods, "Yes, yes, sorry. But nice job on killing Baphomet's son, but-"

"Wait, how could you read from my system, not even Sky can do that?" I interrupt him as I ask in confusion, causing Sky to suddenly speak up, "Who is this man? Is this The Author?"

'Yes, this is him.' I answer as I wait for the Author to answer. Sky can read through my memories so she has seen this mysterious god from them before, but this is the first time she has seen him in person.

The Author thinks for a moment before answering, "Well, it would be kinda stupid if I couldn't see my own creation, right?"

My eyes go wide as I stare at him in shock, "You're telling me this is your system? How? A weird voice before had given me this, not you. And give this system an update already! It doesn't give me quests half the time it should, lacks reminders, and doesn't even tell me stats!"

He quickly raises up his hands as he nervously smiles, "Please calm down. That voice is my assistant I created to guide souls to a new life, worthy ones anyway. I had to create the basis of the system to give to her to use, coding Magic and programs isn't my forte so give me a little while please."

I stare at him for a few more moments as some things become clearer. I always wondered what the voice that reincarnated me was but I never could figure it out, just making random assumptions and guesses.

The system consisting of technology and magic can resolve my question for how the cobald knew I was using Identify on him. Although that leaves me with another question, "This system, where does it get its mana from, and how come no one has been able to interfere with its magic? I'm in magical worlds after all."

He coughs awkwardly, "Let me try to continue what I was saying before I got interrupted, I don't reveal myself for just no reason after all."

I nod irritably, having some of my important questions ignored, "Fine, what is it?"

He doesn't hesitate as he speaks in a strong tone, "You killed one of Baphomet's favorite sons, and now daddy's pissed. He is going to probably send more of his kids after you so you should prepare yourself. I came down here to tell you about demons and how they work since you will be fighting a plentiful amount in the future."

My irritability disappears as I stare at him, hoping I misheard, "What?"

His smile at the beginning of this conversation is no where to be seen as he sits down on the ground beneath him, "You heard me perfectly, Baphomet is gonna send his kids after you, meaning your forced evolution is probably going to happen this year. I need to prepare knowledge on demons for you so you aren't immediately wiped from this place."

I sit down on the ground hurriedly as he continues, "There are quite a few different types of demons that you need to be made aware of before I leave, so I had prepared a book for you that I have decided to be called the Demon's Doctrine."

"Inside this book is all the demon's you can come across, but I need to point out one major difference about these demons compared to the ones you know."

I nod as I listen closely, my focus entirely on him.

"All these demons are goat related, including succubi, so try not to mistake it for a satyress or else you could be screwed. Mind washing is powerful and it can even be difficult for me to fight against, so I am warning you to be careful."

I nod as I ingrain this knowledge into my brain, even though I thought it was going down a different path. A few moments later, a black book with red stains appears in my lap as The Author stands up, "This son was a regular demon who just so happened to grow incredibly strong, however, the next child could be a completely different species of demon so prepare yourself as best you can, maybe build something that can resist brainwashing or wipe demons from the face of the earth. I must go now as I need to train."

I look up from the book confused, "Why? Aren't you strong enough?"

He shakes his head as he looks up at the sky, "I realized from a fight a little while ago that I need to train more, I have grown soft since I haven't fought for a few thousand years. However, I will come to get you when you reach the strength of a demi-god, my training is not prioritized over my student."

I look at him in shock as I suddenly am hit by a scary thought, if I continue on this path…will I outlive this planet? My family? My friends? Winter?

My deep thoughts are interrupted as a red portal appears between me and The Author, "Bye Kurayami! I will see you later I guess!"

Before I can say a word, he leaps through, the portal closing behind him.
